BTTH : From Humble Beginnings to Dou Di

”You really came prepared, huh? Even got yourself night gear.”

By the edge of the forest atop the cliff, Lin Feng glanced at Xiao Yixian’s outfit under the faint moonlight and chuckled.

Hearing this, Xiao Yixian, clad in tight-fitting black clothes, rolled her eyes at him and snapped, ”No matter how well I prepare, I still ended up at a disadvantage.”

”Heh, with me around, at least I can guarantee your safety. If a weak Dou Zhi Qi girl like you runs into a Magic Beast at night, what would you do then?”

As he spoke, Lin Feng took a step forward and looked down at the pitch-black depths of the mountain.

Then, turning his head with a smile, he said, ”Let’s head down. The sooner we get the stuff, the better.”

”Alright.”

Nodding slightly, Xiao Yixian swiftly retrieved two torches she had prepared beforehand.

Then, taking out a firestarter from her bosom, she lit them up.

”Take this.”

She handed one torch to Lin Feng before pulling out a long rope from her clothes.

Swinging it in front of him, she grinned playfully. ”You’re a big man, you wouldn’t just stand by and watch a weak girl like me take the lead, right?”

Holding the torch, Lin Feng glanced at the smiling Xiao Yixian and shook his head slightly.

In all the novels and dramas he had seen, there were too many cases of protagonists or villains being betrayed by women they liked, leading to their downfall. He wasn’t stupid enough to repeat their mistakes.

Although he did have some thoughts about Xiao Yixian, he wasn’t entirely sure of her attitude toward him yet. Naturally, he wouldn’t trust her with his back.

Shaking his head, Lin Feng said indifferently, ”We’ll go down together. I can’t fully trust a ’weak girl’ who once ambushed me.”

”Hmph! And you call yourself a man? So petty!”

Xiao Yixian pouted upon seeing his reaction.

But since she had indeed ambushed him before, she couldn’t really argue.

”I only have one life; I can’t afford to gamble with it. Besides, risking my life just to impress a beauty? That’s just not my style.”

Ignoring Xiao Yixian’s discontent, Lin Feng spoke casually.

Seeing that she still wanted to retort, he gazed at the moon in the night sky and said, ”Are we going down or not? If we keep delaying, the sun will be up soon.”

”Tch! I’m taking all the good stuff for myself!”

Seeing Lin Feng’s infuriating smirk, Xiao Yixian stomped on a small rock at her feet in frustration. A crisp sound escaped from her clenched silver teeth.

Seeing her puffed-up, angry look, Lin Feng smirked and tied the rope securely around a thick tree.

After giving it a firm tug to ensure it was safe, he opened his arms toward Xiao Yixian and said, ”Come on, I’ll take you down.”

”What do you think you’re doing? I can go down by myself!”

Seeing Lin Feng’s gesture, Xiao Yixian instinctively took a few steps back, her fair face flushing with a mix of embarrassment and anger.

”Alright then, go on by yourself. But just a heads-up—no one knows if there might be some terrifying Magic Beast lurking down there at night. A weak Dou Zhi Qi girl like you should be careful not to get swallowed in one bite.”

Seeing her flustered reaction, Lin Feng couldn’t resist teasing her with a mischievous grin.

”You bastard! All you do is scare a weak girl like me!”

With a crisp shout of anger, a gust of fragrant wind rushed toward Lin Feng.

In the next instant, a soft, delicately scented body crashed into his embrace, making his heart tremble violently.

”If you dare to lay a hand on me, I’ll perish together with you!”

As Xiao Yixian’s threatening voice fell, Lin Feng took a deep breath, suppressing the restless evil fire within him.

He reached out his arm and wrapped it around the most perfect slender waist he had ever seen.

Holding that soft waist tightly, Lin Feng was momentarily dazed.

”Aren’t you leaving yet?”

Just as Lin Feng was savoring the warmth in his embrace, Xiao Yixian’s ashamed and angry voice rang beside his ear.

”Sorry, I was just thinking about something.”

Lin Feng made an awkward excuse before continuing, ”Prepare some poison in your hand.”

”Why?” Xiao Yixian asked in confusion.

Lin Feng smiled mysteriously and said, ”Didn’t I mention it earlier? Who knows if there are magical beasts lurking at the bottom of the cliff at night? My hands will be occupied holding the rope, so I won’t be able to make a move. You should have some powder ready. If anything unexpected happens, you can use it to attack.”

”Alright, that makes sense.”

Hearing this, Xiao Yixian casually reached into her robe, took out a paper packet, and held it in her hand.

Seeing that she was ready, Lin Feng tightened his embrace around the beauty in his arms once more.

Gripping the rope, he leaped lightly, loosening his right hand slightly.

Their bodies began to slide downward into the pitch-black abyss.

Moments later, accompanied by the faint friction sound of Lin Feng’s palm against the rope, they had already descended a significant distance.

Noticing that they were getting closer to the cave entrance, Lin Feng tightened his grip on the rope with his right hand.

Their falling momentum slowed, and they were now suspended in midair along the cliffside.

Exhaling a long breath, Lin Feng looked down at Xiao Yixian, who was now clinging tightly to him in a reverse embrace.

He chuckled softly and glanced around the darkness, asking, ”Can you find the cave entrance?”

Hearing Lin Feng bring up the matter at hand, Xiao Yixian let out a deep breath, easing the tension from their continuous descent. She scanned the surroundings, recalling the distance she had slid down earlier in the day.

In a soft voice, she said, ”If I remember correctly, it should be not far below.”

Hearing this, Lin Feng nodded slightly and reminded her in a low voice, ”Alright, then we’ll slide straight over in one go. Hold on tight.”

Xiao Yixian hesitated slightly at his words.

However, the moment Lin Feng loosened his right hand slightly on the rope, their bodies suddenly began to plummet rapidly.

”Ah!”

Xiao Yixian screamed and instinctively wrapped her arms around Lin Feng’s waist, burying her face in his chest, not daring to move.

As they neared their target, Lin Feng looked down and said, ”Throw the torch over to check the situation.”

”Oh.”

With a slightly pale face, Xiao Yixian nodded and released the torch from her hand.

Immediately, under the force of gravity, the torch plummeted into the darkness below.

Using the faint firelight, Lin Feng managed to catch a vague glimpse of the concealed cave not far beneath them.

However, even as they were about to reach their destination, he did not relax in the slightest. Instead, he remained on high alert, scanning the surroundings.

Because he knew—there might be magical beasts nearby.

Suddenly, Lin Feng felt his entire body tense up, a chill running through his pores. His toes pressed forcefully against the cliffside, kicking off with all his strength.

”Ah~”

With Xiao Yixian’s startled scream, Lin Feng’s body shot toward the opposite direction of the cliff.

”Hiss—”

With the lingering glow of the dying torch, Lin Feng caught sight of a brown shadow swiftly flashing past them.

Seeing the ambushing magical beast finally reveal itself, Lin Feng let out a slight breath and calmly said, ”A Cliff Snake, huh?”
