Sacrificed To The Triplet Alpha Kings

Lilith woke in the small staff room to pale morning light filtering through a narrow window. Her neck was stiff from sleeping in the chair beside her mother’s bed, and her back ached in that particular way that came from emotional exhaustion settling into her bones. She lay there for a moment, staring at the ceiling, gathering the strength to move.

The room was sparse, a narrow bed, a small table, a chair. Hospital practical. She’d slept here the night before, though sleep was a generous word for the restless drifting she’d done between checking on her mother and worrying about things she couldn’t control.

She dressed and made her way back to her mother’s room before the hospital staff had fully begun their rounds.

Her mother lay exactly as she had the night before....still, silent, breathing in that slow, measured way that suggested peace even though Lilith knew the reality was far more complicated. She settled into the chair beside the bed and took her mother’s hand, holding it between both of hers.

”Good morning, Mama,” she whispered.

The machines beeped their steady rhythm, indifferent to the greeting.

Lilith spent the morning talking, she talked about small, ordinary things, filling the silence with her voice because the silence felt unbearable otherwise. Because some part of her still believed, still needed to believe, that her mother could hear even a fraction of it.

”Sera is kind,” Lilith said around mid-morning. ”She’s young, maybe a year or two older than me, and she’s a warrior. She trains with the other fighters at Blackwood. She’s the first person who actually talked to me like I was a person and not just... something that happened to them.”

She paused, squeezing her mother’s hand gently.

”Agnes is the head of the omegas. She reminds me a little of Dora, actually. The same efficiency, the same quiet way of taking care of people without making a fuss about it. She brought me flowers for my room. Fresh ones every few days. I don’t think anyone’s ever done that before.”

Doctor Hensley appeared around midday to check the monitors

”Your mother’s vitals are stable,” Hensley said, making notes on her chart. ”Better than stable, actually. Her brain activity has been steady all night. No spikes, no concerning fluctuations.”

”Is that good?” Lilith asked.

”It’s very good,” Hensley said. ”It suggests her body is healing at its own pace. The crisis event was severe, but it didn’t cause lasting damage. She’s fighting, Miss Thorne. Somewhere in there, your mother is fighting her way back.”

After the doctor left, Lilith felt something shift inside her. Hope and fear tangled together, but the hope was winning ground.

She spent the afternoon telling her mother things she hadn’t quite let herself admit out loud before.

”The brothers are different than I expected,” she said, her voice quiet in the hospital room. ”When I went back to the Blackwood pack with them, they were... intense. Possessive. I was terrified of them, Mama. I thought they were going to hurt me the way they hurt me before.”

She paused, remembering that breakdown in Lucian’s room, the way she’d shattered into pieces that no one had been sure would come back together.

She adjusted her mother’s blanket carefully, smoothing it across her chest.

”Sebastian is softer than he looks. I think he might be the gentlest of the three, actually.

Lilith found herself smiling slightly, remembering the way Sebastian had held her face when he told her they would take care of her mother.

”Lucian is... complicated. He’s feral, Mama. There’s something wild in him that he’s constantly trying to contain. But when he looks at me, there’s something underneath the wildness that’s almost tender. Like he’s fighting with himself to be gentle with me.”

She squeezed her mother’s hand.

”And Nicholas...” She paused, trying to articulate something she didn’t fully understand herself. ”Nicholas is controlled. Everything about him is measured and deliberate.”

The light outside her mother’s window shifted as afternoon became early evening. Lilith told her mother about the library, about finding that book on wolf-witch alliances, about the way Sebastian had kissed her in that quiet space surrounded by thousands of books. She didn’t describe the intensity of it in detail, some things felt too private even to share with her mother’s unconscious form, but she admitted it.

”I’m beginning to trust them, Mama,” she said finally, the words coming out small and uncertain. ”I know that sounds insane. I know I have every reason not to. But something inside me is starting to believe that maybe they’re not the monsters I thought they were. That maybe they’re just men dealing with something I don’t fully understand yet, trying to figure out how to be with someone they didn’t expect to find.”

She stayed with her mother until the evening staff began their rounds, until visiting hours were officially closing. The nurse who came in was kind, offering her a gentle reminder that she should get proper rest.

Lilith pressed a soft kiss to her mother’s forehead before leaving, a ritual she’d performed every evening since her mother had fallen into the coma.

”I’ll be back in the morning, Mama,” she whispered. ”I’ll tell you more.”

Day two began the same way, Lilith waking in the small staff room, She made use of the rest room attached to the room and then made her way back to her mother’s room and settled into the familiar chair.

The morning was quiet. Lilith talked about smaller things, about how the food at Blackwood was better than Shadowmere’s, about the way the castle-like structure of the estate made her feel like she was living in a story sometimes, about how strange it felt to have her own room, her own space, after months in the omega quarters.

”I have a window that overlooks the gardens,” she told her mother. ”In the mornings, I can see the training grounds from there too. Warriors practicing with swords, running drills. It’s organized chaos, all of it moving in a way that suggests purpose and discipline.”
