Sacrificed To The Triplet Alpha Kings

The library was exactly as Lilith remembered it...vast, towering, filled with the kind of silence that felt sacred. Late afternoon light filtered through the tall windows, painting the shelves in shades of gold and amber. She’d come here almost by accident, wandering the corridors of the estate while Sera was occupied with warrior training, simply following a pull toward quiet and solitude and the comfort of books.

No one was here. The library felt abandoned in the way only libraries could be, full of presence despite being empty of people.

Lilith moved deeper into the stacks, trailing her fingers along the spines of leather-bound volumes, reading titles in languages she didn’t understand, selecting books almost at random and setting them on the small table near the window where the light was best. She found herself drawn to the same section as before, the one containing volumes on pack history, wolf-witch alliances, the old magics that had once been commonplace in their world.

The book on wolf-witch alliances was there, exactly where she’d left it weeks ago. She pulled it down carefully and settled into the comfortable chair by the window, tucking her feet up beneath her, losing herself in the detailed accounts of ancient partnerships between shifters and witches, of bonds that had created incredible power when they worked, and catastrophic destruction when they failed.

She was so absorbed in the text that she didn’t hear him arrive.

”You read quickly.”

Lilith looked up with a start to find Sebastian standing at the edge of the reading alcove, his dark eyes fixed on her with an intensity that made her breath catch. He was wearing his everyday clothes...dark trousers, a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, but there was something in his posture, in the way he carried himself, that screamed tension. His jaw was tight. His hands were clenched at his sides.

”I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude on your space,” Lilith said, moving to close the book, to stand and leave.

”Don’t,” Sebastian said, and the command was gentle but absolute. ”Stay.”

He moved further into the alcove, and Lilith realized how small the space suddenly felt. It wasn’t a large room...just a corner of the library sectioned off by tall shelves, with the comfortable chair and a small table, a perfect place for one person to read in solitude. Two people made it feel intimate. Cramped. Charged with something she couldn’t quite name.

”What are you reading?” he asked, moving to lean against the nearest bookshelf. His posture was casual, but his eyes weren’t. His eyes were tracking her like she was the only thing in the world that mattered.

”Wolf-witch alliances,” she said carefully. ”There’s a Chapter about historical bonds that actually worked, where the partnership created something stronger than either party alone.”

Sebastian’s expression shifted slightly. ”Do you believe in that? That kind of partnership?”

”I don’t know,” Lilith said honestly. ”The book suggests that it requires complete trust. That the witch and the wolf have to be vulnerable with each other in ways that should theoretically be impossible, given how dangerous both sides can be.”

”Read it to me Lilith,” Sebastian said suddenly.

It wasn’t a request. It was a command wrapped in softness, the kind of thing that sounded like asking but wasn’t.

Lilith hesitated for only a moment before opening the book to the Chapter in question and beginning to read aloud. Her voice sounded strange in the quiet of the library, formal and careful as she narrated the ancient accounts of partnerships forged in desperation and sealed in blood.

Sebastian listened without moving, his dark eyes never leaving her face. But as she read, she became increasingly aware of something changing in the air between them. The tension that had been simmering when he arrived was escalating, building, becoming something tangible and dangerous.

She read about a witch who’d bonded with an alpha to save her dying pack. She read about the vulnerability required, the complete surrender of self that the partnership demanded. She read about how the alpha’s feral nature had been calmed by the witch’s magic, how they’d become stronger together than apart.

And with every word, Sebastian was moving closer.

She didn’t notice it happening at first, just a small shift in his weight, bringing him fractionally nearer. But then her eyes left the page and found him standing beside her chair now, so close she could feel the heat radiating from his body, could smell the scent of him...spice and something darker, something that made her feel drawn to him in ways she could not explain.

”Sebastian,” she said quietly, setting the book down.

”Keep reading,” he said, and his voice had changed. It was rougher now, strained, like he was fighting to keep control of something. ”Please.”

But before she could lift the book again, his hand moved. He reached for it slowly, giving her time to pull away if she wanted to, and took it from her hands. Their fingers brushed in the exchange, and she felt something jolt through her at the contact, a spark of electricity, a sudden awareness of how close they were, how alone they were, how the library suddenly felt very small.

He set the book aside and straightened, looking down at her from where she sat in the chair. His dark eyes were burning now, the careful control that usually defined him visibly fraying.

”How are you?” he asked, and the question was so simple, so at odds with the intensity in his expression, that it took her a moment to register it.

”I’m... fine,” she said carefully. ”The room is beautiful. The estate is beautiful. Everyone has been kind.”

”Good,” he said, and his voice was tight. ”That’s good.”

He moved then, one smooth motion that brought him down to her level, crouching before her chair so that his face was close to hers. His hands came to rest on the arms of the chair, caging her without touching, giving her space but making it clear there was nowhere to go.
