Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 564: Absorb The Souls

[Master, these people probably died a horrible death, so they turned into vengeful souls. Since they have become like this, you donʼt need to think about saving them, and itʼs better if you absorb them all at once to increase your soul power.]

Zhang Fei naturally wanted to increase his soul power, but he was curious about why they were trapped there until they transformed into vengeful souls. ʼMei, how much beast essence do I have now? Is there a technique to purify souls in the beast abilities shop?ʼ

[You have two and a half million beast essences, Master. There are three soul-purifying abilities, but you can only buy low-grade ones now, and the price is one million beast essences. You need five million and ten million beast essences to purchase the intermediate and advanced grades of purifying abilities. Although soul light purification is only at a low level, it should be capable of purifying these souls, and it can also be used to remove impurities from other peopleʼs souls.]

ʼBuy it then.ʼ

[All right.]

{You learned the Soul Light Purification Ability.}

{1,000,000 beast essences have been deducted from your balance.}

ʼWhat... what are those creatures?ʼ Yun Xinyue stammered as she peered at the vengeful souls that had already materialized.

Xian Xianqin was equally shocked by their appearance. ʼAre they human souls?ʼ

ʼI donʼt know how they got trapped here and turned into vengeful souls, but Iʼm sure they are the souls of the owners of the skeletons in this place.ʼ As both women focused their attention on those souls, Zhang Fei suddenly enveloped them with his light element, bolstered by his light law.

In that instant, those vengeful souls scattered around as they were terrified of Zhang Feiʼs light element, and none of them dared to approach them.

ʼDonʼt leave my light element, or they will attack both of you.ʼ Xian Xianqin and Yun Xinyue immediately held Zhang Fei back by hugging him tightly. ʼItʼs okay. They wonʼt dare attack me, so you two donʼt need to worry about me.ʼ

ʼWhat exactly are you going to do with them?ʼ

ʼI want to find out the reason behind their situation before making my next move against them, and I have to purify one of them to find out the answer.ʼ Zhang Fei immediately moved their hands from his body and searched for the weakest vengeful soul. After he found it, he immediately teleported in front of it, leaving Yun Xinyue stunned by his instant movement.

Meanwhile, Xian Xianqin had already seen Zhang Fei teleport when he fought Huan Ya, so she was no longer surprised by it.

Zhang Fei showed up in front of a vengeful soul, but it vanished as he was about to capture it, forcing him to switch targets. However, his next target also disappeared, along with the others, which annoyed him.

The vengeful souls were eager to attack Zhang Fei, but the three light shields circling his body prevented them from attacking him. He then released more of his light qi and pointed his right palm upwards, and a bright white light shot out from it, which immediately spread out and formed a formation, illuminating the place.

The vengeful souls scattered away from Zhang Fei after they saw that, and the two women stood dumbfounded in their spots as their eyes focused on the light formation.

[Do you intend to kill them, master? Wouldnʼt that be a big loss for you?]

ʼHey! Naturally, I wonʼt kill them, and I just want to scare them.ʼ Zhang Fei immediately activated the exorcismus ability, and countless rays of light rained down on the area below him, brightening the whole area.

Zhang Fei could clearly see the vengeful souls, and he immediately moved towards one of them before grabbing its neck, causing it to struggle free. However, he immediately activated the soul light purification ability, causing the evil aura to disappear and gradually transform into its former self, a middle-aged man with a cut on his right eye.

Zhang Fei immediately brought the middle-aged manʼs soul to the two womenʼs side. ”Who exactly are you all? How did you guys get trapped here and turn into vengeful souls?”

”Young master, I donʼt know how you managed to cleanse my soul, but I hope you kill me now. All of us have lost track of how long weʼve been trapped in this place, and we eventually died here; even our souls continue to wander here.” Zhang Fei and the two women frowned upon hearing that. ”Honestly, we are evil people in our realm, and we have committed many heinous crimes there, so the people from the Immortal Soul Palace locked us up in this place.”

”The Immortal Soul Palace?” Xian Xianqin and Yun Xinyue were confused after hearing that name, especially since they had never heard of that sect in the middle realms.

Zhang Fei immediately asked. ”Is that sect located in the upper realms?”

”No.” The middle-aged manʼs soul shook his head. ”Our realm is in the-”

*Swoosh*

Before the middle-aged manʼs soul could answer Zhang Feiʼs question, a light pillar suddenly appeared out of nowhere and obliterated his soul, causing him and the two women to frown.

Unlike Xian Xianqin and Yun Xinyue, Zhang Fei could immediately guess the location of the Immortal Soul Palace, especially since Feng Yao had told him that there was another realm beyond the upper realms.

Zhang Fei then looked up with a serious face. ʼSo that little girl and her master came from that realm, huh? What is their purpose in sending the Star Tower to the Nine Stars Realm? Are they just trying to test us, or do they have another goal?ʼ

”Zhang Fei! What are you going to do with the other vengeful souls?” Xian Xianqin asked.

Yun Xinyue also spoke to him. ”Apparently, we have to get rid of them to open the stone, or else we canʼt go elsewhere.”

”Yeah.” Zhang Fei nodded slightly as he continued watching above with a serious gaze. ʼSince you guys donʼt want us to know information about your background, I will use other means to obtain that information.ʼ

Zhang Fei then floated to the center of the room and locked all those vengeful souls with his aura, leaving the two women wondering about his plans for them. After his senses locked onto them all, he immediately teleported in front of each of them, and he swiftly used the demon-absorbing ability to suck them into his body.

”Zhang Fei! Stop it! Donʼt absorb them! Their evil nature will affect you!” Yun Xinyue, who was still unaware of his demon identity, immediately yelled at him as soon as he did that to those vengeful souls.

”Donʼt stop him, Xinyue.” Yun Xinyue turned to Xian Xianqin with a frown. ”I know youʼre worried about him, but heʼll be fine because he still has another identity.”

”Another identity?”

Xian Xianqin nodded to her. ”Iʼve known about it for a long time, but I couldnʼt tell you because I promised him. You can ask him yourself if you want to know about it.”

Yun Xinyue said nothing and looked at Zhang Fei, who was still busy absorbing the remaining vengeful souls. She was worried that they would influence him, but she could see that nothing had changed in him, so she could feel relieved.

Sometime later, Zhang Fei had finished absorbing all the vengeful souls in that place, and a notification immediately appeared in his mind.

[The host soul level has increased to the perfection stage of the soul core level.]

”Phew.” Zhang Fei let out a sigh of relief before checking his soul, and he smiled in satisfaction at the breakthrough in his soul power. He then landed in front of the two women and dispelled the light element that enveloped them, but Yun Xinyue immediately groped around his body and looked at him seriously. ”Do you realize that your behavior resembles that of a wife?”

”Huh?” Momentarily stunned, Yun Xinyue blushed and withdrew her hands. ”Do you really not feel any change after absorbing so many vengeful souls?”

”No.” Zhang Fei shook his head at her. ”Instead, my soul power broke through one minor stage after I absorbed them, and I might be able to break through to the next major stage faster.”

”Phew.” Yun Xinyue expressed her relief by patting her chest. ”Iʼm really afraid that their evil nature will influence you, and you will become evil like them.”

Zhang Fei smiled at that. ”Why are you so worried? Are you in love with me?”

Upon hearing that, Xian Xianqin immediately massaged her forehead and sighed helplessly at Zhang Feiʼs playboy attitude. ʼThis guy is a womanizer! Our relationship is still in the early stages, but he is already trying to seduce Xinyue before my eyes.ʼ

”No!” Yun Xinyue denied it by shaking her head, but the blush on her cheeks made Zhang Fei certain of his guess. ”You were my savior after you saved me from Bai Shouyiʼs poison, so I donʼt want anything bad to happen to you.”

”Youʼve seen that I havenʼt changed, so you donʼt need to worry anymore, right?” Zhang Fei then pointed toward the exit. ”The exit is open now, so we should go to the next area.”

”Letʼs go.” Yun Xinyue immediately ran towards the exit as she pondered in her heart. ʼUgh! Why does my heart race when he asks that? Am I truly in love with him?ʼ

”Are you interested in XInyuye?” Zhang Fei turned to Xian Xianqin, neither confirming nor denying her question, which caused her to sigh. ”Letʼs follow her, or sheʼll be in danger.”

”Yeah.” Zhang Fei immediately took Xian Xianqinʼs hand and led her out of the place to catch up with Yun Xinyue, after which the three of them rushed into the next room.

Not long after they left, the old man and Hua Meiʼer appeared in the room, and their expressions looked strange seeing the empty room. ”Master, I know that he has a demon form, but his ability to absorb those vengeful souls is truly terrifying. Despite having fought numerous demons myself, I have never witnessed such a technique before, and he wasnʼt unaffected by them.”

The old man nodded in agreement with her. ”I donʼt know where he got that technique from, but it is probably a sub-technique of an ancient demon technique. Those vengeful souls might not affect him, but he should refrain from continuously using that technique to boost his soul power. If he continues to use it, he will sooner or later fall into the heretic path, and he might become the most terrifying demon.”

”The most terrifying demon? Do you think he can surpass those ancient demons?” Hua Meiʼer doubtfully asked.

The old man shook his head. ”I canʼt say for sure, but itʼs possible.”

Hua Meiʼer then turned to her master. ”Are you sure this wonʼt be a problem, Master? This route is the most dangerous among the routes in this maze, and our leaders have vehemently warned all the tower watchers not to open this route. They even threatened to punish those who violated it severely, but you insisted on opening it to test that annoying kid. Moreover, the usual challenges are already difficult for people in this realm to overcome, and most of them have failed repeatedly, but you have actually increased the difficulty. Anyway, their next destination would be even more difficult, and the two women by his side would probably go crazy.”

”You donʼt need to think about the punishment, and I will bear it myself if they find out about this. If those people are unable to reach the tenth floor, then they are not worthy of joining us, and I will relocate the tower to another realm.” The old man then grabbed Hua Meiʼerʼs shoulder. ”Letʼs go back.”

Upon reaching the next room, Zhang Fei and the two women immediately frowned, realizing there was no way out. They saw a statue of a woman in the middle of the room, so they immediately approached it and examined it. ”Do you think this woman is part of the Immortal Soul Palace?”

”Maybe.” Zhang Fei then felt the statue to find a way out of the room, but he found nothing on the statue of the woman. ”Letʼs check these walls.”

They immediately divided the task of inspecting the three walls in the room, carefully checking each side separately. After they searched for some time, Xian Xianqin suddenly found a strange part on the wall, and she immediately pushed it in.

*Click*

*Rumble... Rumble...*

They immediately turned to the statue of a woman in the center of the room, and it quickly shifted back, exposing a spiral staircase leading down to the lower area.

”Letʼs go.” Zhang Fei immediately ran towards the stairs, and the two women right away followed behind him. However, the room was much darker, so he enveloped their bodies in his light elements to illuminate their path.

”Brr.” Yun Xinyue shivered as the cold wind passed through them from below, and it gave her a terrible feeling. ”Guys, I feel like our next destination will be worse than the previous two rooms, and we might meet even more terrifying creatures.”

Xian Xianqin shook her head in response. ”Xinyue, we are cultivators, so you must brave yourself to face this kind of situation. Otherwise, you will never be able to be independent, and your family must protect you for the rest of your life.”

”Iʼm not afraid of facing other cultivators or beasts, but creatures like those vengeful souls are really scary.” Yun Xinyue protested as she pouted her lips.

Zhang Fei laughed at Yun Xinyueʼs antics. ”All right, you donʼt have to lecture him, Princess Xianqin. Even though we are cultivators, we have some fear in our hearts about something; even I have my own fears.”

”What are you afraid of?” Both women asked in curious manners.

”I wonʼt tell you two about that.” Both women looked annoyed by Zhang Feiʼs answer.

Yun Xinyue then asked him. ”Xianqin said that you have another identity. Can you tell me about it?”

”You better not know about it, or you will be afraid of me, especially since my last identity is scary to some people.” Zhang Feiʼs response caused Yun Xinyue to frown and turn towards the Xian princess, but Xian Xianqin shook her head, refusing to divulge the information.

After they had walked down for quite some time, they suddenly saw a faint light from below, so they immediately increased their vigilance. Cautiously, they walked towards the lower area, but once they arrived, they became confused. The room ahead was filled with furniture, leading them to conclude that it was a womanʼs room due to the red and pink decoration.

Moreover, they had never seen such furniture before, including Zhang Fei, who came from the modern Earth. Without hesitation, Yun Xinyue entered the room and laid down on the bed, causing both him and Xian Xianqin to let out helpless sighs.

As soon as the three of them entered the room, the entrance immediately disappeared by itself, causing Yun Xinyue to panic. The Yun princess immediately jumped down from the bed and moved towards the entrance, but there was only a wall in front of her. ”Tch! I knew we would be trapped like this again!”

Although she was also panicking about their situation, Xian Xianqin was much calmer because Zhang Fei was by her side, and she was confident that he would be able to lead them out of the room. ”What kind of test do you think we will face now?”

”I donʼt know.” Zhang Fei then proceeded towards the dressing table, carefully examining all the furniture. ”If my guess is correct, this room belongs to the woman in the previous statue. However, I am unable to sense her presence here, leading me to believe that she or someone else has purposefully locked us here. Anyway, you guys can rest to recover your stamina if you want, and I will look after you two.”

Since she couldnʼt find a way out of the room, Yun Xinyue immediately lay down on the bed again and closed her eyes. Meanwhile, Xian Xianqin immediately sat down beside Zhang Fei, who was already sitting in front of the dressing table, and rested her head on his shoulder. ”Do you know anything about the Immortal Soul Palace?”
