Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Mrs. Scott said no more, but the look in her eyes had changed.

Her freshly manicured nails dug into her palm. ’This Yara Scott... she really does have designs on my son.’

Mrs. Scott did nothing all afternoon, just sat on the sofa until evening, when a call came from the Walker family.

”Have you made a decision? What’s the solution?”

Yara Scott was right there, wanting to hear what Mrs. Scott’s solution would be.

’That Nina Scott really got off easy, just finding someone to marry and leaving this whole mess behind.’

Mrs. Scott said, ”My dear in-law, I’ve given it a lot of thought. I think you have a point. We’re destined to be family. Before, it was just that our Yara is so obedient and well-behaved that I couldn’t bear to part with her. But now that I’ve thought about it, she has to leave me and get married eventually. The Walker family is so wonderful, why don’t we take this opportunity and have her marry into your family?”

Mrs. Walker was also pleased. ”Of course, that’s wonderful! Then it’s settled.”

’After all, she saw how filial Yara was, how good she was to her parents. She was such a sweet-talker, and her words were always so pleasant to hear. If she married into the family, she would definitely be better than that Nina Scott.’

’If Nina Scott were to come, it would definitely be chaos.’

”Good. Then the wedding will proceed as planned,” Mrs. Scott agreed.

Beside her, the color drained from Yara Scott’s face. ”Mom! You’re going to marry me off to that Cameron Walker?”

Mrs. Scott hung up the phone. ”What’s wrong with marrying you off to him? Weren’t you the one who introduced him to Nina in the first place? I think Cameron Walker is quite a catch. You’ll surely live a life of luxury if you marry him.”

Yara Scott’s face was pale. ”I won’t marry him! Mom, we agreed! I would never marry and would stay by your side to take care of you for the rest of my life.”

”I don’t need you to take care of me. You’re getting older, and the Walker family is a genuinely good match. When you go over, be a good stepmother.”

Mrs. Scott had made up her mind; nothing would change it.

”Mom, you didn’t agree to this before. Why are you suddenly making me marry him? Why? You have to give me a reason! Did Nina Scott say something to you?” Yara Scott was sure Nina must have been sowing discord.

”She didn’t say anything. This matter is settled. It’s not up for discussion!”

”I won’t marry him! This was Nina Scott’s problem to begin with. Why should I have to clean up her mess? How many selfish things has she done over the years, and you forgive her every single time! I’ve been so good to you, but what about you? The moment something happens, you just push me out. Can you live with your conscience?”

Mrs. Scott never expected the ever-obedient Yara Scott to say such things. ”How has the Scott family treated you poorly? Have we ever denied you food or clothing all these years? I’ve always treated you like my own biological daughter.”

’Even better than my own daughter.’

”You treated me like your own daughter? You clearly just wanted someone to coddle you! If I didn’t whisper sweet nothings in your ear every day, would you have ever been nice to me? In your eyes, I’m nothing at all, am I?”

Mrs. Scott’s eyes filled with disappointment. She believed she had never treated Yara Scott poorly in any way, but it seemed that wasn’t how Yara saw it.

Yara Scott continued, ”I know I’ve been living under your roof all these years, so I’ve been trying my best to please you. But you’ve never once shown me a pleasant expression, never once treated me like family. To be honest, I’ve had enough! You’re an ill-tempered old hag who curses at people at the drop of a hat, and now you want to marry me off? Absolutely not!”

”You...” Mrs. Scott finally saw Yara Scott’s true colors. She never imagined this was what Yara truly thought.

”So all this time, your respect for us... it was all an act?”

”What else? You have no idea how hard it was for me to pretend, how miserable my life has been! You and Nina Scott are exactly the same—both self-centered, both disgustingly detestable!”

”I’m disgustingly detestable? What about you? You’re in love with your own brother. You’re completely shameless!”

Yara Scott froze for a moment. She hadn’t expected Mrs. Scott to know about that.

’Since she knows, fine. There’s no reason to pretend anymore.’

”So what if I love him? I’m not your biological daughter. Is it wrong for me to love him?” Yara Scott retorted.

”You... You...”

”There’s nothing wrong with me and him being together. You have no right to stop us. As long as my brother loves me and is willing to marry me, that’s enough. That Cameron Walker is... the way he is. I will absolutely not marry him. If you force me, I’ll go marry my brother!”

Mrs. Scott clutched her heart. ”You... You’re trying to kill me with anger!”

”You’re the one forcing me to do this!” Yara Scott spun around and left.

Mrs. Scott gasped for breath. ”Pain... It hurts... Someone, help! Someone!”

...

When Nina Scott heard what had happened at the Scott residence, she immediately went to find Ivy Sherwood to share the news.

”I don’t know which great samaritan told that old hag that Yara Scott is in love with my brother, but she got so angry she ended up in the hospital.” Nina Scott felt utterly delighted. ’The Scotts brought all of this on themselves.’

Ivy Sherwood could just picture it. ”But who told your mother that Yara is in love with your brother?”

Nina Scott shook her head. ”That’s not clear. I heard it was a woman who called. And not many people seem to know about it, right? At first, I thought it was you.”

Yara Scott had always hidden it well. Only she and Ivy Sherwood knew; outsiders shouldn’t have been aware.

”Ivy, who do you think it could be?” ’And who else would get involved in this matter?’

”How could it be me? But now that you ask, I really don’t know who... Wait!”

Something occurred to Ivy Sherwood. She said, ”Last time we were having a meal, didn’t we run into Yara Scott and Cheryl Yates eating together? Do you remember? We seemed to have mentioned this, so Cheryl Yates probably overheard. She even said she wanted to give me a gift to thank me. Don’t you think it might have been Cheryl Yates who made the call?”

”I’m not entirely sure, but it’s not impossible. Anyway, let’s not think about that for now. I’m just happy thinking about the state of the Scott family. Didn’t that old hag think Yara Scott was such a good daughter? Well, let’s just see how her well-raised daughter angers her to death.”

Nina Scott didn’t feel the least bit sorry for Mrs. Scott. After all, she had brought this upon herself.

’Besides, pitiable people have their detestable aspects. This should be a good wake-up call for her.’

Even though Nina Scott thought this way, she still planned to visit the hospital when she had time.

The last few times, Mrs. Scott had only been pretending to be sick, even tricking her into going to the hospital for a blind date. But this time, she was truly ill.

Nina Scott wanted to be cold-blooded, but she just couldn’t bring herself to completely ignore the situation and not ask about it.

Nina Scott looked at Ivy Sherwood. ”What about you? That Mr. Summers... is he really your father?”

Ivy Sherwood said, ”I don’t know. I haven’t had much contact with him.”

But Ivy Sherwood knew that Jason Summers was always around, often following her.
