Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

The Walkers left, but Yara Scott became frightened.

She grabbed Mrs. Scott’s hand, shaking it. ”Mom, don’t marry me off to the Walker Family! There has to be another way, right? This is all Nina Scott’s fault. She’s the one who went and got her marriage certificate, putting our family in this impossible position. I can’t be the one to marry him in her place, Mom.”

Yara Scott’s eyes were red from crying. Seeing her, Mrs. Scott felt a pang of heartache.

”Let me think about this some more.” Mrs. Scott didn’t know how to resolve the situation either.

If they handled this poorly, they would offend the Walker Family.

And if the Walker Family got angry, it would be terrible if they decided to go after Seth Scott.

”Mom, we can’t just let Nina Scott get away with this, can we? She’s completely out of control! She pulled a stunt like this today—who knows what she’ll do tomorrow? She has no respect for you at all, otherwise she never would have done something like this.”

Yara Scott was furious. ’If it weren’t for Nina Scott, how could I have ended up in this mess?’

She was terrified, terrified that the Scott Family would actually marry her off.

The person she liked was Seth Scott. Although she had never shown it, she had always thought she could just maintain their current relationship without them ever getting married.

Disgust filled Mrs. Scott’s eyes. She looked at Mr. Scott. ”This is all your fault for spoiling her! It’s because you never disciplined her when she was young. Look at what she’s become now!”

Mr. Scott said, ”Wasn’t I always at work? Weren’t you the one handling the children’s affairs?”

Mr. Scott was angry too. ”Now we’ve offended the Walker Family. What are we going to do?!”

”What do we do? How should I know what to do? That Nina Scott... The next time I see her, I’m going to kill her!” Mrs. Scott’s eyes were vicious.

...

Outside the hotel, Miles Mercer’s car was still parked. Nina Scott got in first, and a message immediately appeared on her phone.

Nina Scott picked up her phone, assuming it was just a spam text. But then she took a closer look!

’Is... is this a scam text?’

The text message said that fifty million had just been transferred into her account.

’This is way too realistic. How does it even have the right number for bank alerts?’

’And it even knows my previous balance?’

Nina Scott even took a screenshot and sent it to Ivy Sherwood, telling her it was a new type of scam.

When Miles Mercer got in the car, he saw that Nina Scott didn’t look very happy.

He asked, ”What’s wrong?”

’Is she still angry about what happened with the Walker and Scott families?’

Miles Mercer’s timing was perfect. Nina Scott held up her phone in front of him. ”Look at this.”

Miles Mercer looked at the text message. ’That should be the transfer I just ordered. Is there a problem?’

”Scammers these days are just shameless! They’ve got the audacity to try and scam me. Fifty million? What kind of sucker would give me fifty million?”

”Believe it or not, the next step is definitely a phone call telling me I have to return the fifty million. Or they’ll say my account has been frozen and I need to click some link to appeal, that I have to follow their instructions to unfreeze it. Ugh, forget it. You, a foreigner, probably wouldn’t understand this stuff anyway.”

Miles—the scammer, the sucker, the foreigner—Mercer was momentarily at a loss for words. For a second, he felt his native language must be ’speechless’.

”I’m not a foreigner. My parents and my ancestors are all from Calypsos.”

Miles Mercer paused. ”Also, I was the one who had that money transferred.”

Now it was Nina Scott’s turn to freeze. ”Huh? Fifty million? You sent it? Why would you give me money?”

’Are all powerful bigwigs this generous?’

”Your mother just mentioned that I hadn’t given a bride price for marrying you. I wasn’t sure if this amount was too little. If it is, I can have more sent over.”

Nina Scott was speechless for a moment. She said, ”My mom tells you to give a bride price, so you just give one? Did she tell you to give it to her, and you gave it to me instead?”

Miles Mercer said, ”It was always meant for you.”

Nina Scott’s nose suddenly tingled. She had never even thought about getting a bride price from the Mercer Family. Besides, her marriage with Miles Mercer was fake; they were going to divorce in a year.

Wasn’t Miles Mercer afraid she’d just take the money and run? Fifty million was no small sum.

She suddenly reached out and threw her arms around Miles Mercer.

”Thank you.” The two crisp words rang in Miles Mercer’s ears.

Miles Mercer’s body stiffened. The moment Nina Scott hugged him, his heart skipped a beat.

He still hadn’t processed it by the time she let him go.

Nina Scott said, ”I can’t take this money. I’ll transfer it back to you later.”

’It doesn’t belong to me. In this marriage, I’m the one who’s benefiting more anyway.’

”You don’t have to give it back. It’s what should be done. Regardless of whether this marriage is real or fake, you and I are married now, so a bride price is necessary. If you want a wedding, I... I’ll need to make some preparations.”

Although Miles Mercer wasn’t interested in women, that didn’t mean he was the type to cut corners. Whatever others had, she would have too. Nothing less.

”No, no, don’t go to the trouble.” Nina Scott quickly refused. If they had a wedding, wouldn’t everyone find out when they divorced later?

It was better to get married quietly and then get divorced quietly.

”You don’t need to be too moved by this. And more importantly, don’t fall in love with me. In one year, we are destined to get divorced,” Miles Mercer said soberly.

He was reminding Nina Scott not to get emotional over something so small.

Nina Scott: ”...”

’This guy is so narcissistic. Do I look like the kind of person who’d get emotional over something like this?’

Even if she had felt a flicker of something, it was completely gone now.

”Don’t worry, I’m not interested in you, and I’m not moved at all. You, on the other hand... what if you fall in love with me one day?”

”That’s not a possibility.”

”Good!” Nina Scott sat back in her seat, bolt upright. ’I will definitely return this money to Miles Mercer.’

’If Miles Mercer doesn’t want it back, I’ll just wait until the divorce to give it to him. In any case, I won’t touch a cent of it.’

’Fall for Miles Mercer? Impossible in this lifetime!’

...

After seeing the message, Ivy Sherwood asked Nina Scott about the scam, ”Was it the final payment from a client?”

Nina Scott said, ”It was all a misunderstanding. I’ve figured out where it came from.”

’And I made such a fool of myself, calling him a scammer.’

”That’s good. Weren’t you meeting with the Walker Family today? How did it go?”

”It was so satisfying! You should have seen their faces—they were blacker than the bottom of a pot. I don’t think the Walker Family will let the Scott Family off the hook easily, but they brought it on themselves. Who told them to be so unreasonable and try to force me to marry? I even suggested they have Yara Scott marry him instead. From the look of things, the Walkers aren’t picky. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.”

Nina Scott was also waiting to watch the show unfold. Her move had been nothing short of brilliant.

There’s an old saying about lifting a rock only to drop it on your own foot. Yara Scott had been arrogant and smug for so many years, playing the part of the good daughter and badmouthing her behind her back. Wasn’t it about time for it to all backfire on her?
