Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Ivy Sherwood couldn’t worry about anything else. It wasn’t too late yet, and there were still people around outside after she ran out.

Ivy Sherwood gasped for air, her fear finally starting to subside.

’If I go find Miles Mercer now, he’ll definitely get the wrong idea. This is a resort, and it’s not like I have anywhere else to go.’

Ivy Sherwood realized that Quentin Blackwood didn’t seem to have followed her out.

She waited outside for quite a while, but there was no sound from inside. The lights weren’t even on.

She remembered the sound she’d heard just now. ’Did Quentin really fall?’

’Or is this just another one of Quentin’s schemes to trick me?’

Ivy Sherwood waited a little longer. When there was still no movement, she cautiously made her way back.

She hadn’t closed the door when she ran out. Ivy Sherwood fumbled for the light switch by the door, and when she flicked it on, she discovered the man lying on the floor.

All other thoughts vanished. Worry overwhelmed everything else as Ivy Sherwood rushed to Quentin Blackwood’s side. ”Quentin! Quentin!”

If Quentin Blackwood were to open his eyes right now, he would see the unconcealed anxiety on Ivy Sherwood’s face.

”Quentin!” Ivy Sherwood finally grabbed her phone and frantically called the resort’s emergency number.

Soon, the same on-duty doctor from before came rushing over.

He first checked Quentin Blackwood’s condition, then glanced around the messy room.

”Doctor, it’s not what you think,” Ivy Sherwood tried to explain.

The doctor said, ”You young people... I get it.”

Ivy Sherwood: ”...”

’He doesn’t get it at all!’

”Is he okay? Why did he pass out? Is he just drunk?” Ivy Sherwood was still very worried about Quentin Blackwood.

’Their history was their history, but if Quentin Blackwood actually died, she didn’t think she would be happy about it.’

The doctor said, ”Drinking too much is one factor, but from what I can see, his physical condition is very poor.”

”His eyes are bloodshot. He probably hasn’t rested for a very long time. It could also be that he’s been suppressing his emotions, and they’ve reached a breaking point and suddenly erupted. The human body has its limits. If you maintain an irregular schedule without any sleep, you could drop dead at any time. Right now... you could say he’s lucky to be alive.”

”It’s best to let him get some proper rest. We can run another check-up after he wakes up.”

Ivy Sherwood knew Quentin Blackwood had a sleep disorder; he’d often had trouble sleeping in the past.

Later, he claimed he could sleep perfectly well just by holding her, but Ivy Sherwood suspected that was just a load of nonsense he’d made up to manipulate her.

”From the looks of it, he can’t keep pushing himself like this. If you’re his girlfriend, you need to be firmer with him. Health is more important than anything for you young folks. You can’t just throw it all away for the sake of making money.”

”I’m not—”

Before she could finish saying she wasn’t his girlfriend, the doctor cut in, ”If you don’t, then he could be in real danger.”

The doctor assumed Ivy Sherwood was just unwilling to help.

”I don’t... that’s not what I meant.”

”I’m going to get some medication and set him up with an IV drip. You watch over him here,” the doctor said, getting to his feet.

Ivy Sherwood opened her mouth. ”I...”

’We’re not close! I don’t want to stay here and watch him!’

However, the doctor had already left. Besides, with Quentin Blackwood passed out, moving him to the infirmary would be too much trouble.

’I wonder how the wound on his back is doing. It seems like he’s never cared about his own body.’

’Shouldn’t Quentin Blackwood be happier now that he’s finally gotten his revenge? Why does he seem so miserable, like he’s still holding onto something?’

It wasn’t long before the doctor returned, holding a prepared IV bag.

After starting the IV drip for Quentin Blackwood, the doctor said, ”I have two other patients back in the infirmary. The flu has been going around lately, so I’m afraid I’ll need you to watch him here.”

”I...” Ivy Sherwood didn’t even get a chance to object before the doctor left.

She looked at Quentin Blackwood’s closed eyes. She could see how truly exhausted he was; his dark circles were like bruises.

Quentin Blackwood’s hand twitched, as if he were trying to grab something.

On some strange impulse, Ivy Sherwood offered her hand, and Quentin Blackwood’s fingers immediately closed around it, holding it tight. It wouldn’t be so easy to pull away now.

’This man gets himself blind drunk, comes over to torment me, has a meltdown in the middle of the night, and now he’s taken over my bed while I’m stuck sitting here beside him. How is this fair in any way?!’

’The last time she was drunk, it wasn’t Quentin Blackwood who stayed by her side to watch over her.’

’She desperately wanted to leave, to let Quentin Blackwood fend for himself here.’

’But for some reason, her body felt as heavy as lead, making it difficult to even lift her feet.’

She reached out with her free hand and traced Quentin Blackwood’s brow and eyes. ’Perhaps this will be the last time I can ever touch him this closely.’

Last time, Quentin Blackwood had been pretending to be asleep. This time, he was truly unconscious.

She finally had the courage to touch what she hadn’t dared to last time.

Ivy Sherwood watched the IV drip, drop by drop. After the first bag was empty, she switched it out for the second one for Quentin Blackwood.

Her hand was still held fast in Quentin Blackwood’s, feeling the warmth of his large palm.

’She still didn’t understand why Quentin Blackwood was acting like this, and she wondered if, when he woke up, he would find her actions ridiculous.’

By the time Quentin Blackwood’s IV drip was finished, it was already late into the night.

After the doctor came to remove the IV needle, he said to Ivy Sherwood, ”The next few hours are critical. If the patient’s condition changes at all, you must tell me immediately. It’s essential that you stay by his side.”

Then, before Ivy Sherwood could say a word, the doctor was gone again.

’Young man, this is as much as I can do for you. The rest is up to you!’

Ivy Sherwood had originally planned to leave as soon as the IV drip was finished; she had no desire to stay by Quentin Blackwood’s side. But after what the doctor said, she couldn’t possibly leave.

’I wonder if there’s anyone else here who could help watch over Quentin Blackwood.’

Ivy Sherwood stood up and felt around in Quentin Blackwood’s pants pockets. Sure enough, she found his phone.

Quentin Blackwood had gotten a new phone; Ivy Sherwood’s fingerprint no longer worked to unlock it.

She held it up to scan Quentin Blackwood’s face, and the phone unlocked.

’Wouldn’t it be easy, right now, to take advantage of his vulnerability, steal all his confidential files, and transfer all the money from his accounts?’ she thought.

However, Ivy Sherwood just unlocked Quentin Blackwood’s phone. This was the first time she had ever looked through his contact list.

She was looking for Zane Linton, intending to tell him that Quentin Blackwood had collapsed. This resort belonged to Quentin, after all; it should be simple enough for the owner to summon a couple of employees to come help.

But before she could find Zane Linton’s number, her eyes landed on a contact saved as ”Wifey.”

Ivy Sherwood’s heart skipped a beat. She stared at the name, not daring to tap on it.

’Quentin Blackwood’s wifey... who is it?’

’It couldn’t possibly be me, could it?’

Ivy Sherwood quickly dismissed the thought. ’What am I thinking? Quentin Blackwood probably never even considered me his girlfriend. At most, I was a mistress... or not even that, just a bed warmer. Why would he ever save my contact under that name?’

But curiosity overcame her reason, and her finger tapped on the contact.

When she saw the number, Ivy Sherwood froze.
