Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

However, Sylvia Blackwood’s face had already gone pale. The truth was, although Caleb Blackwood had never said it outright, Sylvia knew about her own origins.

’I’m a fake. I’m not a Mercer.’

’Now that the test results are coming out, I’m dead.’

She didn’t know what to do. She’d never had much of a backbone, and neither of the two siblings had inherited any of Caleb Blackwood’s cunning.

”Brother, are you doubting me? We’ve already had a test done,” Sylvia Blackwood said, looking like she was about to cry.

”If you really are our sister, then the result will be the same no matter how many tests we do. What are you afraid of?” Xavier Mercer’s gaze was razor-sharp.

”I...” Sylvia Blackwood was so frightened by his stare that she couldn’t say a word.

’I have to call Caleb Blackwood. I have to let him know about this.’

Xavier Mercer saw her but didn’t stop her. ’It’s perfect if Caleb Blackwood comes back. Some debts are best settled face-to-face!’

Sylvia Blackwood turned to Anna Nash. ”It was you, wasn’t it? What did you say, you little bitch? You’re just a gossip, you just want to ruin me!”

Sylvia Blackwood’s words were vulgar and insulting, not at all befitting a lady from a distinguished family.

Connor Mercer shook his head as he watched. She really couldn’t compare to Ivy Sherwood.

In every aspect, Ivy Sherwood seemed superior.

Although Ivy Sherwood’s family was very ordinary, that just made them feel even more for her. ’How on earth did our aunt end up with a man like that?’

’That man must have made a deal with our aunt. He must have gotten a lot of benefits. But after our aunt passed away, they treated our little sister this way.’

”I didn’t say anything. Don’t go accusing an innocent person. It’s one thing for you to bully Ivy Sherwood and me in private, but are you really going to try and pin everything you and Dad did on me in front of everyone else?”

Anna Nash deliberately brought up Ivy Sherwood, firstly to clear her own name, and secondly to make these people punish Sylvia Blackwood severely.

She had long found Sylvia Blackwood intolerable.

Sylvia Blackwood’s hands clenched into fists. She really wanted to give Anna Nash a couple of slaps.

Ever since Anna Nash came to this house, everything had changed. The whole place was in turmoil.

Just looking at Anna Nash’s fawning expression infuriated her.

The minutes ticked by. Before the test results were out, Caleb Blackwood returned.

”Mr. Mercer, what is the meaning of this? This is the Blackwood Family estate. It’s not appropriate for you to bring so many people here, is it?” Caleb Blackwood had rushed back from his company.

Silas Blackwood was behind him, having returned with him. ”What do you think you’re doing with all these people? Are you showing no respect for the Blackwood Family?”

Xavier Mercer stood up. ”President Blackwood, you’re back just in time. I still feel that the matter of Miss Blackwood being my sister needs another test to be sure. As it happens, I’ve brought my own people and equipment. The results should be ready soon. Why don’t you wait and see them with me, President Blackwood?”

A flicker of something crossed Caleb Blackwood’s eyes. ’The Mercer Family really is something else.’

’It seems my plan is about to fail.’

”Fine.” Caleb Blackwood had no choice but to agree.

”But what’s the deal with all your men, President Mercer? Having them all over my Blackwood estate is a bit much, don’t you think?” Caleb Blackwood’s eyes narrowed. The old fox had already figured out an escape route for himself.

”Rest assured, President Blackwood. If the results show that Sylvia Blackwood is indeed my sister, then I, Xavier Mercer, will naturally apologize to you.”

”Very well. Since you have so little faith in the previous results, President Mercer, I will wait with you.”

”President Blackwood, the Jade Pendant you mentioned last time, the one placed on my sister... do you still have it?”

”Of course.” Caleb Blackwood had no idea his Jade Pendant had been swapped out; he still thought his was the real one.

Xavier Mercer’s eyes darkened. He had heard from Miles Mercer that Caleb Blackwood had actually stolen that Jade Pendant.

This Caleb Blackwood was pure evil, rotten to the core. It now seemed he had done quite a bit against Ivy Sherwood as well.

They had all seen the news online about the forced marriage. They had felt Ivy Sherwood’s situation was tragic before, but now it seemed that if she hadn’t insisted on breaking off the engagement back then, she would have long since entered the Blackwood Family’s den of wolves, where she’d have been eaten alive, with not even her bones left behind.

”I wonder if I could take another look at it.”

”I’m afraid not. Didn’t you already see it last time?” Caleb Blackwood had no intention of showing it again.

’Even if my plan fails, Ivy Sherwood won’t be able to get that fortune without the Jade Pendant. If I can’t have it, she can’t have it either!’

Xavier Mercer wasn’t concerned. The real Jade Pendant was with Ivy Sherwood anyway. This fake one of Caleb Blackwood’s, wherever it came from, couldn’t cause any real trouble.

Just then, the person from the testing team came out with the report. ”President Mercer.”

Before Xavier Mercer even looked at the results, he saw the technician shake his head.

Sure enough, when he flipped to the end, it read: familial relationship not established.

Even though he already knew this would be the outcome, a surge of rage still filled Xavier Mercer’s chest.

They had almost fallen for Caleb Blackwood’s trap. They had almost mistaken someone else for their real sister!

”Caleb Blackwood! Your Blackwood Family conspired to deceive the Mercer Family!” Xavier Mercer threw the report directly in Caleb Blackwood’s face, and the bodyguards he had brought with him immediately surrounded the Blackwoods.

”What do you Mercers think you’re doing?!” Silas Blackwood roared, incensed by the scene. This was their Blackwood estate!

So what if it was the Blackwood estate? Xavier Mercer wasn’t the least bit afraid.

They had brought a lot of people to Lustre this time. With the Mercer Family’s power, taking down a single Blackwood Family was a trivial matter.

Of course, that was assuming Quentin Blackwood didn’t interfere.

But Quentin Blackwood’s relationship with the Mercer Family wasn’t good, so he most likely wouldn’t get involved.

Caleb Blackwood said, ”I have no idea what’s going on. I never deceived you.”

”You’re still trying to argue?” Connor Mercer stared at the man. ’This Caleb Blackwood is truly shameless.’

He could still say such things with the evidence right in front of him.

”How am I arguing? You were the ones who saw Sylvia at the airport and came looking for me. You were the ones who wanted to do a DNA test. We went to the hospital together, and the hospital issued the report. What does that have to do with me?”

”You were also the ones who wanted Sylvia to go to Elandra with you. She was the one who didn’t want to go, it’s not like I stopped her. And now look, suddenly it’s all my fault? It’s become my lie?”

”First, you said Sylvia was your sister. Now you bring a bunch of random people over, demanding another test, and suddenly you’re saying she’s not your sister. How does that prove your results are real? What if you’re the ones who decided you don’t want Sylvia, that you don’t want to acknowledge her as your sister?”

Caleb Blackwood’s silver tongue was working overtime. He had clearly anticipated this outcome and had already prepared his excuses.

Not only did he paint himself as completely blameless, but he also managed to shift all the blame onto the Mercers.
