Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

At the mention of Quentin Blackwood, Ivy Sherwood’s hand paused. ”It’s over between us.”

”What?” Nina Scott was stunned. ”What do you mean, ’over’?”

Ivy Sherwood pressed her lips together and didn’t answer.

Seeing that Ivy Sherwood didn’t look like she was joking, Nina Scott got serious too. ”Are you for real? You and Quentin Blackwood...”

’It’s over just like that?’

’Impossible, right?’

”Didn’t President Blackwood just take you to a banquet yesterday? As his date! Do you have any idea what that means? Do you know that Quentin Blackwood has never taken a date to a banquet in all these years? You’re the only one who’s ever stood by his side!”

”Don’t you lie to me. This huge painting, this antique, and this massive diamond—you can’t buy these even if you have the money. Didn’t he give them to you?”

’The two of them seemed perfectly fine yesterday. What happened? How did it suddenly end?’

’No wonder Ivy’s mood felt off the moment I arrived. She should be happy, but Ivy isn’t happy at all.’

”Tell me the truth. Did he bully you?” Of course, Nina Scott was unconditionally on Ivy Sherwood’s side.

Ivy Sherwood shook her head. ”He’s been great. We were never in the kind of relationship you think we were. And we never should have started anything in the first place.”

”You two... Ugh. Well, it doesn’t matter. There are plenty of fish in the sea. When I have time, I’ll find you another one—someone even more handsome and richer than Quentin Blackwood!” Nina Scott slung an arm around Ivy Sherwood’s shoulder, pulling her into a hug.

Nina Scott knew that Ivy Sherwood’s personality wasn’t as impulsive as her own; Ivy was a very insecure person.

Nina Scott had told Ivy Sherwood before never to fall in love with Quentin Blackwood. That path would be incredibly difficult, and the slightest misstep could lead to utter ruin—she could even end up dead.

’Breaking up now is for the best. At least she won’t have to worry about being targeted by people like Joy Sheridan.’

”If you really find someone like that, you should keep him for yourself. I’m not in the mood to think about these things right now. I want to make money.”

’Make lots and lots of money. So much that she’ll be the one spending money on Quentin Blackwood, not the other way around!’

Having recently studied finance, Ivy Sherwood had been practicing with a number of investments, all of which were currently profitable.

”Okay, then I’ll make money with you!” Nina Scott said encouragingly. She paused, then continued, ”Why don’t you just skip work today?”

”Why?”

Nina Scott said, ”Someone who’s heartbroken needs to relax. Do you want a spa day or to go clubbing? How about I find you the best male masseur?”

’Heartbroken?’

’She and Quentin Blackwood were never even in a relationship. How could she be heartbroken?’

”I don’t want a spa day or to go clubbing. I want to work so I can be your sugar mama one day!”

Nina Scott agreed. ”Okay! I’m very easy to keep.”

Ivy Sherwood tidied up and was about to head to the company when her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen. It was Caleb Blackwood’s number.

Ivy Sherwood’s brow furrowed. ’Why would Caleb Blackwood be calling me?’

Worried it might be about her mother, Ivy Sherwood thought for a moment before answering. Caleb Blackwood’s voice came from the other end. ”Ivy Sherwood, get down to the hospital.”

”Sorry, I have other things to do.” Ivy Sherwood didn’t know why Caleb Blackwood wanted her at the hospital.

”Silas was attacked last night. This has something to do with you, doesn’t it?”

”What attack?” Ivy Sherwood had no idea what he was talking about.

’Didn’t Silas Blackwood leave early last night? Even if he was attacked, what does that have to do with me?’

’From the sound of Caleb Blackwood’s tone, was Silas Blackwood beaten to death or something?’

”Get to City Hospital now. If you don’t, I’ll scatter your mother’s ashes!”

After making his threat, Caleb Blackwood hung up.

”What’s wrong, Ivy? What happened?” Nina Scott asked anxiously.

’It looked like something serious had happened.’

”Silas Blackwood got beaten up last night. Caleb Blackwood probably thinks I did it and wants me to go to the hospital.”

”Silas Blackwood was beaten up? Is he still alive? Which kind soul did this good deed?” Nina Scott clapped her hands in delight.

’A guy like that deserves a beating!’

”I don’t know. I’m going to the hospital to see.” She didn’t know how badly Silas Blackwood was beaten, but she felt the Blackwoods probably suspected her. This was something she had to clear up.

Nina Scott said, ”Then I’ll go with you.”

”No, it’s fine. I’ll go by myself.” The Blackwoods were probably furious right now, and she was afraid of getting Nina Scott involved.

”Then be careful. If Caleb Blackwood takes his anger out on you, you can’t let yourself be pushed around.”

”Of course. Thank you, Nina!”

”What’s there to thank me for? Now, hurry up and go.”

Ivy Sherwood got in her car and drove directly to the hospital Caleb Blackwood had mentioned.

In the hospital room, Mrs. Blackwood was still ranting, ”We absolutely cannot let her get away with this! She’s definitely involved! What is my son supposed to do with the rest of his life? It must be that Ivy Sherwood! Because she refused to marry you, she deliberately attacked you! She’s so vicious! She nearly ruined you!”

Ivy could hear the loud voice from outside. ’So they really think I did this?’

Ivy Sherwood knocked on the hospital room door, then pushed it open and went inside.

”Ivy Sherwood! You have the nerve to show your face!” Upon seeing Ivy, the agitated Mrs. Blackwood’s eyes narrowed with fury.

She raised her hand to slap Ivy Sherwood, but Ivy forcefully grabbed her wrist. Her grip was so strong that a sharp pain shot through Mrs. Blackwood’s wrist.

Ivy Sherwood looked coldly at the three people in the room. ”Weren’t you the ones who called me here?”

She glanced at Silas Blackwood in the hospital bed. His face was pale, and he looked completely dejected, a far cry from the aggressive, arrogant man he’d been last night.

Ivy treated this as a chance to watch a show and gloat. If she were Silas Blackwood, she would have hidden away after something like this, not letting anyone know.

But Silas Blackwood’s attitude seemed intent on letting the whole world know.

The corners of her mouth turned up. She really wasn’t trying to smile, but she just couldn’t control her delight.

”What’s this? Did the scumbag get what was coming to him? Can’t be a man anymore?”

Silas Blackwood’s face darkened. ’He knew they shouldn’t have called Ivy Sherwood over. She must be gloating right now!’

”Let go of me!” Mrs. Blackwood yanked her hand back. Damn this Ivy Sherwood! She was even angrier now that her slap hadn’t landed.

”Ivy Sherwood, you did this, didn’t you?” Mrs. Blackwood pinned the blame directly on Ivy. ’That little bitch! Why wasn’t she the one who got hurt? Ivy Sherwood’s the one who deserves to be hit by a car and stabbed to death!’

Her glare was venomous, as if Ivy Sherwood had desecrated her ancestors’ graves.

”This has nothing to do with me.”

Mrs. Blackwood didn’t believe her and even said, ”If it has nothing to do with you, then how did you know that Silas...”

Mrs. Blackwood was too embarrassed to say it out loud. Ivy Sherwood had just said that Silas Blackwood couldn’t be a man anymore. If she hadn’t known beforehand, how could she have known that?

In Caleb Blackwood’s phone call, he had only mentioned an attack, but he hadn’t specified what kind of attack it was.

Ivy Sherwood said calmly, ”If your voice gets any louder, it won’t just be me who heard you from outside. The entire hospital will know.”
