Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1490: Chapter 1474: Miss Huo, You’ve Bested Me!

Paterson originally thought that in this competition, even if he couldn’t easily seize a top ten spot again, entering the finals wouldn’t be a problem.

But his confident self-assurance vanished completely after encountering Huo Sining.

From a completely relaxed state to successive mistakes and now being on high alert, he became more cautious as the competition progressed.

Although he was nervously waiting for the croupier to deal the cards, he was carefully watching the expression of the Eastern woman opposite him, afraid to miss any change on her face.

However, the more cautious he was, the more Paterson lost his direction.

This Eastern woman was simply too cunning. Throughout the game, she kept smiling without any change in expression.

Yet from the beginning of the match, she was folding, bluffing, and betting as if it was nothing, leaving everyone clueless about her strategy.

During the process, Paterson attempted to set several traps for the woman, but for some reason, whenever he felt sure of victory, she managed to avoid or thwart his traps without a trace, making him feel as if he was hitting cotton with no place to exert force.

Weren’t Eastern women supposed to be simple and easy to deceive? Why did it completely backfire with this woman?!

Frustrated, Paterson felt deeply powerless, unable to do anything against her.

No, Paterson, you can’t go on like this!

As the chips in his hand dwindled, Paterson’s heart grew anxious and restless. He was calculating in his heart to set a big trap for this woman, or else he would surely be doomed this time.

Soon, the opportunity came!

The croupier dealt the cards, and Paterson got a ten of spades and queen of hearts, which together with the jack of spades on the table formed a straight.

Seeing the hole cards, Paterson was first surprised and then a bit disappointed. If the queen of hearts were a spade, it would be a royal flush, granting him a sure victory.

Unfortunately, he was just a bit off.

However, drawing such a hand halfway through the game was already considered very lucky.

Paterson was still quite pleased. If he played this round well, reversing the situation and becoming the winner was not impossible!

Paterson pretended to agonize over his hand, exhibiting signs of doubt, hesitation, and then reluctantly followed with a bet of a hundred thousand in chips.

Huo Sining didn’t even look at her cards, directly matching the bet with a hundred thousand chips.

Seeing Huo Sining call, Paterson was secretly pleased and couldn’t help but glance at his hole cards again.

Even though he had already looked at them, on the poker table, the weaker side would always lack confidence, especially since this was the hand Paterson was counting on to reverse the game.

Thus, during the showdown, Paterson couldn’t help but keep checking his hole cards.

By now, Paterson faced another choice. If he called, he’d have to bet two hundred thousand while his own chips were running low, or he could fold and miss such a great opportunity to turn the tables.

Concerns about this woman’s methods made Paterson deeply conflicted.

On one hand, he worried that he’d still lose to this woman even if he called, something he couldn’t afford;

On the other hand, he held onto a mindset that with a straight in hand, a win would mean a comeback.

He agonized for three minutes before the croupier started the countdown, at which point he finally gathered the resolve and pushed the two hundred thousand chips forward.

Now, there were eight hundred thousand in chips on the table. Paterson stared intently at Huo Sining on the opposite side, thinking to himself: This time, you shouldn’t just call without looking at your cards, right? Let’s see how long you can hold out.

As if seeing through his thoughts, Huo Sining calmly reached out to glance at her card corner, a glint of light flashing in her eyes.

Paterson naturally didn’t miss Huo Sining’s brief change in expression and was inwardly jubilant.

Although Huo Sining quickly masked the panic in her eyes, Paterson had already caught it.

It looked like this Eastern woman’s hole cards were definitely poor; otherwise, she wouldn’t have shown such a panicked expression.

Paterson trusted his eyes and judgment. He believed he hadn’t seen wrong! This round, he was sure to win!

Feeling certain his hand would win, Paterson regained his confidence, and his gaze towards Huo Sining became steady and assured.

Meanwhile, Huo Sining’s face remained smiling, but she showed a bit of hesitation and didn’t immediately call.

This ”hesitation” further solidified Paterson’s belief, and a hint of a smile appeared in his eyes, although his face still showed tension, as if worried that Huo Sining would call.

Paterson’s performance only amused Huo Sining, who, with the Heavenly Eye having already seen through his hand, thought to herself how laughable it was.

Feigning a struggle, Huo Sining reluctantly pushed forward forty thousand in chips.

Seeing Huo Sining actually call, Paterson was initially stunned, then overjoyed.

He had assumed Huo Sining would fold this hand, but she surprising called.

If you don’t court disaster, you won’t fail, Paterson thought gleefully, his pity for Huo Sining not causing him to stop, instead smiling at her and saying:

”Lovely Miss Huo, I only have one hundred and sixty thousand chips now. If I don’t call this one, maybe I can hold out until the end today, but there’s no fun in such a game. I’m not willing to waste time either. If you don’t mind, why don’t we settle the win or loss in this hand?”

Of course, Huo Sining was eager to accept, but she dared not agree too quickly, fearing that by responding too readily, she might arouse Paterson’s suspicion.

To prevent Paterson from regretting, Huo Sining purposely hesitated for a moment before reluctantly nodding her head.

Seeing Huo Sining nodding in agreement, Paterson immediately pushed all his chips across the table, afraid she might change her mind.

Seeing this, Huo Sining smirked inwardly and also pushed one hundred and sixty thousand chips into the center of the table.

Both parties indicated readiness to reveal, and the croupier nodded, signaling both to show their hands.

A confident smile appeared on Paterson’s face as he swiftly laid down his pair of cards.

Seeing Huo Sining in a daze, Paterson thought she was stunned by his hand, and he was elated.

He lifted his head, puffed his chest, and smiled triumphantly at Huo Sining: ”Miss Huo, I’ll take this one!”

By now, the competition was nearing its end, and many of the other twenty tables had already concluded.

Paterson counted his chips, convinced this round was enough to decide the win or loss, sure he had beaten the Eastern woman and could successfully enter the finals!
