Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: The Disappearance of Luo Qianqian (Part 4)

Luo Qianqian had no idea how long they had been driving, only that the light through the crack was getting weaker. Fortunately, she had managed to finish writing on all the pages and on the skin of the book during the brighter moments, hoping someone would find it and tell her mother and brother.

With a ’pop,’ a piece of hard paper hit the windshield of the moving black car.

”What the hell, littering!” The driver complained softly, fearful of angering the ’Killer God’ behind him, ”Luo Qianqian, Luo Shufan, An Zilan? Must be someone’s prank, right? Who dares to kidnap under your watch?” The driver said half-flatteringly to the constantly silent ’Killer God’.

The ’Killer God’ opened his eyes, his sharp gaze sweeping over the hard paper caught on the wiper, ”Hand it to me.”

The driver didn’t hesitate, deciively stopping the car to remove the hard paper labeled ’notebook’ from the outside, passing it respectfully through the opened rear window to the ’Killer God,’ before returning to his seat to continue driving.

”Follow the car ahead,” the ’Killer God’ commanded next.

The driver gave a wry smile in response, thinking to himself, My god, what have I done? The boss wanted me to bring ’Killer God’ early, and here I’ve gone and found trouble; I’ll probably be fired after we get back. Yet, under the ’Killer God’’s imposing presence, he had no choice but to act on his ideas.

An Zilan? Luo Shufan? Interesting. Luo Qianqian, a girl? Intriguing.

The man known as the ’Killer God’ half-closed his eyes in the back seat, watching the car not far ahead. If he wasn’t mistaken, that piece of paper must have come from that unnoticeable three-inch gap. It seems attending a birthday feast in such a trivial place on behalf of the Master wasn’t completely boring after all, at least he had found something interesting to do.

The car left the highway, taking a small road to a factory in the suburbs, completely oblivious to the black ’invisible’ car following behind them without its lights on under the cover of night.

”Big Brother, are we going to see the Boss now?”

”Nonsense! When you meet the Boss, keep your mouth shut. The Boss is moody; even I have to act submissive and cautious around him. The Boss is not someone ordinary; even a dragon would cower and a tiger would lie down in his presence!”

”Big Brother, you’re making me more nervous. I’ve never met the Boss before.”

”Yes, Boss, I get nervous and need to use the bathroom...”

”Hold it in. We’re here now, and the Boss won’t be seeing you for long. The Boss is busy.”

”But, Boss...”

Luo Qianqian also wanted to say she needed to use the bathroom as well, not from nervousness, but from being held in. At least the others in the car had used the bathroom; she had been playing dead in the trunk the whole time, without so much as a drink of water or dinner.

And the car has air conditioning, right? Even if there’s no air conditioning, you’re driving with the windows down, right? That thin gap was barely enough to keep her from dying of heat in this blazing summer. If she were to die from the heat, she wondered how sad her mother and brother would be, considering she hadn’t even fulfilled her wish of owning a puppy. Fortunately, she had a strong life force.

”Wait here, I’ll go and check.” The ’Killer God’ signaled for the driver to stop the car, then, coolly putting on a black coat, he got out of the car and disappeared.

The driver smiled bitterly and helplessly nodded. He was doomed. Not only had he driven the boss’s low-profile luxurious car to such a remote location, causing probable damage to the tires that might cost more than his year’s salary, but he had also allowed the boss’s prized and easily elusive guest, the ’Killer God,’ to act alone. If he didn’t return, wouldn’t that mean losing both his job and any unpaid salary? The driver simply clasped his hands together, praying for the ’Killer God’ to return soon.

Killer God watched as the obviously exhausted and sweaty little girl, pretending to faint, was carried into the warehouse, a smile curling up at the corner of his mouth. She truly was the child he had taken an interest in.

Luo Qianqian felt that her body was almost out of strength. She could only silently pray that her rescuer was already on the way. Otherwise, she feared she couldn’t hold on much longer. After all, a five-year-old child staying awake this long was already tough for her, and it was all thanks to the morning training He’s father conducted daily for them three. It seems she needed to train diligently once she got back and not slack off. Otherwise, encountering such situations again would be truly tormenting both mentally and physically.

But soon, she wanted to slap herself for thinking absurdly, ’Encounter such situations again? Did she want to go through this numerous more times???

”Boss, the person you wanted has been brought here,” the man holding Luo Qianqian said.

”Just lay her down there; kids need to get a good sleep. Carrying them isn’t comfortable,” a lazy and casual voice reached Luo Qianqian’s ears. She paused, really wanting to open her eyes to see what the speaker looked like—what kind of divine figure he was. But reason still held her back, and she kept her eyes firmly shut. Such a voice didn’t sound like the terrifying boss the other men were so scared of. It clearly belonged to a man not older than thirty, with a youthful tone, though there was a hint of vicissity and reluctance in it for some reason.

Luo Qianqian felt herself lying on something soft and stretched her body slightly, preparing for whatever unknown challenge lay ahead.

”You can go now; your meal is ready,” the lazy voice continued.

”Yes, Boss,” Luo Qianqian really wanted to ask these people what was so scary about such a carefree voice as she heard the slightly trembling voice above her head.

The ’squeak’ of a closing door.

”You must be awake, right? When people sleep, their limbs stretch upwards,” the lazy voice spoke again near Luo Qianqian, startling her. Just a moment ago the voice seemed far away; she hadn’t heard any footsteps, so how had it suddenly gotten so close?

She wasn’t stupid, okay? What kind of limbs stretching upwards—did he really think she was a fearful little five-year-old who only knew how to pretend to be asleep? She decisively remained immobile.

”Well, well, pretty clever. Get up now; I mean no harm. There is food here; have some. It looks like you haven’t had water in a long time; your lips are severely chapped.” The lazy voice still spoke above Luo Qianqian’s head.

”How do you know I’m not asleep, or say, not fainting?” Luo Qianqian gave up pretending, opened her eyes, but felt her throat incredibly dry the moment she spoke.

”Here’s some water. That drug dosage would knock out an adult woman for half an hour, and at most two hours for a child like you. You might deceive those fools, but not me. Drink up, I didn’t poison it.” Luo Qianqian finally saw the man in front of her, fair and clear-skinned, with picturesque brows and eyes, and clean black hair. If it weren’t for those men calling him Boss earlier, she wouldn’t believe that someone with such a scholarly appearance could be the leader of those ruffians.

Luo Qianqian sat up straight and took the water cup, sipping slowly, thinking did they go through all the trouble to bring her here just for a meal and some water?

”My younger brother’s subordinates bothered you before, and then those parents came to me seeking a lesson for you. He falsely used my command to have my men kidnap you. I only found out about this just now, so you don’t need to worry about any malice from me,” Pale-faced Scholar said.

”How old are you? Are you really the boss of those big thugs? Who’s your brother? Do you think I could be a boss like you?” Luo Qianqian looked at the young, fair-faced man across from her, swallowing the last sip of water, finally energized enough to keep questioning.

”Me? How old do I look? Yes, I’m truly their boss. My brother looks a lot like me, just not as handsome. You, want to be a boss too?”

”Yes, yes, do you think I can do it? You look about twenty-something, I haven’t seen your brother so how would I know what he looks like.” Luo Qianqian handed the water cup back to Pale-faced Scholar: ”I haven’t even had dinner yet, do you have any porridge? It’s so late, porridge would be easy to digest.”

Squatting in the corner, Killer God couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth. This was the mastermind behind your kidnapping, and you still managed to chat so casually with him? You really are... truly the target Master is interested in.
