Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 33: Chapter 33: The Unpredictable Human Heart, Unknown Good or Evil (Part 1)

After resolving a big issue, He’s father swiftly headed to the local police station with Luo’s Mom and the two kids in tow.

”So you’re the parent of those injured brats, huh? Just retract your complaint and this whole thing can be put to bed, otherwise, you and your little shits better watch out!” Watching the woman with her flamboyant yellow wavy hair waving in the air, pointing and yelling at He’s father, Luo Qianqian couldn’t help but think the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Her sharp nails were mere centimeters away from poking He Jun’s face before she forcefully halted her forward charge, her eyes smothered in dramatic colored eyeshadow glaring at the family of four.

”Wuwuwu, Mommy, Qianqian is scared,” Luo Qianqian, seeing two uniformed police officers step out from behind the woman, quickly turned and clung to Luo’s Mom, crying out loud, ”Is this scary auntie going to hit me, wuwuwu, Qianqian is scared of being hit again, wuwuwu, if we say those rainbow big brothers didn’t hit us, can she not have someone hit us?”

”Wuwuwu, Daddy, I’m scared too, this auntie is so scary, even scarier than the one in the hospital wuwuwu.” He Wenyu, seeing Luo Qianqian crying, although not understanding what was happening, felt her instincts suggested that crying along was the right thing to do—anyway, this scary auntie was indeed frightening.

”Good that you know, just do exactly as I say, or else I’ll have someone beat you every day! The money I’d spend on beating you once wouldn’t be as much as one of my handbags, so you better realize that,” the woman held her head high, while the face of the handsome uniformed officer behind her had turned darker than charcoal.

”You dare to brazenly threaten the victims right at the police station’s door? Do you think we police officers are just here for show?” infuriated to the brink, the young police officer in uniform, his voice shaking slightly.

”Who do you think you are? My husband knows your chief of police, watch out or you’ll lose your job!” the woman snootily lifted her chin, sweeping a contemptuous gaze over the bespectacled officer’s face and mockingly said, ”But even if you lose your job, with looks like yours, you should still be able to hold your own in the auntie circles.”

”Heh, I just hope you can still stand there so nonchalantly and mock us later,” said the uniformed hunk without glasses, holding back the visibly angry and upset younger cop with glasses, ”Captain Zhang is waiting inside for you. Please come with me.”

”Xiao Yu, be good, look, Qianqian is no longer crying. If you keep crying, the police uncle might take you away.” He Jun held his still-tearful precious daughter, while Luo Qianqian held onto her mom’s hand, following closely behind He’s father and the non-glasses-wearing officer into the police station.

”Heh, I’d like to see what can’t be solved with money! It’s just a few stolen coins; I’ll pay ten times over. I refuse to believe that these paupers will still insist on suing my son! If ten times isn’t enough, I’ll give twenty times. People like them have probably never seen so much money in their lives!” the woman’s voice came unabashedly from behind the six of them. The two young officers showed no reaction, continuing to walk straight ahead, as Luo’s Mom and Mr. He had grim expressions and He Wenyu’s face was stained with tears.

Following behind her mom, Luo Qianqian allowed a mocking smile to curl her lips: Money is indeed worth everyone’s affection, but when one assumes different roles, different choices are made, like the role of a mother. Her own mom would rather be penniless and destitute than fail to teach her children to be optimistic, upright, honest, and kind. Using money to sway her was decidedly impossible; her mom would surely stand with justice, just like ”Crayon Shin-chan”’s ’Motion Superman.’ For the sake of her children’s growth, her mom always stuck to those seeming trivial yet disadvantageous bottom lines. However, thinking back to her previous life where her mom worked tirelessly ill for money but never bowed her head or accepted gifts from others, fearing it would put her at a disadvantage.

”Mom? Qianqian?” A familiar voice came from a room behind, ”Godfather, Xiao Yu, you’re here too.”

”Brother? Why were you brought here?” Please don’t tell me they brought you here to pull out your teeth... Luo Qianqian looked at the transparent sealed plastic bag in the policeman’s hand behind her, which still had two bloody teeth in it, and weakly asked Luo Shufan.

”Nothing much, just had a look at my teeth. Now that you’re here, I don’t need to go back to the hospital,” explained Luo Shufan. Luo’s Mom let go of her daughter’s hand, stood in front of her son and looked him over from side to side, cradling Luo Shufan’s cheeks and shaking them left and right, only short of doing what a dentist would do and asking him to open his mouth.

”Your family? Then you can go with your family to Captain Zhang, I’m going to submit my report,” said the police officer following Luo Shufan, lifting the report and two teeth in his hand, greeted Luo Shufan, nodded slightly to Luo’s Mom and He’s father, and then turned to go upstairs.

After politely waving goodbye, Luo Shufan stepped around Luo’s Mom and stood in front of his sister with a stern face, ”Luo Qianqian, let me tell you, next time you pretend to be sick to scare people, give me a heads-up!”

Suddenly, Luo Qianqian’s face scrunched up like a Baozi, ”Brother~~ I know now, okay? It was an emergency at the time, but look, I’m fine,” she said, swaying Luo Shufan’s hand from side to side. ”Don’t mention it at the police station, what if the police uncle thinks I’m a bad kid and arrests me?” Luo Qianqian cringed at her own voice, but still put on a woebegone face, staring at her brother with bulging eyes and puffing up her cheeks.

”Don’t let it happen again!”

Luo Qianqian stuck out her tongue and followed behind Luo’s Mom hand-in-hand with her brother. The group walked into an office shared by several people.

”You’re here. There’s good news for you. Luo Shufan’s loss of two teeth falls under minor injuries. However, since the suspect is under eighteen, they won’t face a heavy sentence, but you should be able to get a decent amount of compensation, including medical expenses, for sure. As long as the compensation amount is reasonable, it will be accepted. However, our captain suggests it would be best if this could be settled privately; their family seems to have some influence,” whispered Zhang Ye, conspiratorially creating a circle with Luo’s Mom and He’s father.

Actually, the compensation money sounds pretty good, at least it means not losing out on the chance to do other money-making ventures. Luo Qianqian thought to herself silently, listening to Zhang Ye’s words behind Luo’s Mom.

”I can see that, the one downstairs must be one of the kids’ mothers, right? Her haughty air doesn’t look like that of simple folk like us,” He’s father paused, looking at the tears still on his own daughter’s face, and said viciously.

”Well, that’s just one of them. There are another two slightly more special ones complaining in our assistant director’s office right now. There’s nothing our director can do, so our captain was told to suggest you consider settling privately. These kids have been here more than once, several times, but every time the victims choose to drop the charges, so they end up with no record. I’m just letting you know. The decision is in your hands. All I can say is that the connections of the remaining two go beyond our assistant director, and there’s little I can do,” said Zhang Ye.
