Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 30: Chapter 30: So It’s an Old ’Acquaintance

Luo Qianqian opened her mouth and watched Elder Zhang walk away and everyone else reaching an agreement, feeling as though she had already stepped into a deep abyss of a trap.

”Mom, I’m still a kid, how can you treat me like this??” Luo Qianqian flung herself into Luo’s Mom’s embrace, kicking her little legs in a fit of spoiled petulance, as if she wouldn’t give up until she achieved her goal.

”You’re just staying at home anyway, why not go out and have some fun? You’ll have Xiao Yu and your brother to keep you company—you won’t be bored.” Luo’s Mom gently picked up her daughter, frowning slightly—it seemed the old girl had been eating more recently, as her weight had definitely increased quite a bit: ”You’re not supposed to study every day. Teacher Zhang is such a nice person, and so easygoing. Don’t you also like puppies? You can play with the puppy.”

”Qianqian, you now know what it means to lift a rock only to drop it on your own feet, right? You dared to set me up.” Luo Shufan took a fierce bite out of the apple he’d given to his sister earlier, now forsaken on the hospital bed.

”I’m doing this for your own good, you know?” With your level of English, not to mention conversing with foreigners in the future, it wouldn’t be anywhere near sufficient just for exams, hmph. I can’t criticize you into realizing you’re not as awesome as you think just because you scored first place—that sort of comment would raise Mom’s suspicions. Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes and thought to herself.

”Well, I’m also doing this for your good. My sister is so amazing, despite being a bit dark, short, young, and a bit less charming than Xiao Yu, she’s great in all other aspects. Wouldn’t it be even better if her studies were great too?” Luo Shufan coddled He Wenyu, fearing the child would change their mind due to being unhappy and thereby agree with his sister’s viewpoint, but he also conveniently stepped on his sister in the process.

”Hmph, whether you’re as good as me is still debatable.” After all, I’ve been to university. Luo Qianqian held her ground under Luo’s Mom’s scrutiny, continuing to roll her eyes ungracefully.

”Oh my, Mom, did you hear that? Qianqian has thrown down the gauntlet at me.” Luo Shufan didn’t feel the slightest bit ashamed to be challenged to a study duel by a five-year-old sister—it was, after all, not an ordinary sister he had: ”I have to learn well from Teacher Zhang and then give Qianqian a good competition. If I lose, I’ll agree to any of Qianqian’s demands. As long as Qianqian makes them, I have to fulfill them; if Qianqian loses, she must listen to me. Qianqian, do you agree?”

As if I would lose?? Me, Luo Qianqian, bet my sixteen years of academic life against a fourth-grader like you??? Thinking this, Luo Qianqian readily accepted the challenge: ”Bring it on, who’s afraid of who? When you lose, I’ll show you what it’s like to have a sister like the Great Demon King!”

Luo Shufan didn’t respond to his sister’s provocation, instead he gave Luo’s Mom a conspiratorial wink, a look of a plot successfully executed: ”Mom, Godfather and Xiao Yu, you all have to vouch for me. Otherwise, I’m afraid someone will refuse to admit defeat!”

”As if, who would deny it???”

”Alright, Qianqian, go for it, Godfather is rooting for you.”

”Mm, Qianqian, do your best. You must win.”

”You two, alright, alright, Mom will be your witness. Shufan, don’t bully Qianqian too much, she’s your little sister after all.”

Luo Qianqian, He Jun, He Wenyu, and Luo’s Mom said in unison.

Luo Qianqian, feeling frustrated and indignant, clung to Luo’s Mom’s thigh: ”Mom, you must watch brother closely and not let him cheat. It’s too annoying that he’s actually bullying Qianqian, and Qianqian is still just a child.” Displaying weakness to the enemy, overpowering the enemy with strength, Luo Qianqian thought and continued to cling to her mother’s leg, acting spoiled.

Zhang Ye, rubbing his nose awkwardly, entered the hospital room. His grandfather had just given him a long, threatening look before stepping out and demanded that he must come home for dinner on the weekend. Having just returned, he subconsciously crouched in the corner for a bit—yes, it must be a work habit, definitely a work habit because, as a police officer, you need to gather more information: ”Shall we head back to the station now to record the statements? The other parents have arrived too.”

”Hmm, alright, Qianqian, have you thanked Officer Zhang yet?” Luo’s Mom pulled up her daughter, who was stubbornly clinging to her leg with a bratty demeanor, and her curled fingers landed on her smooth forehead: ”No more acting out. If you do, I won’t let your godmother make you pork trotters anymore.”

Hearing this, Luo Qianqian quickly stood up straight and bowed deeply, ”Thank you Uncle Zhang, the police officers have worked hard.” Why you are joking, ”Fragrance Comes” has been unexpectedly popular, right? How could I cut off my own source of income.

”Thank you Officer Zhang (Uncle Zhang),” Luo Shufan and He Wenyu exchanged glances and followed Luo Qianqian in thanking him, also bowing at ninety degrees.

”It’s nothing, it’s nothing; this is what the people’s police should do,” Zhang Ye said, stunned as he watched the little rascal turn into a well-behaved little lady, ”I’ll be heading back to the station first. You guys clean up and don’t rush to be discharged; the one upstairs hasn’t completed the discharge procedures yet.”

”Who the hell beat up my nephew like that? Cough up the money; don’t think about leaving without paying up thousands or even ten thousand.” With red hair, big red lips, a tight red dress clinging to her body, and fingernails painted red, the woman pointed at Zhang Ye as soon as she came in. The fat on her face shook violently as she spoke, saliva flying everywhere.

”Damn it!” Luo Qianqian blurted out a curse at the sight of the newcomer and then turned to glare at Xiao Yu. No one else here knew this woman now. But in her past life, He Wenyu had been entangled with this woman for three years.

All because of that woman’s son named: Zhao Wenxuan.

Zhao Wenxuan, who had entangled with Xiao Yu for three years before abandoning her to marry a petite woman from the south, caused Xiao Yu to be abandoned by her family and despised by friends for being shameless, and he even became a joke among Zhao Wenxuan’s friends.

Even for that man, Xiao Yu was willing to fly back to take care of him when he suffered from stomach bleeding due to heavy drinking. And the reason for the stomach bleeding was ridiculous: the woman from the south had refused his advances because he had no money, no car, no house, and was not that good-looking.

Taking advantage of Xiao Yu’s care for him, he borrowed all of Xiao Yu’s savings, then cut off contact with her, disappearing without a trace. A month later, he reappeared, grandly announcing that he was getting married because his girlfriend was pregnant.

He added that Xiao Yu could consider the loan as a wedding gift, as he couldn’t repay it anyway; it could be compensation for the years she wasted on him. Seeing Xiao Yu with dark circles under her eyes from worry, he generously invited her to his wedding and told her she didn’t need to prepare a red envelope.

On his wedding day, he drunkenly disclosed the truth, saying that Xiao Yu had gotten fatter during school, and he would’ve split up with her earlier if he didn’t want to sleep with her, finding her more and more nauseating by the day. Xiao Yu was standing right behind him at that moment.

And this woman said: If it weren’t for Xiao Yu having some money and not needing their family’s support to attract girls, she wouldn’t have agreed to their relationship in the first place. It was only for the gifts he brought once a month, that and having a free housemaid who helped with housework and cooking, even if it was just for one day a month.

It was because of this woman’s words that Xiao Yu couldn’t stand it any longer and swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills. Fortunately, she was saved, and she moved on from it; her family and friends only resented on her behalf, forgetting all the past unhappiness. Other than that family leaving Xiao Yu’s life, everything else started moving in a positive direction.

Except for this woman.

She would show up in front of Xiao Yu every now and then, saying she’d run out of cosmetics or didn’t have enough clothes to wear, the new daughter-in-law couldn’t cook and needed to maintain her pregnancy. She didn’t mind if Xiao Yu became a concubine. Continuously reopening the wounds Xiao Yu tried to forcefully forget, she kept rubbing salt into them.

Seeing Xiao Yu indifferent, even spreading rumors that Xiao Yu used to sponge off her son, forcing Xiao Yu to resign from her job, move houses, and start over in another city.

Others might not recognize this woman, but she, Luo Qianqian, would never forget her in a lifetime!
