Strongest Lord by Opening Blind Boxes

Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Cavalry General, County Magistrate, Small Fireball

Kaiyuan County, Northwest, Qingliang Temple.

Qingliang Temple had long been abandoned and was usually deserted, but today it was quite lively.

It had become the temporary camp for the Red Tiger Camp. The temple grounds were teeming with soldiers, and the constant neighing of warhorses filled the air.

At this moment, two men were seated at a stone table in the center of the temple courtyard.

Both men were Player Lords.

One of them was the Commander of the Red Tiger Camp.

His name was Duan Hu. He was only twenty, handsome and dashing, with a B-grade Lord Talent: [War Beast Contract]. He had been a student at a sports university and had suddenly transmigrated while swimming and diving.

The other man was his university roommate, Qiao Meng.

Qiao Meng had transmigrated along with Duan Hu. He had chosen the identity of the Kaiyuan County Magistrate and now had the appearance of a 30-year-old. He even had three young, beautiful wives in his official residence, with a host of servants under him. One could say he had a happy family and a successful career.

His Lord Talent was an A-grade skill called [Avoid Battle]. He could actively use it to consume Chaos Energy and exempt himself from the next void invasion. The stronger the invasion, the more Chaos Energy it consumed. Qiao Meng had already used it to avoid three invasions.

Of course, by avoiding the void invasions, he also missed out on the system rewards for defending against them. As a result, Qiao Meng currently had only one functional building in his territory: the Heart of Chaos, which was placed in the back courtyard of the County Yamen.

The Heart of Chaos was a structure that all Chaos Lords received after the third wave of void invasions.

”Haha, Qiao Meng, take a look! The Black Mountain Stronghold’s info has been updated. They’ve added a new leader: the Feces Hall Master, Ma Changgui!”

Duan Hu suddenly burst out laughing. ”Haha, the guys at Black Mountain Stronghold sure know how to have fun. What does a Feces Hall Master manage? Hey, Qiao Meng, you’re just a Ninth-Grade County Magistrate in charge of this tiny little place. Isn’t that pretty much the same as managing a Feces Hall?”

Qiao Meng forced a smile and said nothing.

He had a weak personality. Before transmigration, his family wasn’t well-off, and he had long been a victim of Duan Hu’s psychological manipulation.

”Look at me. I’m a Standard Fourth-Grade Cavalry General now. I’m backed by the King Dongsheng’s Prince Mansion, and my territory is in the East Victory King’s Supervision Camp, protected by tens of thousands of troops for free. Impressive, huh?”

”Impressive, very impressive!” Qiao Meng nodded repeatedly. ”Brother Hu, your future is limitless. I’m content just being a County Magistrate here!”

”Look at you, you spineless wimp! We’re the Fourth Celestial Calamity, and you’re satisfied with being a mere County Magistrate? I can’t even be bothered to lecture you!”

Duan Hu glanced at Qiao Meng and continued, ”Right now, I’m the Commander-in-Chief of the Red Tiger Camp, and I’ve been ordered to wipe out the Black Mountain Stronghold. Those bandits have numbers and the advantage of terrain, while the Red Tiger Camp only has four hundred men. We urgently need to expand our forces. I told you to conscript soldiers. How’s that going?”

”I’ve already posted notices. The recruitment is underway!”

”It’s conscription, not recruitment! Get it straight!”

”Yes, yes, I’ll go urge them on!”

”Oh, right. I also need provisions and supplies. You’re the County Magistrate, so you must have extorted a fortune from the common folk. Your coffers must be full. You have to support me. When I get promoted, I’ll be your backer!”

Qiao Meng replied, ”I’ve already ordered people to prepare them. I’ll have them sent over tonight!”

”No need to send them. I’ll bring my men to pick them up myself. It’ll be a good chance to look around Kaiyuan County. I hear there’s a decent brothel in your county, called... Yixiang Tower? Let’s book the whole place. We’ll have a good time tonight, listen to some music...”

Qiao Meng gritted his teeth in frustration, but he didn’t dare spoil Duan Hu’s mood and nodded in agreement.

...

In Eggshell Village, the third Rock Giant Scorpion was sent into the Beast Cage.

Wang Yi looked at the crowd of onlookers and said, ”Alright, disperse. Everyone get back to your tasks.”

Just then, Yang Qingniu, Zhang Lengzi, and the other three members of the five-man Civilian Militia squad approached Wang Yi.

”Boss, you sent the Barbarian Guard and the two Rock Giant Scorpions away, so about that General’s Tomb instance...”

Yang Qingniu trailed off, hesitant to continue.

Jelena walked over at that moment, smiled sweetly, and said, ”I’ll be leading the team today. Let’s head out now. We’ll be quick.”

”Miss, we’re not going there to play around...”

Yang Qingniu, Zhang Lengzi, and the others looked questioningly at Wang Yi, clearly doubting Jelena’s abilities.

Wang Yi said, ”Go on. Jelena will be fine!”

With that, Wang Yi paid them no more mind. He started the Crossbow Machine Carriage, slammed the accelerator to the floor, and headed straight for the Floating Mountain.

The Floating Mountain was the Heart of Chaos. Wang Yi planned to park the Crossbow Machine Carriage on it to act as a turret, then pilot the mountain to fly and explore more of the map.

Exploring the map with the Crossbow Machine Carriage was no longer suitable in the wild, mountainous terrain with no paved roads.

Of course, before exploring, Wang Yi also had to direct Gegeda to build the Eggshell Money Shop, as he had promised Jelena.

Wang Yi followed the winding mountain road, struggling quite a bit to drive the Crossbow Machine Carriage to the summit, where he parked it in a relatively stable spot.

Next, he went to direct Gegeda to build the Eggshell Money Shop. By the time it was completed, the five members of the Civilian Militia and Jelena had already entered the General’s Tomb.

They were currently standing in the safe zone. Yang Qingniu pointed to the valley ahead and said, ”Miss, you see that mountain path? About a hundred meters down, as soon as we enter the valley, we’ll see the Skeleton Infantry. Those Skeleton Infantry are terrifying to look at. You’re so young, seeing them will definitely give you nightmares. Why don’t you let me carry you on my back?”

Jelena waved her hand. ”There’s no need, Captain Yang. Just lead the way. I’m not afraid!”

Zhang Lengzi added, ”Don’t worry, Miss. We’re not going to fight the Skeleton Infantry. We’ll just circle around them up ahead, get behind them, and fight the Skeleton General directly. Then we push over the Skeletal Banner, and the job’s done.”

”Oh, then let’s go.”

Jelena obediently followed behind Yang Qingniu and the others. Her calm and composed demeanor along the way secretly amazed them.

After circling to the rear of the valley, they spotted the Skeleton General. Yang Qingniu said, ”Miss, you can just stand here and watch. We’ll go up and fight the Skeleton General. Please don’t run around. If you get hurt, we won’t be able to answer for it!”

But Jelena asked, ”How do you plan to deal with the Skeleton General?”

Yang Qingniu explained, ”When Lord Man led the team before, the two Rock Giant Scorpions would tank at the front while he went up with his great spear to fight the Skeleton General head-on. The rest of us would go push the banner. But this time, Lord Man and the Rock Giant Scorpions aren’t here. So, me, Lengzi, and Fenqiu will go fight for our lives, while Mazha and Dazhuang push the banner...”

Jelena waved her hand, cutting Yang Qingniu off. ”No need for all that trouble. All of you go push the banner together. I’ll take care of that Skeleton General!”

With that, Jelena, who looked like a little girl, strode forward. As Yang Qingniu and the others watched in alarm, she raised her right hand toward the Skeleton General, blinked, and said, ”Small Fireball, launch!”

The next moment, a massive fireball, like a miniature sun, abruptly appeared.

The light was blinding. The five men from Yang Qingniu’s squad instinctively shielded their eyes as a rolling heatwave washed over them. It was followed by a thunderous BOOM, and the very ground shook.

”Holy mother, what was that?!”

Yang Qingniu and the others were shocked, completely unable to process what had happened. Zhang Dazhuang and Yang Mazha were so startled they fell and sat right on the ground.

”Yay, it’s over!”

Jelena’s voice snapped Yang Qingniu and the others back to reality.

They stared and saw that the spot where the Skeleton General had been was now a scorched black crater. The Skeleton General was gone, and only the General Armor, the Iron-Clad Bow, and a grape-sized black bead lay quietly on the ground.

”Hurry up and push the banner! Those Skeleton Infantry are coming! We need to hurry and start the second run!”

Jelena turned around with a sweet smile, then skipped forward to pick up the loot.

’Huh, what’s this? Could this be the Mysterious Item that Father said had a one-in-ten-thousand drop rate? I’ll put it away and take it back to Father. He’ll definitely know what it is!’

Jelena clutched the black bead dropped by the Skeleton General and turned to look at Yang Qingniu and the three others. Seeing them still standing there dumbfounded, she pouted and said, ”Why are you all still standing around?”

With that, she gave up on waiting for the four of them to push the Skeletal Banner. She raised her hand and tossed another ”Small Fireball.” With a BOOM, the banner fell, and a swirling vortex of light—the instance exit—quickly appeared.

”Hurry up, hurry up...”

Jelena called out, then was the first to run into the swirling light.

At that moment, Yang Qingniu got up and gave the stunned Hu Fenqiu two sharp slaps across the face.

The slaps knocked Hu Fenqiu out of his stupor. He cupped his face and said, ”Captain, what did you hit me for?”

”Damn, so it wasn’t a dream!” Yang Qingniu slapped his thigh. ”The Boss is an Immortal, so of course his child is an Immortal too! That was incredible!”

He immediately put his hands on his hips and yelled, ”You ignorant bumpkins, what are you still gawking for? Get moving! Let’s follow the Miss and run this a few more times!”
