The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 456: Chapter 456- Manticore

As one would expect of a genius knight, Stark quickly understood the gravity of the situation and the best method to go about it without even needing to be told.

”Hey, you lot, help us search for unusual things or occurrences in the capital. We need all the manpower we can gather...”

Before Stark could complete his sentence, low growls and unhidden bloodlust assaulted them.

Immediately, all the squires present turned towards the direction of the disturbance, only to find monsters spawning out of nowhere.

”Where did they come from?”

”Shit, they are Manticores!!”

A human face, lion’s body, and a scorpion’s tail. They were monsters that, according to the guilds and adventurers, were ranked A- Class. What’s more, there were three of them.

”The tower spawned them.”

Everyone looked at Kevin, who continued his explanation. ”The labyrinth of the Abyssal Compass is capable of trapping any enemy inside it forever. Once your strength and mind is corrupted, you will be turned into demonic beasts and demonified knights.”

”I see, was this also told by Sir Conrad?”

Kevin nodded his head awkwardly. Rather than the commander of the Knights of Enduring Spirit, he got this information from his sword. However, he couldn’t say that to them.

”There are three Manticores. I can take one. What about you?”

”I can take one too,” Kevin proposed the same.

”Then that leaves one more. Hey, you guys, can you handle one of the Manticores?”

At that question from Stark, the snobbish squires opened their eyes wide.

”You guys want to fight that? It’s an A- rank monster, you know. In a situation like this, we should all unanimously agree on running.”

”Indeed, Manticores are tough opponents for squires to face. However, if we run away, who will face them? Who will protect the citizens?”

The group of squires had nothing to say in return.

Seeing their pathetic states, Stark sighed before adding. ”Don’t worry, I am not asking you to defeat the Manticore. I’m only asking you to keep one busy while I finish the other.”

His words exuded confidence and a charisma that assured others.

Looking at that Stark, the group of squires felt ashamed. Is this the difference between a squire from the strongest order and them?

Having said everything he needed to, Stark then focused on the Manticores.

”[Heat Rend].” An extreme searing heat burst out of one of the swords in his hand and struck a Manticore, burning half of its face.

ROAAARR... The creature issued a piercing cry of fury and pain and then locked its one remaining eye on Stark. Just like his commander, he too was a dual sword style user. Though unlike the massive swords of Brutus, his were more of sleek longswords that had a curved design.

”Come here, you moggie.”

ROARR... Stark successfully managed to lure over a Manticore that had its sanity robbed, thanks to turning into a demonic beast.

Not wanting to be outdone, Kevin too used the sword technique he learned in the Temple of Light and lured a Manticore.

As for the remaining one, the cowardly squires gathered up their courage to fight in an encircle. In any case, they only had to keep it busy and had their work cut out for them.

ROARR... The Manticore issued a grating roar. Its claws swept around, gouging the earth and buildings alike. Its claws were so sharp that if one was not careful, they would be bisected into three halves, armor along.

Additionally, the creature’s claws were not the only thing one had to be careful of; there was also its scorpion tail.

Its sharp stinger could penetrate through even tempered steel, and its poison could melt anything.

Stark looked at the building that just suffered from the assault of its tail, melting from the corrosive poison.

A serious expression crossed his face. Against an opponent of such a high rank, he could not go easy. Stark brandished his swords that glowed bright red from the extreme heat of his skill.

The next moment, he sprang forward in a blur. ”[Heat Stride].”

The beauty of the skills and techniques imparted in the Order of the Blazing Sun was that they were all flame based and extremely hot. The [Heat Stride] that Stark just used reached a minimum heat of 900 °C.

It practically melted the ground, allowing him to glide through the stone road. Under the effects of the [Heat Stride], Stark was extremely fast. It was like adding nitrox to a car and pressing full acceleration.

The Manticore lunged, clawed and used its poisonous tail. However, all of its attacks were too slow. The squire had already slipped under it and reached the other end of the road while leaving a fiery trail behind.

Next, the squire made a rapid spin and jumped up. The flames from his blade and boots shuttled him up.

Finally, when he reached an ample height, he stopped exuding flames and looked at the Manticore below. At this height, the demonic beast could only roar at him in frustration.

”Phew... I have seen Commander Brutus perform this a thousand of times and burned it into my memories.”

BLAZE... The two swords in his hands erupted with powerful flames, the heat easily reaching over 3000 °C.

”[Phoenix Burst].”

SCREEE...

As he swung his sword in a full arc, a piercing cry resonated through the air, followed by the appearance of a flaming bird that drew a long, fiery trail and smashed into the monster below.

.

Half an hour later, Stark stood in front of the Manticore’s carcass and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

He thought that he could end the creature fast. However, it proved more resilient than he thought. In the end, it took him more time than he thought.

Right after, he glanced towards the area where the group of squires were struggling with the other Manticore. Well, more than fighting, they were just running around. Nevertheless, they kept their word and were doing their best to contain it.
