King of the Wilderness

Chapter 351: Chapter 217: Doing Scientific Research in the Wilderness? (10,000-Word Merged Chapter) (Part 2)

”In severe cases, it could induce acute pancreatitis, which is fatal in the wild. Some might suggest diluting it before consumption—is that okay? The answer is absolutely not.”

”Because apart from fat and protein, it also contains many complex substances tailored to polar bears’ unique physiological needs.”

”For instance, an ultra-high dose of taurine to support their special heart muscle and retina development, and certain trace elements and fatty acids that humans cannot effectively metabolize.”

”Even if diluted, these substances entering the human body would impose an irreversible metabolic burden on the liver and kidneys, posing immeasurable risks.”

”Therefore, this is lifesaving Jade Dew for December, but for humans, it’s a deadly poison. It’s essential to understand that the systems of every species in nature cannot be casually confused.”

The scientific explanation ends, and the milk is ready. He inverts the bottle, letting a few drops of milk drip onto the inside of his wrist; the temperature is just right.

Since the unboxing, December has been circling around him, entranced by the rich aroma of milk.

Now, seeing the bottle prepared, December immediately leaps over, its little head eagerly nuzzling his leg, emitting anxious ”aww” sounds from its throat.

Lin Yu’an sits down with a smile, cradling December in his arms, allowing it to lean against him in a semi-reclined, comfortable position.

Then he picks up the bottle, gently placing the blunt, round silicone nipple at the edge of December’s small mouth.

December immediately opens its mouth, clasping the nipple, and as the first mouthful of warm, fragrant milk flows into its mouth, it lets out a satisfied whimper.

It begins sucking forcefully and rhythmically, its little mouth like a powerful tiny pump. With each suck, the liquid level in the bottle visibly drops, releasing a string of tiny bubbles.

A small throat emits satisfied ”glug, glug” swallowing sounds. Its two front paws instinctively hug the bottle like a human baby.

The furry paws tightly press against the warm bottle, with the black claws occasionally scraping the silicone surface, making a slight scratching noise.

The tiny pads open and close, as if mimicking the milk stepping movement in a mother’s arms.

Its eyes comfortably narrow into slits, long eyelashes gently fluttering, its entire body gently rises and falls with the sucking motion, fully immersed in the happiness of feeding.

A continuous, motor-like ”mm-mm” sound of satisfaction issues deeply from its throat, and its whole body twitches slightly from overwhelming happiness.

Lin Yu’an looks at its adorable appearance, feeling a softness in his heart. One hand steadily supports the bottle, while the other gently strokes December’s back from top to bottom, helping it regulate its breathing.

The 250 ml of milk is quickly devoured by December. It hungrily sucks a few more times on the empty bottle, then releases its mouth, letting out a burp filled with the scent of milk.

With a full belly, sleepiness hits again; it doesn’t even have the energy to explore the big box, lazily yawning, showing a pink mouth and not yet fully grown baby teeth.

It skillfully climbs onto Lin Yu’an’s sleeping bag, where his body warmth and scent still linger. Finding a comfortable spot, it curls up into a ball and soon falls back into a dreamland.

Lin Yu’an looks at its little belly rising and falling, smiling with satisfaction.

Carefully dismantling the bottle again, he meticulously cleans it with a long-handled brush and water, then places it in the UVC sterilization box, preparing for the next meal.

After doing all this, he finally has time to prepare a belated breakfast for himself—a piece of leftover grilled fish from last night.

After eating a few bites of the cold grilled fish to recharge, Lin Yu’an begins preparing for today’s outing.

Having eaten to its fill, December lies on his sleeping bag, sleeping soundly with steady breathing.

This stage of the cub requires 18 to 20 hours of sleep daily for digestion and growth. This is his precious window for outdoor activities.

Yet he’s still worried, walking to the sleeping bag, bending down, and extending his hand to gently stroke the furry back of the little creature. The little thing murmurs contentedly in its sleep and turns over.

”December, I’m stepping out for a bit, I’ll be back soon.” He softly says to the sleeping little furball.

He opens the door, slips outside, and enters the snow-dominated white world.

Immediately, he firmly inserts a pre-set thick wooden bolt into the door’s groove and the deep pit on the ground from outside.

This outwardly secured bolt structure ensures the door is tightly shut, making it difficult to push open from the outside.

Although it cannot withstand a full-force attack from an adult brown bear, it can deal with most attempts from medium and small predators and prevent December from accidentally opening the door if it wakes.

The outdoor temperature is colder than he expected; the biting wind cuts like a knife across his face.

The sky is a leaden gray, indicating possibly unfavorable weather. He does not hesitate, briefly examines his bearings, and heads toward the lake.

The first destination is the under-ice fishing net set yesterday afternoon, quickly arriving at the familiar fishing spot at the lake’s center.

The ice hole covered by spruce branches and snow remains intact, not frozen solid overnight.

Using the end of a long spear, he pries open the covering, revealing the hole beneath with a layer of thin ice. With a homemade ice scoop, he removes the broken ice and begins slowly retrieving the net.
