King of the Wilderness

He picked up the hardwood pin that had been prepared long ago and walked to the first hinge.

First, he gently lifted the door panel a little, then inserted one end of the hinge pin horizontally into the square slot he had previously carved in the door frame post.

”Click!”

He then used a knife tip and a piece of stone to patiently carve a shallow groove on the stone base of the threshold.

This groove was meant to accommodate the stick at the bottom of the door panel serving as the support point.

Next, he dragged the heavy door panel to the front of the door frame, tilted it upright, allowing the top of the door panel to lean against the top beam of the door frame.

He crouched down, pressing his shoulder firmly against the door panel to prevent it from falling, while his hands began to work.

He used leverage to carefully pry up the bottom of the door panel, then precisely aligned and placed the protruding support stick at the bottom end of the ”Hinge Wood” into the groove on the stone base of the threshold.

With a ”thud,” the support point below was set.

Now, with this bottom support point as the pivot, the door panel leaned against the door frame. He only needed to push the door panel straight to align the hinge holes at the top with the bases on the door frame.

He began to slowly push the door panel upward, centimeter by centimeter, and the heavy door panel was effortlessly pushed upright by him!

At the moment the door panel stood completely straight, he immediately reached out a hand and wedged a prepared wooden wedge tightly into the gap between the door panel and the opposite door frame side, temporarily locking it in place.

He quickly went around to the outside of the door to inspect carefully. The hole slot on the top of the ”Hinge Wood” was perfectly aligned with the base on the door frame post, composed of a square groove and an L-shaped plank!

Now, it was time for the final step of securing the hinge.

He picked up the hardwood pin that had been prepared long ago and went to the hinge.

He aligned one end of the pin with the small hole on the L-shaped plank, then horizontally inserted it through.

The pin continued advancing, penetrating through the wide hole slot on the ”Hinge Wood” of the door panel, and finally, its end was securely inserted into the solid square groove on the door frame post.

He stepped forward and gently pushed the door panel.

The door, in an extremely stable posture, made a ”creak” as the wood rotated smoothly on the pin!

By dusk, he quickly crafted a heavy wooden crossbar and built two sturdy slots on the walls inside the door.

The camera filmed from inside the shelter, facing the entrance.

Lin Yu’an stood at the doorway, taking one last look at the icy, snowy world outside, then slowly pulled the door shut.

As the door closed, the dazzling light from outside was completely blocked, and the inside of the shelter instantly plunged into darkness, leaving only the warm, flickering firelight from the fireplace.

The howling wind and snow outside were also instantly muffled, becoming a distant, dull background noise!

He turned around and lifted the arm-thick wooden crossbar, then with a clang, inserted it steadily into the slots on the walls on both sides.

This sound marked the first time his fortress was truly isolated from the wilderness!

He leaned against the door, exhaling deeply, as an unprecedented sense of security enveloped his entire being.

He walked to the fireplace, facing the camera, a barely concealable smile on his face.

”Now, the shelter is officially complete!”
