Lin Yu’an picked up a mussel that was still a bit hot, pried the shell open a little more, blew on it, and put it in his mouth.

The intense freshness, mixed with the salty aroma of the sea, exploded on his taste buds instantly.

There was no complicated cooking, just the most original and pure salty and fresh taste of the food.

He scooped up a spoonful of milky white seaweed soup and drank it down.

The soup was slightly thickened by the gelatinous kelp, with a smooth texture and unparalleled savory taste.

”Mmm...”

He let out a satisfied sigh; this was the first hot meal he’d had since coming to this land, and the warm flow made him feel infinitely content!

He summarized to the camera: ”This is the first gift the Labrador Coastline has given me!”

”Protein, vitamins, minerals... all the nutrients I need most right now are in this pot.”

”However, blue mussels are very low in calories and almost fat-free; they can only serve as basic food.”

”I still need to quickly acquire food with fat, like fish or land mammals, as fat is the ultimate fuel against the cold here.”

After a brief rest, the more important task was to build a shelter that would allow him to safely spend the entire winter.

After finishing the delicious protein feast composed of mussels and kelp but lacking in fat, Lin Yu’an’s physical strength was greatly replenished.

He looked at the generous coastline before him, and a more grandiose plan quickly took shape in his mind.

”I solved the first meal, but that’s far from enough. Building a shelter that can withstand severe winter requires at least ten days of high-intensity physical labor.”

”If I have to spend a precious two hours every low tide to scurry for the next meal, my energy and time will be severely fragmented, and efficiency will be very low.”

He pointed to the vast coastline that was slowly inundated by the rising tide.

”So, before I officially start building a home, I need to first establish a food trust! Ensure that I can store food for 5-10 days at most.”

”I will use the next two to three days to continue to crazily gather resources in the intertidal zone during the daily low tide to establish a living food reserve that can sustain me for at least a week.

”Moreover, this trust must include both marine and terrestrial parts to ensure that even if one source fails, I still have a backup option.”

”Taking advantage of the fact that I can’t enter the intertidal zone during high tide is the perfect time to go into the inland forest to set the first batch of traps for my terrestrial hunting ground.”

”Only in this way can I devote myself wholeheartedly to construction in the coming days, with food supplies moved before the troops.”

After setting the goal, Lin Yu’an began another survival task for the day.

He took out the professional annealed steel wire tripwire and the Damascus Hunting Knife from his backpack and walked deep into the coniferous forest behind the shelter.

His goal was to look for signs of small mammals.

He did not wander aimlessly in the woods but entered a kind of ”tracking mode” like an experienced detective.

He slowed his pace, bent down, and scrutinized the ground like a radar, looking for clues.

Soon, under a low, extremely dense bush, in a muddy spot, he found the lead he was looking for.

”Found it!” He squatted down, pointing to the asymmetric footprints on the ground to the camera.

”Look, these are typical tracks of the Snowshoe Rabbit. Its hind feet are enormous, almost twice the size of the front feet, like wearing snow boots.”

”That’s why it’s called the Snowshoe Rabbit. These huge feet give it an unrivaled advantage when running in deep snow.”

He picked up some black, bean-sized round droppings: ”Very fresh, which means it just passed by this morning.”

The most crucial part was the path in the bushes, squeezed out thoroughly, only about ten centimeters wide, in front of the footprints.

”Snowshoe Rabbits have a very fixed habit; they are natural pathfinders who like to shuttle back and forth between feeding grounds and their nests along the same path among dense bushes.”

”These small paths, trampled and gnawed by them repeatedly, are called ’rabbit highways.’ This is where it is best to set up traps.”

He did not take any immediate action here but continued to cautiously explore forward along this ’rabbit highway,’ needing to find a perfect spot.

Finally, he stopped at a natural ”narrow gate” formed by two dense, almost adjacent branches of a spruce tree.

”This is the place.” He gestured with his hand.

”This spot is narrow enough, barely twenty centimeters wide. The rabbit has virtually no choice but to pass through the middle.”

”And look at the marks on the ground; this is the confluence of several highways. Setting up a trap here can greatly increase the success rate!”

Next, it was time to showcase his trap-making skills.

First, he used the back of the Damascus Hunting Knife to slightly clear the ground around this narrow gate without causing extensive damage.

Then, he cut a section of about 60 centimeters long steel wire from that roll of annealed steel wire tripwire.

He did not use it directly to make a lasso but first, with gloved hands, gently straightened and smoothed out the wire, eliminating the memory it had from being coiled.

This seemingly redundant step allows the lasso to tighten more smoothly and lethally when triggered.

Then, he began making the most crucial ”lock loop.”

At one end of the tripwire, he carefully wound it around a few times, forming a small circle with a diameter of about half a centimeter.

Next, he threaded the other end of the tripwire through this small circle, completing a freely sliding ”snare” that tightens the more it’s pulled.

He adjusted this snare to a diameter about the size of a fist.

”This size is set according to the neck and head size of a Snowshoe Rabbit.”

”Too big, and the rabbit might slip through or get its body caught, giving it a chance to struggle.”

”Too small, and its head won’t fit in. Only when it can snugly encircle its neck, tightening in the moment it struggles, is it the perfect lethal trap.”

Once the lasso was completed, it was time for the trap’s power system and trigger mechanism.

He selected a very elastic birch branch located above the ”narrow gate.”

He pulled the branch down forcefully, bending it into a tension-filled bow shape.

Then, he meticulously crafted a ”4-shaped” trigger mechanism on the ground with the hunting knife using three small sticks.

First, he carved a vertical, sharp-ended post and firmly planted it into the ground.

Next, he carved a horizontal beam with a groove on one end.

Finally, a diagonal support pole, with both ends carved into wedges.

He interlocked the three sticks together through ingenious grooves and angles.

Creating a structure in an extremely unstable, hair-trigger balance state.

He connected the bent birch branch to the trigger mechanism’s post with a length of tripwire.

Finally, he carefully tied the newly made steel loop to the horizontal beam of the trigger mechanism.

And hung it directly above the ”rabbit highway,” about four fingers off the ground.

He also broke off a few leafy twigs from nearby and cleverly inserted them on either side of the lasso, further narrowing the passage.

Forming a visual ”guide,” forcing the rabbit to pass directly under the deadly lasso.

He stepped back a few paces, looking at his work, nearly blending into the surrounding environment, and said with satisfaction, ”Okay, a classic ’elastic snare trap’ is finished.”

”Its working principle is very simple.” He demonstrated with a long branch to the camera.

”When a rabbit runs by, its chest or head will lightly touch the horizontal bar serving as the tripwire.”

He gently pushed the horizontal bar with a branch.

”Snap!”

A crisp sound! The entire 4-shaped mechanism collapsed in an instant!

The bent birch branch sprang back violently, and with enormous force, tightened the lasso instantly through the fishing line!

And sent the long branch, simulating prey, ”whoosh” into the air!

”See that?” Lin Yu’an pointed at the branch swaying in the air.

”That’s it, this ensures quick death of the prey, minimizing suffering.”

In the following hour, he set up three more similarly carefully camouflaged traps in the area in the same way.

An all-day ”passive food acquisition system” on land was already quietly working for him.

By tomorrow morning, there might be surprises waiting for him here!

After setting four almost undetectable elastic snare traps, it was already a little past two in the afternoon.

With several hours of precious daylight left before total darkness, Lin Yu’an did not choose to rest in the camp.

He had to make the most of every minute and second before winter came, becoming a master of time management to maximize his time and energy!

His exploration today wasn’t over; he needed to find more food sources.

Lin Yu’an checked the battery of the GoPro on his chest, with a hint of anticipation in his voice: ”Alright, folks, the land-based waiting trap system has started working.”

”Now, I’m going to patrol my domain to see what generous gifts this land has prepared for us. Food is always the priority.”

”Even though today’s main goal is plant resource exploration, in the wilderness, you never know what’s around the next corner.”

He patted the bow on his back: ”Bringing it along to handle potential dangers and not miss any fleeting opportunities.”

Lin Yu’an didn’t delve into the complex terrain and limited visibility of the dense forest; instead, he chose to slowly move along the broad shore of the freshwater lake.

This was a very wise strategy because the lakeshore is a junction of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, where species diversity is usually highest.

By early November in Labrador, the cold had seeped to the bone.

At the edge of the lake, the shallows had already formed a several-centimeter-thick sheet of ”skirt ice” that creaked underfoot due to the nighttime chill.

The birch leaves on the shore had long fallen, leaving only the bare white branches swaying in the cold wind.

His Sixth Sense gave him enough courage to explore; as he walked, he carefully observed everything around him,

Soon, when he rounded a boulder-strewn headland and came to a lee, extremely gentle-sloped bay, he stopped in his tracks.

The scene opened up before him: a vast wetland, where a stream flowing from inland joined the lake, forming extensive shallows.

And on the frost-covered tidal flats grew a large expanse of plants, withered but still standing strong!
