2. Equipment provided by the program team

”To ensure the absolute safety of all participants, the following [Safety and Emergency Equipment] will be provided uniformly by the program team. Participants are strictly forbidden to carry or modify these devices themselves, and they are prohibited from being used in any survival activities outside of emergency situations.”

Mountaineering backpack X1 set: Large capacity backpack.

Beast defense kit x 1 set: Bear spray, signal flare gun (with signal flares and noise flares).

Personal first aid kit x 1: Includes a list of 37 medical supplies.

Emergency communications and positioning x 1 set: Satellite phone, Personal Locator Beacon (PLB).

Filming and recording equipment x 1 set: HD sports camera, spare batteries, memory cards, etc.

Other emergency items x 3 pieces: Survival whistle, signal mirror, waterproof diary, and pencil.

Looking at this dense and restricted list, Aliya felt immense pressure.

She pointed to the screen and said, ”Oh my God, this is incredibly difficult! Among cutting tools, the axe, saw, and knife are almost essential, which makes three items.”

”For making fire and boiling water, a flint and pot must be brought, that’s two more items. I’ve already used up five slots!”

”In a damp and cold place like Labrador, a high-quality sleeping bag is key to survival, that’s another slot.”

”For food collection, fishing line and hooks or tripwire need to be chosen at least as one option, leaving only three slots left! Waterproof cloth, rope, whetstone, bow and arrows... there’s simply not enough choices!”

This is the greatest appeal of ”Alone in the Wilderness,” it tests not only the contestants’ wilderness survival skills.

It’s also their strategic decisions based on the understanding of the target environment before departure.

Aliya was feeling the headache from this tough choice, but she noticed Lin Yu’an was calmly looking at the list, his eyes not showing any hint of difficulty, instead flashing with an excitement.

He walked to the TV and said to Aliya, ”Darling, these equipment requirements are more detailed and stricter this time.”

”Darling, look.”

He first pointed to the [Seasoning: 1 pound of salt] option.

”The first time at Chilco Lake, I brought salt to replenish electrolytes, but this time, at the Labrador Coastline, the situation is completely different.”

”The sea is my inexhaustible salt mine. I only need to use my metal pot to repeatedly boil and evaporate seawater to easily obtain high-quality sea salt.”

Then Lin Yu’an’s finger pointed at the [Fishing Set] and [Tripwire] options.

”The fisheries resources are extremely rich on the Labrador Coast and inland rivers and lakes. This 270 meters of fishing line and 25 hooks can not only be used for hand fishing, I can also use them to make a longline, laying down multiple hooks at once for passive fishing.”

”As for the tripwire, I can choose annealed steel tripwire, extremely soft allowing me to create the most sensitive trap lasso to reliably capture snowshoe hare and grouse. It is my most reliable protein guarantee on land.”

”This time, because the placement is early winter, the time is pressing, so from the start, I’m not planning to hunt large game. My focus for food acquisition will be on small animals.”

”And I have a hunch that the program team will choose a place where large game resources aren’t as abundant.”

”So relying on fishing in water, and lasso on land, combining active and passive methods, this is my food strategy this time.”

”Therefore, my choice is very simple.”

Lin Yu’an picked up a pen and wrote down his final decision in the notebook:

1. Sleeping bag: Western Mountaineering MF -40°C

2. Saw: Agawa Canyon Boreal24 frame saw

3. Survival knife: Ace No. 6

4. Metal pot: MSR Seagull 1.9-liter stainless steel pot

5. Magnesium rod: Light My Fire (army version)

6. Axe: Gränsfors Scandinavian Forest Axe

7. Fishing set: 270 meters of 8-strand Dyneema PE braided line, 25 Gamma Kaze Octopus Hooks of different sizes.

8. Waterproof cloth: Aqua Quest, 3.6x3.6 meters heavy-duty waterproof cloth

9. Tripwire: Professional grade No. 22 annealed steel wire

10. Recurved bow and arrow set: Samick Sage traditional recurve bow + 9 carbon arrows (equipped with interchangeable G5 hunting arrowheads)

After choosing the equipment, he looked at Aliya and said, ”Darling, the next few days you might have to take care of the kids alone.”

”I need to go to Fairbanks to get all the equipment fully procured.”

”No problem, go ahead, make sure to choose the best equipment, don’t be afraid of the cost.” Aliya gave him a supportive hug.

Early the next morning, Lin Yu’an drove his Ford Excursion SUV, embarking on the road to Fairbanks.

The first stop after arriving in Fairbanks was a large chain outdoor equipment store to purchase basic clothing and high-top cold-resistant water boots.

Then he went to a Archaeopteryx brand flagship store located in the high-end commercial area of the city center, with a very design-conscious interior.

He walked into the store and directly said to the manager, ”I need your most experienced equipment consultant; I have a long procurement list.”

In the VIP reception room, Lin Yu’an took out the program team’s clothing procurement list.

The equipment consultant looked like a well-experienced middle-aged man in his forties.

Looking at the extremely strict requirements on the list, he nodded: ”Sir, your requirements are very professional. To meet all these conditions, our brand’s top Alpha and Beta series can meet them, but the price is quite high.”
