Chapter 2773: Chapter 2773: Angelica Lee Was Arrested

Angelica Lee quickly snatched a designer cardigan from a nearby chair, draped it gracefully over her silk nightwear to compose herself, and slowly pulled the door open.

The tactical team leader immediately took an imposing step forward into the doorway.

”You are Angelica Lee?” The leader asked, his voice flat and devoid of emotion.

”Yes.” Angelica Lee answered, nodding with practised composure despite the cold knot of dread tightening in her chest. ”May I ask why the People Security Bureau is standing outside my private residence at this ungodly hour?”

The team leader looked directly into her eyes, unrolling an official document before reading the contents aloud with chilling precision.

”Angelica Lee, you are hereby placed into immediate state custody for formal processing regarding multiple felony charges, including high-level human trafficking, mass child abduction, illegal false imprisonment, organised criminal conspiracy, and facilitating illicit human experimentation. If you attempt to resist arrest, flee, or destroy potential evidence, our officers are fully authorised to use all necessary physical force, including deadly force if required. Please cooperate.” The leader spoke.

The moment he finished reciting the legal notice, he gave a crisp nod to the two officers flanking his sides. They immediately stepped forward, bringing out a pair of heavy steel handcuffs.

”What? No! Get your hands off me!” Angelica Lee’s composure broke instantly, and she instinctively tried to slam the heavy door shut in their faces.

Unfortunately for her, the veteran tactical officers had fully anticipated her exact reaction. One officer immediately wedged his heavy steel-toed combat boot firmly into the gap between the door and the frame. Another shoved the door wide open with overwhelming physical force, sending her stumbling backwards into the foyer.

Before Angelica Lee could even retreat two steps, two officers grabbed her, pinning her against the entrance wall. Her arms were forcibly yanked behind her back, and the cold steel teeth of the handcuffs clicked tightly around her wrists.

”You can’t arrest me! I have rights! There has to be some massive, insane misunderstanding!” Angelica Lee tried to speak up.

Angelica Lee thrashed and struggled fiercely against their grip. However, the officers remained entirely expressionless, expertly locking her down throughout the entire physical restraint process.

The loud commotion quickly attracted the attention of the surrounding high-society residents on the floor. One heavy apartment door creaked open. Then another.

Soon, several high-profile neighbours were cautiously peeking out into the hallway. They were left utterly paralysed with shock to see Angelica Lee, the universally renowned, brilliant young heiress of the Lee Family empire, standing in her doorway, bound in handcuffs, surrounded by an armed military squad.

Even though none of them had ever interacted with her beyond polite nods in the elevator, virtually everyone living in the ultra-exclusive complex knew her face. She was widely recognised as the Lee Family’s most capable successor, the brilliant strategist openly groomed to inherit the entire corporate empire after her father. No one in their wildest dreams had ever imagined witnessing someone of her elite status being dragged out of her penthouse in handcuffs in the middle of the night. Hushed, panicked whispers immediately rippled through the onlookers in the corridor.

”What on earth happened?”

”Why is the Lee Family heiress being taken down like a criminal?”

”Did the Lee Family do something illegal?”

”The People Security Bureau personally led the raid...”

”It must be something catastrophic.”

Completely ignoring the surrounding onlookers, the tactical officers escorted a fiercely struggling Angelica Lee down the private elevator toward the fleet of waiting transport vehicles idling downstairs.

One hour later, she was marched through the heavy iron gates of the central detention facility, the exact same high-security precinct where the rest of the Lee Family had already been locked away. The massive steel door of the primary holding block creaked open.

The moment Angelica Lee was shoved inside the central holding area, she stopped dead in her tracks, completely stunned by the sight before her. Every single familiar face from her inner circle was already there behind the iron bars.

The senior elders...

Her uncles...

Her cousins...

Even her patriarch grandfather...

”Ange!” Catherine Lee cried out the instant she spotted her daughter being marched down the aisle by the guards.

However, Angelica Lee merely cast a sharp, dismissive glance at her frantic mother before completely ignoring her. Instead, she walked directly toward the cell holding Albert Lee, her eyes burning with intensity.

”Grandfather, what on earth is going on here?” Angelica Lee demanded in a low, furious whisper. ”How did this happen?”

”I don’t know the full scope of the breach yet.” Albert Lee slowly shook his head, his stoic face looking years older under the harsh fluorescent lights. He paused, glancing around at the patrolling guards before lowering his voice to an almost imperceptible whisper. ”I deeply suspect... the state found out about our primary underground operations.”

Angelica Lee’s heart skipped a heavy beat, an ice-cold sensation flooding her veins. She immediately recalled the terrifying list of charges that had been read aloud during her dynamic arrest.

Human trafficking...

Child abduction...

Illegal false imprisonment...

Human experimentation...

Every single charge pointed directly toward the MicroTech Organisation’s secret operations and supply lines.

”How is that even mathematically possible?” Angelica Lee whispered, her mind racing at lightspeed. ”It should have been physically impossible for anyone outside our top security clearance to uncover that network, let alone gather actionable legal evidence!”

”Someone must have directly exposed us from the inside.” Albert Lee narrowed his eyes into razor-thin slits. His tone remained eerily calm, but the lethal gravity behind his words was impossible to miss. ”There is a very real, horrific possibility that someone inside our primary network betrayed us.”
