Pokémon: My Parallel World Daughters Revealed

Inside Pewter Gym...

Forrest stared at Raina with a complicated expression, the corner of his mouth twitching.

”Um... Raina, you can just call me Forrest. You don’t have to add ’Uncle.’”

”But you’re much older than me.”

Raina tilted her head.

”And you’re Uncle Brock’s younger brother, so shouldn’t I call you Uncle Forrest?”

Forrest turned toward Brock, his eyes clearly saying, Brock, please explain this to her.

Brock crossed his arms and replied expressionlessly:

”Don’t look at me. She called me Uncle too.”

Forrest: ”...”

Raina seemed to notice that something was wrong and cautiously asked:

”Um... Did I call you the wrong thing?”

Forrest took a deep breath and forced a smile.

”No, no. You can call me whatever you like.”

He then turned toward Brock.

”Brock, what about today’s Gym battle?”

”I’ll handle it,” Brock said.

Forrest froze.

”You will? Didn’t you say you normally wouldn’t interfere with the Gym?”

”Misty’s daughter is different.”

Brock walked toward the edge of the battlefield.

”You can watch from the side and learn something.”

Forrest opened his mouth as though he wanted to object, but ultimately shook his head with a smile. He then called out to everyone nearby:

”Hey! Someone’s here to challenge the Gym! My brother is personally taking the field, so everyone come and watch!”

The Gym instantly became lively.

[Brock]: That kid Forrest... Even in the parallel world, he’s still just as unreliable.

[Gary]: It appears that no matter the world, younger brothers enjoy watching their older brothers get put on the spot.

[Brock]: ...You’re right.

[Ash]: Brock, you’re going to battle personally! Are you nervous?

[Brock]: Why would I be nervous?

[Ash]: Because you’re battling Raina! She becomes a Water-type Elite Four member in the future!

[Brock]: That is in the future. Right now, she is only a ten-year-old girl.

[Daisy]: Brock, if you bully Raina, you’d better be careful. Misty might come all the way to Pewter City to settle the score with you.

[Brock]: How am I bullying her?! I’m only giving her guidance!

[Misty]: ...

[Brock]: H-Haha... Perhaps we should continue watching the video.

The video continued.

Inside the Gym, Brock stood on one side of the battlefield while Raina stood on the other.

Forrest took his position in the referee’s stand and waited for both sides to prepare.

”Raina,” Brock called.

”Yes!”

”Has your father ever taught you what is most important when facing Rock-type Pokémon?”

Raina thought for a moment before answering seriously:

”Don’t compete with them through brute force. Use the agility and type advantage of Water-type Pokémon to find the Rock-type Pokémon’s weaknesses.”

”What else?”

Raina tilted her head.

”...When in doubt, running away comes first?”

The corner of Brock’s mouth twitched.

”Did your father teach you that?”

Raina scratched her head in embarrassment.

”Mm-hmm... but Mom said he was teaching me nonsense and told me not to listen to him.”

[VIP Chat Group]

[Ash]: Hahahahaha! ”When in doubt, running away comes first”?!

[Gary]: ...What kind of parenting is that?

[Misty]: I told you he was unreliable! Now all of you can see it! What kind of nonsense has he been teaching our daughter?!

[Brock]: But... from a tactical perspective, he isn’t exactly wrong.

[Misty]: ??? Brock, what did you just say?

[Brock]: A strategic retreat is also a valid tactical decision! He doesn’t mean literally running away. It’s more about... assessing the situation and acting accordingly!

[Misty]: All right. You can stop talking now.

[Lorelei]: Hehe. Although Asher rarely sounds serious, the things he says often make a strange amount of sense once you think about them.

[Bruno]: Exactly! A truly strong person knows when to attack and when to retreat!

The video continued.

Brock cleared his throat and returned to the subject.

”What your father said... wasn’t completely wrong.”

Raina’s eyes lit up.

”Really?”

”But it wasn’t completely right either,” Brock added. ”When facing Rock-types, the most important thing isn’t running away. It is knowing where the rocks are coming from.”

Raina tilted her head.

”Huh?”

Brock removed a Poké Ball from his pocket and lightly tossed it forward.

A flash of red light appeared.

A Tyranitar materialized at the center of the battlefield. Its enormous body occupied nearly half the arena, while a fierce sandstorm immediately swept across the entire field.

”Rock-type attacks rarely travel in a single, straightforward line,” Brock explained, his voice becoming serious. ”Rock Throw, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb... The trajectories of these moves can all be predicted. As long as you can determine where the rocks will fall, you can find an opening and evade them.”

Raina stared up at Tyranitar, its enormous figure reflected in her golden eyes.

”But... it’s so huge...”

She swallowed nervously.

”Wouldn’t its attacks also cover an enormous area?”

”Correct.”

Brock nodded.

”That is why dodging alone isn’t enough.”

He raised one hand.

Tyranitar casually swept its tail, shattering a rock near the edge of the battlefield into fragments.

”Rock-type Pokémon possess tremendous strength and defense. Water-type moves may be super effective against them, but if your attacks aren’t powerful enough, they’ll feel no more threatening than a slight itch.”

Raina’s expression grew serious.

”Then... what should I do?”

Brock looked at her, the corners of his mouth rising slightly.

”What do you think?”

[VIP Chat Group]

[May]: Brock has started testing her!

[Lance]: This is what a proper Gym battle should be. It is not merely a fight, but an opportunity to guide the challenger into thinking about how victory can be achieved.

[Cynthia]: Brock’s method of guidance... is somewhat similar to Lucian’s.

[Lucian]: Hahaha. It truly does resemble my style.

[Diantha]: Cynthia, have you begun paying attention to such things as well?

[Cynthia]: Yes. Observing the teaching styles of different Trainers can be quite educational.

The video continued.

Raina lowered her gaze toward the Poké Balls attached to her waist before looking back up at Tyranitar.

Brock appeared to understand what she was thinking. He smiled and asked:

”Raina, do you know the purpose of a Gym battle?”

Raina paused and tilted her head in thought.

”...To test a Trainer’s strength?”

”That is part of it.”

Brock nodded.

”But more importantly, it allows challengers to see themselves clearly during battle—to understand what their Pokémon can and cannot do, and then discover the direction in which they need to grow.”

Brock smiled gently.

”So during this battle, all you need to do is believe in your Pokémon. Show me the strength of the bond between you and your partners!”

[Ash]: It’s starting! It’s starting!

[Gary]: Why are you so excited?

[Ash]: Of course I’m excited! This is a Gym battle!

[Gary]: You aren’t the one battling.

[Ash]: I can still be excited!

[Misty]: ...Could the two of you please be quiet?

[Lorelei]: Hehe. Misty, are you nervous?

[Misty]: Why would I be nervous?

[Lorelei]: Because it’s your daughter battling.

[Misty]: ...A little.

[Daisy]: Hahaha! So this is how it feels to be a mother!

[Misty]: Daisy, could you stop laughing?!

[Daisy]: All right, all right. I’ll stop.

[Daisy]: ...Pfft.

[Misty]: ...
