Chapter 6671: Netherworld God Bestowment

Before Chu Feng and the others could enter the Nine Heavens Secret Domain’s entrance, the Netherworld Sect had already received Jie Tianran’s notice.

Six elders were seated side by side in the innermost depths of the Netherworld Sect’s hall.

One was the 1.5-meter-tall, hunched old man, Cang Li.

One was the 10-meter-tall, brawny old man, Lie Shan.

The remaining four had similar physiques. Their hair had all turned white, and all of them kept long beards. They were Ting Yun, Lang Kun, Qiu Feng, and Hao Lei.

They were the six elders of the Netherworld Sect’s neutral faction.

The other five elders were all indebted to Ting Yun, so he commanded the greatest say in the group.

“Jie Tianran has sent a message saying that the phenomenon is related to Chu Feng. He’s telling us to seal off the phenomenon and ambush Chu Feng no matter the cost. What are your thoughts about this?” Ting Yun asked.

Gathered beneath the six neutral elders were the Netherworld Marshals. Due to Dongfang Hansong’s absence, the only one in the group who commanded the same influence as the six neutral elders was Baili Xukong.

That said, Baili Xukong and Dongfang Hansong still addressed the six neutral elders with utmost respect.

“Milord, Chu Feng is our mortal enemy, and the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion is our ally. Jie Tianran has no reason to deceive us. There is no need for consideration. We should devote our full force to taking down Chu Feng,” Baili Xukong said.

“I heard you have already dispatched personnel to construct a formation?” Cang Li asked. His face was still pale as he hadn’t fully recovered.

“Lord Cang Li, I don’t know where Jie Tianran got the news from, but I don’t think he would carelessly disseminate such important information without verifying it. Considering Chu Feng’s means, I believe that we should make preparations as soon as possible, lest he slip into the phenomenon before we can even react. I’m doing this out of consideration for the Netherworld Sect. Is there any problem with that?” Baili Xukong asked.

His opinion of Cang Li had dropped after the latter opposed him every step of the way, resulting in his attitude being less respectful than before.

“That might be true under normal circumstances, but surely you aren’t so dense as to be ignorant about the current situation, right?” Ting Yun asked. He raised his hand to reveal the black bracelet on his wrist.

A vine had extended from the black bracelet and embedded itself in Ting Yun’s flesh.

Everyone in the hall who had used the black bracelet to awaken the sacred item revealed conflicted looks, except for Baili Xukong. They knew that the bracelet had not just encroached on their flesh but their souls as well.

“Milord, didn’t we know from the start that there’s a backlash from using the bracelets?” Baili Xukong asked.

“The backlash is more severe than we expected. This thing has encroached on not just our bodies but our souls as well. This is not just a backlash; something else is at play. Or are you telling me that you don’t see anything odd about this situation?” Ting Yun asked.

They had been using the black bracelets to awaken the sacred item. They did make progress, but the changes in the bracelets worried them.

On top of that, Cang Li had been reiterating that Jie Tianran was not trustworthy. This sowed doubts in their minds.

“Milord, the bracelets’ energy might have seeped into our bodies, but we can sever it. We have only refrained from doing so because the bracelets will lose their effectiveness afterward,” Baili Xukong replied.

His words were also true. Those present felt that they could sever their connection with the bracelets right away if they wanted to. In fact, some had tried it, but the black bracelets would crumble right after.

On top of that, the backlash immediately struck at the moment of its shattering.

It wasn’t severe enough to cause death, but it was still not to be underestimated.

“Elders, as the saying goes, ‘Don’t use those whom you doubt, and don’t doubt those whom you use.’ If you believe that Jie Tianran is untrustworthy, we can terminate our partnership with him right now. However, I won’t participate in the awakening of the sacred item anymore. You’ll have to figure out a way to awaken the sacred item on your own,” Baili Xukong said.

“Baili Xukong, are you threatening us now?”

A furious roar reminiscent of that from a ferocious beast shook the hall. It was from another neutral elder, Lie Shan. He was a man of few words, but he had an explosive temper.

“Lord Lie Shan, I am not threatening you but making my stance known. Why do you think I ventured into the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion alone to strike a deal with Jie Tianran? I don’t get anything out of this. I am merely driven by my loyalty to the Netherworld Sect.

“You can see for yourself whether Jie Tianran has contributed to the awakening of our sacred item. If not for him, we would have been powerless when Chu Feng tried to take control of our sacred item. The sacred item is now on the verge of awakening, but you still harbor doubt at this critical moment. You aren’t just doubting Jie Tianran but me as well,” Baili Xukong said.

“Milords, I have been wanting to say this for a while now. If you don’t trust Lord Baili Xukong, you should figure out a solution yourself!” Xiahou Jue slammed the table and stood up.

“Sit down! You have no place to speak here!” Baili Xukong unleashed his oppressive might, forcing Xiahou Jue back into his seat.

Xiahou Jue and the other members of the new faction remained displeased despite Baili Xukong’s order for them to step down. They were only loyal to Baili Xukong.

“Baili Xukong, we don’t trust Jie Tianran, but we trust you. I ask you not to overthink our concerns. It’s just that you want us to channel the Netherworld God Bestowment to ambush Chu Feng.

“The Netherworld God Bestowment is a powerful illusory formation that can be used to curb traitors, but its true purpose is to strengthen the Netherworld Embryo. It’s simply that very few people have been able to withstand its prowess. We can only channel it three more times now. It’s one thing if Chu Feng comes, but if he doesn’t, we would be squandering a chance,” Ting Yun revealed the true reason behind his hesitation.

If they truly doubted Jie Tianran, they would have already taken off the black bracelets. What they were really concerned about was the Netherworld God Bestowment.

The Netherworld God Bestowment used the Netherworld Embryo as a medium to drag an individual into an illusory formation. It was a powerful formation that practically curbed anyone who possessed a Netherworld Embryo. Furthermore, it spanned a huge area, so it was the perfect weapon to use against Chu Feng.

However, it was extremely difficult to channel. Failure could result in not just severe injuries, but loss of cultivation and even death.

The six neutral elders had once channeled it under the Netherworld Master’s guidance, but the process had been so fraught with danger that they dared not do it a second time despite having succeeded then.

It was too risky.
