Chapter 6634: Verifying the Matter

“Chu Feng?”

Dongfang Hansong’s face warped in shock. He took a closer look at the side-profile portrait of the Netherworld Master, only to lurch in shock right away.

Indeed, there was a striking resemblance between Chu Feng and the Netherworld Master’s side profile.

“What are you insinuating, Lord Cang Li?” Dongfang Hansong asked.

He had an ominous feeling about this. He was hoping for Cang Li to refute his conjecture. Otherwise, this would be completely insane!

“Think about Chu Feng’s grasp of the Netherworld Embryo and his ability to make use of our sacred item. Do you really think those are coincidences?” Cang Li asked.

Dongfang Hansong’s complexion turned awful. Sweat trickled down his face. He was hoping for Cang Li to refute him, but the latter’s response only made him more nervous. He thought more deeply about this matter, and goosebumps covered his body.

“Lord Cang Li, you can’t think that Chu Feng is Lord Netherworld Master’s descendant, do you?” Dongfang Hansong voiced his deduction.

“To be honest, that is precisely what I’m thinking. You told me that you don’t think Baili Zilin was the one who triggered the red clouds phenomenon at the Netherworld Embryo Spirituality Summoning Altar. Baili Zilin could have easily proved himself by stepping onto the altar again, but he kept finding reasons not to do so. He obviously has a guilty conscience,” Cang Li said.

Dongfang Hansong knew that Cang Li wouldn’t mention this matter for no reason.

“Lord Cang Li, do you think that Chu Feng was the one who induced the phenomenon, but Baili Zilin claimed the credit for that?” Dongfang Hansong asked.

“Yes, that is what I’m thinking. No one from our Netherworld Sect has the means to trigger the red clouds phenomenon. Baili Zilin claims that he was the one who induced it, but he refuses to prove it. Judging by circumstantial evidence, I am inclined to believe that an outsider might be behind it.

“We know that Chu Feng possesses a Netherworld Embryo, and his control over it far surpasses any of us. Also, I suspect that the sacred item, as well as the formation and the treasures to awaken it, are all left behind by Lord Netherworld Master.

“Otherwise, don’t you think that it’s too much of a coincidence for the sacred item to surface from the Undying Starfield right after the red clouds phenomenon was triggered? I don’t know about you, but I’m inclined to believe that both things are connected,” Cang Li said.

“This...”

Dongfang Hansong was so shaken up that he began sweating profusely. Even his breathing became labored. This was not just an empty guess; it was a reasonable deduction.

“Lord Cang Li, even if Chu Feng really induced the red clouds phenomenon and is Lord Netherworld Master’s descendant, we have no way to prove that. Baili Xukong and the others won’t believe us,” Dongfang Hansong said.

“Lord Netherworld Master didn’t want to leave any traces behind back then, but sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Once, I sustained severe injuries during a campaign against the Ancient Era’s races. Lord Netherworld Master placed a recovery treasure inside my body and personally channeled it to help me recover.

“Due to the recovery treasure’s unique nature, there are traces of Lord Netherworld Master’s bloodline aura lingering on it. I have refrained from extracting his bloodline aura because I dared not, and I thought that it would be disrespectful to him.

“Our Netherworld Sect may appear strong on the surface, but threats are lurking in all directions. Jie Tianran has set his eyes on us, and Baili Xukong’s ambitions are swelling. There is a chance that we might just implode on ourselves.

“It’s thanks to Lord Netherworld Master that we have come this far. It’s one thing for us to die, but we would be letting him down after everything he has done for us. So, I tried to extract his bloodline aura from the recovery treasure despite the risk of death. It could be because heaven was looking after me, but I succeeded,” Cang Li said as he took out a transparent bottle.

The bottle contained an extremely faint aura.

“Is this... Lord Netherworld Master’s bloodline aura?” Dongfang Hansong looked at the aura reverently as if it were something holy.

“Mmhm.” Cang Li nodded.

“Lord Cang Li, you incurred those injuries from extracting this whiff of bloodline aura?” Dongfang Hansong asked.

“That’s right.”

“What do you intend to do with the aura? Look for Chu Feng?”

“I, personally, harbor no enmity toward Chu Feng, but there is a deep-seated grudge between him and our Netherworld Sect now. Even if Chu Feng allows me to verify his relationship with Lord Netherworld Master, what if I am wrong? That would be a huge farce. It’s one thing for me to be embarrassed, but I’d be bringing shame to the Netherworld Sect as well.”

“Indeed.”

“I thought about visiting Chu Feng’s homeland. Going by age, Chu Feng’s father can’t be Lord Netherworld Master, but it is possible that Chu Feng’s grandfather, a man named Chu Hanxian, is.

“If I could find a portrait of Chu Feng’s grandfather when he was younger, I could compare him with Lord Netherworld Master’s side profile. Also, since that was the place where he lived, there might be traces of his bloodline aura lying around. That would be concrete proof that no one can refute.

“The problem is that I am in a terrible condition now, as you can see. I need to recuperate right away, or else my life will be in danger. However, this matter is also urgent. If Chu Feng truly is Lord Netherworld Master’s descendant, we have to verify it as soon as possible, lest we commit an unforgivable mistake.

“Hansong, I called you here because I hope that you can handle this on my behalf,” Cang Li said.

“But I have to channel this thing to awaken the sacred item right now,” Dongfang Hansong said as he glanced at the two black bracelets on his wrists.

“I’ll tell the others you are handling something on my behalf. I’ll be the one to bear the consequences. Hansong, if Chu Feng truly is Lord Netherworld Master’s descendant, you’ll be making a huge contribution to the Netherworld Sect.

“If Chu Feng is willing to inherit the position of the Netherworld Master, you and your conservative faction will become his aides. The new faction won’t be able to compete with you anymore,” Cang Li said.

“Lord Cang Li, this matter is of grave importance. Can I take Elder Yun Ao with me?” Dongfang Hansong asked.

“Yun Ao? His loyalty toward the Netherworld Sect is unquestionable, but his cultivation is lacking. Are you sure you want to bring him along?” Cang Li asked.

“Lord Cang Li, it is because of how important this matter is that I wish to bring Yun Ao with me. His unwavering loyalty toward the sect will make him a credible witness. If Chu Feng truly is Lord Netherworld Master’s descendant, I’ll need someone trustworthy to corroborate my claim. He’ll be essential to convincing the other lords.

“I reckon that Baili Xukong will refute whatever evidence we have and fight us to the bitter end, so we’ll have to win over as many people as possible,” Dongfang Hansong said.
