”I’m not looking anymore. My eyes are tired after reviewing so many documents this morning,” Mayor Ji Mingyang said as he put aside the file Bai Xiaosheng had given him, and smiled at Bai, ”Since you’re already here, you might as well tell us about it.”

”I want to hear it too!” Zhang Meng said urgently.

Ji Mingyang was not one to easily state his position, but once he did, it was hard to change his mind.

The document from Bai Xiaosheng must have sparked his great interest, which is why he uncharacteristically voiced his opinion after only reading a little more than a page.

At this point, Zhang Meng had no way to persuade Mayor Ji to give up, and likely couldn’t, so he could only follow along and listen. If there were any inappropriate points, he could point them out on the spot, perhaps convincing the Mayor to reassess and even have Bai Xiaosheng revise them.

”Alright, since you want to hear it, I’ll tell you,” Bai Xiaosheng said with a smile.

”Let’s go over there,” Ji Mingyang gestured towards the sofa area with a nod of his head, and then asked Zhang Meng to summon Secretary Zhang to bring a pot of tea, preparing to listen attentively.

Zhang Meng hurried off to take care of it, settling everything within minutes.

He also instructed the secretary to stand guard at the door, not allowing anyone to disturb them.

Eventually, the three of them sat down in the sofa area.

Bai Xiaosheng pondered for a moment, organized his thoughts, and said with a smile to Ji Mingyang and Zhang Meng, ”Our Zhongjing Media is a company focused on media and entertainment. Whether it’s the company’s positioning or the reforms I’m now implementing, we emphasize the media aspect even more. Our application for the provincial-level benchmark enterprise status is also based on this point.”

Ji Mingyang nodded slightly.

Bai Xiaosheng started talking about his company and then changed the subject, ”The media industry is developing rapidly nowadays, with new media, new technologies, and new methods involving public participation. The provincial government really values this industry! And this year, advocating industrialization and innovative growth has been a consistent theme, even selecting benchmark enterprises in various industries. It’s clear that the province values industrialization and innovation, and our industry should particularly highlight these two points!”

Bai Xiaosheng’s perspective had risen to the industry level.

”You’re setting the bar too high!” Zhang Meng couldn’t help but say.

Bai Xiaosheng looked at him and smiled, ”Secretary Zhang, to become a provincial-level benchmark enterprise, we must set our sights high and delve deep. We need to hit these critical points!”

”I agree with this statement!” Mayor Ji Mingyang nodded, showing great interest, ”Sheng, continue!”

Since Bai Xiaosheng’s words made sense and the Mayor affirmed them, Zhang Meng had nothing to say.

”To overtake on a curve, Zhongjing Media and Tianzheng Media from Langbei City might submit for evaluation one after another. Regardless of who goes first or last, whether the leadership cares intentionally or not, there will be comparisons made, and that will be an important part of the impression we make! If we cannot be stronger in other aspects, we should make our highlights more noticeable. We need to try something unique and bold!” Bai Xiaosheng declared.

”As bold as you mentioned in the document... If there’s a problem, we could be completely passive!” Zhang Meng couldn’t help but say.

He worried about Bai Xiaosheng’s overambitious steps. The bigger the strides, the harder the fall, and less secure the outcome.

The young man was full of vigor, and Zhang Meng felt he had to offer some counsel.

”Zhang Meng, don’t rush to disagree. Let Sheng continue. You’ve read the document, but I haven’t yet. Let me hear this ’boldness’ you speak of, then we can discuss,” Mayor Ji Mingyang said with a smile.

Zhang Meng nodded in agreement.

”As I was saying about industrialization and innovation, there’s another point: they must be actionable! They must truly serve Zhongjing’s economy, not just a concept!” Bai Xiaosheng continued.

”That makes sense!” Ji Mingyang nodded, indicating his agreement.

Zhang Meng gave a bitter smile.

My mayor, please don’t keep cheering him on. You haven’t even seen what he plans to do next!

Just now, Zhang Meng had read more of the document than Mayor Ji Mingyang. The implementation content proposed by Bai Xiaosheng was what alarmed him the most!

”How can we make the media industry an important link in Zhongjing’s industrial chain development? We need you and the entire city to undertake a bold endeavor!” Bai Xiaosheng stated, looking intently at Ji Mingyang, ”This time, I want to use Zhongjing Media as a chess piece, treating the whole city as the chessboard, to play a big game!”

”Go on!”

Ji Mingyang couldn’t help but sit up straight, his eyes sparkling as he watched Bai Xiaosheng.

He too was now intrigued. The page of thought he had read had given the battle-hardened Mayor a whiff of something extraordinary.

This could potentially impact the entire city of Zhongjing, the future economic center.

Ji Mingyang had this feeling.

”I’m thinking of Zhongjing Media as the core, uniting TV stations, radio stations, the internet, and a social media alliance, with the government as the rallying force, gathering into one voice!”

”I want Zhongjing to also present our own benchmark enterprise as the alliance’s first ’client,’ using the power of media to become nationally famous, attract investments, promote local industry development, and propel Zhongjing’s economy!”

”I want to incorporate scientific research entities and data analysis institutions into the larger system to aid the development of the media industry and, in turn, publicize and make Zhongjing a well-known name!”

”I want to make Zhongjing a city of media, industry, innovation, and scientific research!”

...

One by one, Bai Xiaosheng’s ideas were voiced, and even Ji Mingyang couldn’t help but be taken aback.

The ambition was undeniably grand.

”These starting points and goals are good! But what about time? What about cost? We still need to be realistic!” Zhang Meng said as he saw Ji Mingyang’s eyes aglow, knowing the Mayor was also giving it thought and quickly tried to douse the excitement.

We can’t aim too high!

We need to focus on the present!

Perhaps Bai Xiaosheng’s words were beautiful, but they required a massive investment and many years.

They didn’t have the time, as the provincial benchmark enterprise application only had a few months of review period.

”All of these things you’ve mentioned, I want to try them!” Ji Mingyang couldn’t help but say.

Turning a place into a nationally recognized entity, real-life success stories abound, like Huadu, the Gourmet Capital!

Bai Xiaosheng’s idea was to make Zhongjing a city surrounded by numerous calling cards and halos.

He wanted Zhongjing to become a national benchmark city!

And this perfectly aligned with Mayor Ji Mingyang’s own ideals!

”The above is my grand strategy. Next, I will mention what we need to do in the near term!” Bai Xiaosheng smiled.

Zhang Meng had also not seen the end of the document!

”Firstly, I need policy support, covering...”

”Secondly, I need you to preside over a few meetings, which are...”

”Thirdly, I need government leadership to guide us...”

Bai Xiaosheng laid it out one by one.

He really dared to dream and to ask!

Zhang Meng was astonished.

Now he was setting tasks for the Mayor...

”All of these, carried out simultaneously, should take about a week! Let’s conduct a city-wide initiative of innovation, crossover, and integration! Let’s try out a new innovative model. For publicity, we’ll focus on Zhongjing Media as the core, leveraging our strength as the media benchmark. We will showcase all of this to the provincial leadership!” Bai Xiaosheng declared.

”Let’s do it!” Mayor Ji Mingyang exclaimed, slapping the table.

He too was getting excited!
