Walker Of The Worlds

Chapter 3811: First Night At The Wild Peak

Most sects maintained rigid housing assignments and disciples lived according to rank. Elders occupied designated areas and permissions were required to wander around as records were maintained.

But the Wild Peak seemed completely unconcerned with such things. If a disciple wanted a room, they found one. If they wanted to move somewhere else, they moved. If they wanted to live halfway up a cliff, nobody stopped them.

And if they wanted to build a hut in the forest, nobody cared.

The only real rule seemed to be not destroying someone else’s home and even that sounded negotiable.

As they walked, Fang Lei pointed toward a large stone structure. ”That’s the wardrobe.”

Little Bull tilted his head. ”The wardrobe?”

”Yeah.” The disciple opened the doors.

Lin Mu expected to see storage shelves, instead he felt momentarily stunned. The building was enormous as shelf after shelf extended into the distance. And each packed with folded robes.

White robes, black robes, blue robes, gray robes, heavy training robes, formal robes, light robes and they were in the thousands, tens of thousands. Maybe hundreds of thousands or perhaps more.

Lin Mu quickly estimated there were at least a million robes stored inside and every size imaginable was represented. The sight reminded him of military supply depots.

Little Bull stared. ”So many clothes.”

Fang Lei nodded. ”We go through them quickly.”

”Really?”

The disciple looked confused. ”Of course.”

He pointed toward a group of body cultivators wrestling outside even at this time. One accidentally threw another through a stone wall, the wall collapsed and the disciple stood up laughing.

But his robe had been completely shredded.

A servant immediately handed him another set.

”Oh.” Little Bull understood.

Or rather Lin Mu certainly did.

Body cultivation and clothing had always maintained a hostile relationship. Before obtaining the Silver Mirage Circlet, he had personally gone through countless robes. Later he had simply begun buying them in bulk, thousands at a time.

But the illusion created by the circlet solved most of those problems. Even if his real clothing was damaged beneath, the illusion remained intact. Here, the Wild Peak had apparently reached the same conclusion.

Why repair robes when one could simply keep mountains of replacements?

Fang Lei pointed toward the shelves. ”Take whatever fits.”

Little Bull nodded, then he asked if there was anything else he needed to know.

But in response, the disciple yawned. ”Tomorrow.”

”Tomorrow?”

”Yeah.” He waved lazily. ”Figure it out tomorrow. It’s sleeping time.”

And with that, Fang Lei left, leaving Little Bull alone.

Lin Mu could only shake his head internally. ’This place is truly different.’

After wandering for a short while, he selected a building near the edge of the settlement. The structure contained over a hundred rooms spread across several floors and most stood empty.

Only a handful showed signs of occupancy.

Upon looking around, Lin Mu determined that less than ten disciples appeared to live here. The rest remained vacant. Little Bull eventually chose a room on the highest floor, specifically, a corner room.

Several factors influenced the decision.

The rooms beneath it were empty. The adjacent rooms were empty. The corridor nearby saw little traffic. Most importantly, it offered excellent access for covert movement and a wide window overlooked the forests while the walls connected directly into the mountain itself.

If necessary, Lin Mu could disappear without anyone noticing.

The room itself was simple, a bed, a table, several chairs, and a couple of storage cabinets. It was nothing luxurious or fancy like most inner court disciple residences but it was certainly practical.

Perfectly suitable for a disciple of Wild Peak.

Little Bull stretched and pretended to sleep as an hour passed. The mountain gradually quieted as some disciples continued training while others drank. Some even hunted nocturnal beasts, and the majority settled into their own routines.

Eventually Lin Mu opened his eyes as his expression changed instantly. The simple and clueless Little Bull vanished and in place of it, the calm and focused Lin Mu emerged.

Without hesitation he activated the ring as spatial fluctuations rippled around him. Then his body sank directly into the floor with Phase.

The technique functioned perfectly as stone offered no resistance, neither did wood and nor earth. Lin Mu descended through multiple floors before entering the mountain itself. Then he began moving carefully.

The first thing he checked was the surrounding formations. Most sects possessed barrier arrays designed specifically to prevent infiltration. But Wild Peak appeared surprisingly relaxed in this regard.

Lin Mu moved through the earth for several minutes and nothing stopped him. There were no barriers, no spatial restriction, no detection array and not even some basic warning formations.

He eventually emerged partially from the stone and looked around.

’Interesting.’ he thought.

Most formations stopped Phase immediately.

The absence of such measures suggested either confidence or carelessness. Knowing the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect, Lin Mu doubted it was carelessness. After all, this entire world belonged to them.

There were no enemy sects, no hostile armies and most certainly no invading cultivators. Anyone reaching this place already existed deep within sect territory and as such the danger level was simply different.

Beasts existed of course, yet even they seemed to avoid the settlement naturally despite there being no beast repelling array. Though Lin Mu reckoned there might have been one and had probably been damaged enough times, the sect thought it was best to just not repair it anymore.

Lin Mu spent the next hour quietly exploring as the mountain proved far larger than expected. Buildings appeared hidden throughout the forests, courtyards occupied cliff sides, training grounds existed inside valleys and small lakes and waterfalls dotted the landscape.

Many disciples lived surprisingly far apart.

The feast had created the illusion of a densely populated community, but the reality proved different. The ten thousand members of Wild Peak were scattered throughout an enormous mountain range.

Many occupied isolated residences, some lived inside caves, and others built homes near beast territories. Several maintained training grounds kilometers away from everyone else.
