Walker Of The Worlds

Chapter 3803: No Pity, Only Nostalgia

The surrounding disciples pretended not to listen to the Elder’s words.

Though in reality, every single one of them was paying attention. Most of them had recognized High Elder Shatter Peak immediately. And many possessed their own stories about him.

These were stories that had long since become legends within the sect.

One disciple whispered to another. ”Remember Senior Brother Han?”

The other nodded. ”The one that got blown through a wall?”

”That wasn’t even intentional.” The second disciple shuddered.

Apparently several years ago, High Elder Shatter Peak had sneezed during a gathering. The resulting shockwave had sent fifteen disciples flying. Thankfully none were injured, though several walls had required repairs afterward.

Another disciple quietly joined the conversation. ”My master said he once slapped a mosquito.”

The others looked over. ”What happened?”

The disciple lowered his voice. ”The mosquito died.”

The others stared. ”And?”

”The wall behind it exploded.”

Several disciples immediately nodded as that sounded believable. And there were many such stories, some were exaggerated but some were surprisingly accurate.

One thing remained constant, nobody wanted to be too close to High Elder Shatter Peak if it could be avoided. Not because they feared being attacked though as the giant wasn’t known for bullying weaker disciples.

The problem was that he was simply too strong and accidents happened around him.

Lots of accidents.

Back at the serving counters, several servants looked pale and the moment Shatter Peak sat down, panic spread among them. One younger servant nearly dropped an entire tray while another looked ready to cry.

Thankfully a senior servant quickly smacked the back of his head. ”Move!”

”B-but it’s him!”

”I know who it is!”

”What if he gets angry?”

”He won’t.”

”What if he does?”

”Then we’ll all die later. Move!”

The younger servant hurried away and soon orders that had been prepared for other tables were immediately redirected. Within minutes, food began arriving; massive trays, huge bowls, and entire platters full of roasted beast meat, immortal grain rice, spirit vegetables, soups, stews, breads and a lot of fruits.

The food accumulated rapidly and Little Bull’s eyes brightened. The giant observed him closely. The more he watched, the happier he became as Little Bull didn’t hesitate, act refined or care about appearances at all

He simply ate with enthusiasm. The kind of enthusiasm only genuine body cultivators possessed.

The giant laughed. ”You fit Wild Peak perfectly.”

Little Bull looked up while chewing. ”Really?”

”Absolutely.” The giant pointed at the disappearing food. ”Look at that.”

Little Bull blinked. ”What?”

”You don’t even need to be taught.”

Little Bull appeared confused. ”Taught what?”

”How to eat.”

The young man stared. ”People need to learn that?”

The giant nodded seriously. ”They do.”

Little Bull seemed genuinely shocked.

The giant sighed dramatically. ”You’d be surprised.”

He picked up an entire roasted beast leg and began to speak. ”Some disciples barely eat anything.”

Little Bull frowned. ”How much?”

The giant spoke as if describing a tragedy. ”Two or three barrels of Immortal Grain Rice.”

Little Bull looked horrified.

The giant continued. ”And maybe a hundred kilograms of beast meat.”

The surrounding disciples nearly spat out blood.

A hundred kilograms? Barely anything?

Several servants exchanged looks and they weren’t sure whether to laugh or cry.

Little Bull however nodded thoughtfully. ”That is so little.”

The giant’s eyes brightened. ”Exactly!”

The surrounding disciples wanted to scream. That amount could feed entire groups of immortals. Yet these two seemed to consider it starvation.

The giant finally began eating as well and the hall witnessed something terrifying.

Food started disappearing very fast.

Trays arrived and trays vanished. Bowls emptied and platters disappeared so fast that the servants began sweating.

One actually started running.

After a while, the giant leaned back while his eyes remained fixed on Little Bull.

”So.”

Little Bull looked up. ”So?”

”Tell me about yourself.”

Little Bull swallowed a large piece of meat. ”I’m Little Bull.”

The giant nodded patiently. ”What before that?”

Little Bull thought.

Then shook his head. ”Don’t know.”

The giant waited as Little Bull continued. ”I woke up in Honey God Village when I was little.”

The giant listened. ”No parents?”

Little Bull shook his head. ”No.”

”No family?”

”No.”

The giant remained silent.

Little Bull continued eating. ”The villagers raised me.”

The giant nodded slowly.

Then Little Bull spoke again. ”I forgot lots of things recently too.”

”The cliff?”

Little Bull nodded. ”I kept falling.”

The giant stared. ”And climbing back up.”

Little Bull nodded again. ”And falling again.”

Another nod. The giant suddenly laughed, deeply.

It was a laugh filled with strange nostalgia.

Little Bull tilted his head. ”What?”

The giant stared into the distance and for a moment his usual loud personality seemed to quiet down.

Then he spoke. ”You know...”

His voice became softer. ”I was an orphan too.”

Little Bull blinked as the giant continued. ”I don’t remember my parents.”

The young man listened carefully.

”I don’t remember where I came from.” A faint smile appeared on the giant’s face. ”I remember being hungry.”

Little Bull immediately nodded.

The giant laughed. ”Very hungry.”

That answer made perfect sense to Little Bull.

The giant leaned back. ”My village wasn’t much different from yours.”

Little Bull seemed interested. ”You had villagers too?”

”I did.”

”Were they nice?”

The giant was quiet for a few seconds.

Then he nodded. ”They were.”

A strange expression appeared on his face, one that Little Bull had not seen before.

It almost looked... fond.

No pity or sympathy, not even sadness, just old memories. That was why the giant didn’t pity Little Bull. Unlike many others, he wasn’t looking at a tragic orphan. He was looking at someone who reminded him of himself.

Someone simple and strong.

Someone who had survived through stubbornness alone.

The more he listened, the more convinced he became that this disciple belonged in Wild Peak.

Not because of his strong physique and talent, even if those things mattered. There was another reason. Little Bull possessed the same straightforward nature many body cultivators valued.

He wasn’t obsessed with schemes. He wasn’t concerned with status. And he most certainly didn’t care about politics.

He simply wanted food, a place to belong, and enough strength to deal with problems.

The giant looked at the young man stuffing food into his mouth as a huge grin spread across his face.

”Yep.”

Little Bull looked up. ”What?”

”You really are perfect for Wild Peak.”

Little Bull nodded. ”Good.”

Then he pointed toward another tray. ”Can I have that too?”

High Elder Shatter Peak burst into laughter once more.

For the first time in many years, he felt that recruiting this disciple might turn out to be the best thing that had happened to him in a very long time.
