Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying

Chapter 353: Chapter 58: Professor Hagrid’s Progress

The incident where Malfoy and Harry were scratched by the Hippogriff was ultimately treated as a typical classroom accident.

When Malfoy no longer insisted on pressing charges, such minor matters hardly counted for anything at Hogwarts, but Professor McGonagall still criticized Hagrid for being too reckless in class, saying he shouldn’t have started with such a dangerous creature.

”So I thought, Flöbo Caterpillars might be a good idea.” Hagrid said, reflecting on his mistakes: ”And I just happened to find a nest, which I was initially going to give to Argo as a snack...”

”Pff—” Leian spat out his tea, coughing and said in shock: ”What? What did you say?”

”Flöbo Caterpillars!” Hagrid didn’t understand why he was so excited and explained, ”They’re a toothless worm, completely harmless little things.”

”I know... but...”

Leian looked at Vid, who raised an eyebrow at him and then said:

”We hope to continue with the Hippogriff next class, Professor Hagrid. Gryffindor and Slytherin had this class, and we didn’t. It’s not fair.”

”But it’s dangerous...” Hagrid said hesitantly.

”Haven’t you already figured out how to ensure safety?” Michael said plainly: ”Besides, no one wants to see any Flöbo Caterpillar. You’ll be hated by all the students that way.”

In fact, Michael usually spoke diplomatically, but he realized that with this new professor, he had to be direct, so he would listen.

Hagrid still couldn’t make up his mind: ”If a student is afraid of Buckbeak and angers them...”

”Why not have some non-dangerous little things ready? Like Tree-Protector Lofa?” Vid said: ”Those who want an adventure can have an adventure, and those who don’t want to can play with the little creatures.”

”Can I do that...?” Hagrid asked uncertainly.

”Of course you can!” Michael said confidently: ”Everyone will definitely love it!”

Hagrid, though a professor, had just obtained the position and made a mistake, was in a period of severe lack of confidence and was easily persuaded.

”Alright... alright... I’ll try as you suggested...” Hagrid said nervously.

Michael and the others cheered instantly, and Vid smiled as well.

The Care of Magical Creatures Lessons would last at least three years, and to avoid dealing with caterpillars and Fanged Flyers for those three years, he actively helped solve this incident.

Fortunately, Hagrid was not stubborn despite his age and knowledge of Magical Creatures, and he humbly accepted the students’ suggestions.

Later, after Michael and the others left, Hagrid sought out Vid and invited him to his house.

”Thank you, Vid.”

Hagrid said, ”I knew that Malfoy originally wasn’t going to let me and Buckbeak off... His father is very influential, could make the Ministry of Magic listen to him... But you convinced him... You really saved me...”

Hagrid said while sniffing and wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.

”Don’t say that, Hagrid.”

Vid said, ”If Malfoy got injured in Transfiguration Class or Magic Potion Class, he wouldn’t make such a fuss. What’s more, he made the mistake first... I just don’t want him to use this method to drive away an excellent teacher.”

Hagrid felt a bit ashamed and sighed, ”Sigh... I, I’m hardly an excellent teacher... I made students get hurt on the first class...”

”Have some confidence, you’re not the only one.”

Vid patted his arm and comforted, ”Neville broke his arm on the first flying lesson and got covered in boils on the first Magic Potion Class, yet Madam Hooch and Professor Snape didn’t feel inferior because of it!”

Hagrid couldn’t help but laugh: ”Don’t let them know you said that... Haha... But I do feel much better. By the way, I have something for you.”

He stood up, adjusted the oil lamp he’d accidentally bumped with his head, then took an old box from the nearby cabinet, wiped the dust off it, and handed it to Vid.

”What’s this?” Vid asked curiously.

”Picked it up while patrolling the Forbidden Forest.”

Hagrid sat down, poked the fire with tongs, where a tin kettle was boiling over it.

He said, ”There are scales fallen from Nobeta, a Unicorn’s tail hair, and a Poison Horned Beast’s horn and such. I remembered these can be used as Alchemy Materials, so I collected them for you, thinking I’d give them to you someday.”

Indeed, he initially planned to give this as a Christmas present but brought it out now in excitement.

Vid opened the box and saw the neatly arranged materials inside, pursing his lips slightly.

These materials would take Hagrid a long time to collect.

Like the Poison Horned Beast, a beast as big as a rhino, with horns storing explosive liquid, very dangerous.

And the Unicorn’s tail hair is more precious than regular hair, not to mention if the sacred creature’s hair is violently pulled, though it won’t carry a curse, using it for medicine or Alchemy may have issues.

The best materials are, of course, willingly given by the Unicorn, but the tail hairs bought on the market can’t guarantee this.

Hagrid seems boorish and careless, but when he sincerely cares for others, he can be more considerate than anyone else.

Just like in the first year when he collected old photos of the Potters to make an album for Harry.

Vid accepted the box without saying anything to repay, just said: ”Thank you, Hagrid, I really like it.”

Hagrid showed a brilliant smile.

On Tuesday afternoon, Vid went to the staff room to ask questions and saw Hagrid holding a self-bound thick parchment notebook, consulting with Professor McGonagall on how to be a good teacher.

”Sometimes listening to what the students suggest isn’t a bad thing, they know what they want.”

Professor McGonagall said: ”But you need to come up with specific workable methods, be confident, Hagrid. Your knowledge is abundant, you just need to learn how to pass it on to students.”

Hagrid nodded seriously and wrote it down word by word in the notebook.

Professor McGonagall saw Vid and smiled, saying: ”When you don’t know what to do, you can ask Vid and Hermione—they are excellent students and can surely give you the best advice.”

Hagrid nodded: ”I will.”

After a setback, Hagrid was clearly working towards becoming a good teacher.

He stumbled in fields he wasn’t adept in, and his writing on parchment was all over the place, with many misspelled words.

But whenever he wanted to give up and muddle through, the image of Vid who helped him without worrying about offending Malfoy, Michael looking forward to the next class, and Harry who still defended him even after getting injured, would appear in his mind.

He knew he had to try his best to do well.
