This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The man looked at Du Heng’s calm demeanor and was taken aback himself.

Could it be true?

He glanced at his wife, who was clutching her belly, and doubt began to rise in his heart.

Should he take his wife for a checkup first? Anyway, I have the evidence; they won’t be able to get away.

Having made up his mind, he helped his wife up, looked at the people inside the consultation desk, and muttered, ”You just wait.” Then he escorted his wife out.

Unexpectedly, Du Heng suddenly stopped the man. ”Wait a moment.”

The man turned to look at Du Heng and sneered contemptuously. ”What, are you scared now? Want to apologize? Too late! After my wife has been examined, I’ll use the evidence to sue you until you’re dead.”

”You’re mistaken,” Du Heng said.

”I’m mistaken? Aren’t you apologizing?”

Du Heng shook his head. ”No.”

”Then why did you stop me?” the man demanded.

Du Heng spoke earnestly, ”You’re sick.”

Wei Kaida grew anxious and quickly pulled Du Heng back. His family could resolve this quietly once the man left, provided he didn’t make a scene now. They’d just need to use their connections and spend some money. They had done this before; they were familiar with the process! But with Du Heng’s words, the difficulty had skyrocketed, meaning they would have to spend a lot more money.

The man looked incredulously at Du Heng. ”What did you just say?”

”You’re sick.”

”You’re the one who’s fucking sick!”

The man was completely enraged. He was no longer planning to report or sue; he wanted to teach this insolent bastard a lesson right now. He let go of his wife and rushed forward, his fist raised.

Du Heng didn’t panic at all, calmly watching the incoming fist. ”If you dare to hit me, I dare to lie down. We’ll see who’s in the right then.” As he spoke, he had already poised himself to fall to the ground.

The man skidded to an abrupt halt.

He had never seen anyone so shameless.

Seeing that the man had stopped, Du Heng stood upright again. ”Don’t get me wrong. You really are sick. I’m not lying to you.”

The man’s face flushed red, then pale, and his breathing became much more rapid.

”Don’t get angry. Let me take your pulse. This time it’s free. How about that?”

The man’s eyes were gloomy as he stared hatefully at Du Heng. Then, he actually sat down on the stool in front of the consultation table and placed his hand on the pulse diagnosis spot. Once again, he pulled out his mobile phone and, with one hand, started recording a video.

He didn’t speak, but his intention was obvious. Come on, I’m ready to ruin you guys.

Du Heng wasn’t intimidated. He calmly sat down opposite the man and began the pulse diagnosis. This time, Du Heng just took the pulse, staring at the man’s face without saying anything.

A minute later, Du Heng casually remarked, ”There’s a tumor in your left lung.”

This is bad!

That single thought flashed through the minds of everyone present, from Wei Kaida’s group to the gawking crowd.

”Fucking hell!” the man roared, throwing his mobile phone aside and scrambling directly onto the table.

I have to teach Du Heng a lesson today! This kid is a real piece of work!

”Calm down, calm down!”

Onlookers behind him hurriedly held the man back. From the front, Wei Kaida also pressed down on his shoulders.

Wei Kaida, thoroughly panicked, hurriedly shouted, ”Ma Ti’er, quickly apologize to this gentleman!”

Wei Kaida’s father’s expression darkened. He hadn’t expected Du Heng to be so reckless; he had misjudged him.

But Du Heng remained unflustered. He calmly stepped back, lightly patted his white gown, and said, ”As I said earlier, we can’t run away. The place is here, and the people are here. Go get it checked. I’ll be waiting here for you all afternoon. If I’m wrong, I’ll kowtow and apologize. Or, tell me what compensation you want, and I’ll pay it.”

The man shook off everyone’s hands and, pointing at Du Heng, snarled, ”I’ll make you eat shit! You fucking wait!”

The man then helped his wife leave.

The onlookers all began to blame Du Heng.

”You’re too reckless, young doctor,” was one of the more subtle accusations.

”Why did you provoke them? You might feel good now, but you’ve made Dr. Wei suffer,” came from someone who clearly disapproved of Du Heng.

Du Heng didn’t want to listen to their nagging. He grinned and said, ”Everyone, we’ll find out the truth this afternoon. You’re all welcome to come back then. For now, let’s disperse. We’re all busy, aren’t we?”

The crowd dispersed, and the clinic immediately fell silent.

Wei Kaida’s father walked back with a dark face.

He didn’t care anymore. This was Du Heng’s problem. If Du Heng wanted to dig his own grave, so be it. Besides, Du Heng didn’t belong to his clinic; if anything happened, Du Heng would have to deal with it himself.

Wei Kaida’s sister hesitated, glanced at Du Heng, sighed, and went out to check on the patient receiving an infusion. With so many people and so much chaos earlier, they had forgotten about him.

Wei Kaida felt like a deflated balloon. Du Heng was doing all this to clean up his mess and stand up for him, but looking at Du Heng, he didn’t know what to say.

”You were too impulsive.”

”Don’t worry, it’s fine.”

”What do you mean, it’s fine? You told him he has a tumor in his lung! Isn’t that like cursing him?”

Du Heng chuckled. ”He does have a tumor in his lung.”

Wei Kaida looked at Du Heng, who was being stubborn as a mule, and said helplessly, ”Stop talking nonsense. He’s perfectly fine.”

”Perfectly fine? How can you tell?”

”Well, what’s wrong with him then?”

”Haven’t you noticed he has a terribly bad temper and is very prone to anger?”

”So what if he just has a bad temper? Is that so strange?”

”You have no observation skills at all! Inspection, auscultation, inquiry, and palpation—the four diagnostic methods of traditional Chinese medicine—you haven’t learned a thing! What a waste of all those good teachers you had.”

Wei Kaida pursed his lips. ”Alright, you tell me.”

”This man speaks very rudely, yet he can also be very careful when helping his wife.”

”Helping his wife? Isn’t that what he should do?”

”He gets angry very easily, but he can also suppress it almost immediately. That’s highly unusual. When I just took his pulse, I found his liver Qi is deficient with hyperactive fire, and his lung meridian is obstructed. When I got close, I could hear a slight, turbid sound in his throat.”

Disbelief flickered in Wei Kaida’s eyes. ”Are you sure?”

”Of course. When have you ever known me to lie?”

”I mean, are you sure he has a tumor?”

”No shit.”

”That’s good then.” Wei Kaida managed a slight smile, but the worry in his eyes was hard to conceal.

He didn’t actually believe Du Heng could diagnose a tumor just by checking the pulse. He himself was a TCM practitioner; although not highly skilled, he had some understanding of traditional Chinese medicine.

Wei Kaida fell silent, and Du Heng also sat down.

He had never felt this exhilarated before. No wonder some people loved to show off; it turned out that showing off and ’face-slapping’ was such a satisfying experience. He used to think that showing off and ’face-slapping’ was rather foolish. But when you actually did it, you realized it was a very pleasant and satisfying experience, something that left both mind and body feeling utterly refreshed and at ease.

Du Heng now desperately wished for time to pass more quickly. He couldn’t wait to see the man’s ashamed and humiliated expression. He was already fantasizing about what kind of pose he should strike, what expression he should wear to appear classy. Perhaps he should even pretentiously say something like, ’This is a doctor’s duty. We are all here to serve the people, and our patients’ health is our greatest happiness.’

However, these fantasies gradually lost their appeal as time wore on.

Du Heng waited. Wei Kaida and his father waited. The old men and women watching the commotion at the entrance also waited.

But night began to fall, and the sky darkened. Still, there was no sign of the couple, nor were there any calls or visits from relevant departments. An uneasy look started to spread across everyone’s faces.

First, there was skepticism, then astonishment.

Could it be that the young man had actually guessed right?
