This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wang Zhenzhen heard Du Heng’s last words.

Hearing Du Heng so openly admit he had a girlfriend and decisively reject Li Nating, the anger in Wang Zhenzhen’s heart vanished with the wind.

Watching Du Heng quickly catch up, she teased, ”You answered so decisively. Aren’t you afraid of hurting the girl’s heart?”

Du Heng chuckled nonchalantly. ”You misunderstood, sis. There’s nothing between us, so how could there be any heartache?”

Wang Zhenzhen didn’t buy it. She glanced back at Li Nating, who was still glaring at their retreating figures, and said mockingly, ”Look at how wronged this beautiful girl looks, and you still say it’s nothing between you?”

”Really, there’s nothing.”

Du Heng’s response was as firm as ever.

Wang Zhenzhen smiled and didn’t dwell on the issue, lightly changing the topic.

As for Li Nating, still standing behind them, she could continue standing there if she wanted; it had nothing to do with Wang Zhenzhen.

The house Wang Shuqiu rented wasn’t far from her workplace. It was an old-fashioned, brick-concrete apartment building.

It was a cramped, two-bedroom place.

The entrance was a narrow corridor, only allowing one person to pass, about five or six meters long.

To the right of the corridor was a relatively larger bedroom. On the left, the first door led to the kitchen, the second to the bathroom, and at the very end was a very small bedroom.

The lighting in the apartment wasn’t very good either; the whole space seemed rather dim.

When Du Heng first saw this apartment, he couldn’t quite believe this was where Wang Shuqiu lived.

It was hard to imagine that proud, fashionable girl living in such a place.

Never mind other comparisons; the conditions here were genuinely not as good as his own dormitory.

However, although the apartment was simple, the atmosphere was very warm when the two of them were together.

Especially when Wang Shuqiu was busy in the kitchen and the aroma of food filled the rooms, there was even a sense of satisfaction.

Du Heng wasn’t the only one who felt this way; Wang Shuqiu did too.

She rarely cooked, but ever since Du Heng moved in, she would buy groceries and cook dinner herself every day after work.

Humming a song, chopping vegetables, waiting for Du Heng to return so they could eat together.

The loneliness she used to feel coming home alone had long since vanished, replaced by anticipation and happiness.

They ate dinner together, watched TV, scrolled through videos, and shared the joys of their work. Then, they would go to sleep peacefully, awaiting the arrival of a new day.

She was completely captivated by this feeling.

When Du Heng and Wang Zhenzhen entered the apartment, Wang Shuqiu was already making a racket in the kitchen.

Wang Zhenzhen, surprised, looked into the kitchen. She knew very well what kind of person her cousin was.

She never expected someone whose fingers never touched household chores, someone who used to bring her dirty clothes to *my* place to be washed, to actually be in the kitchen cooking. And not only that, but humming a song and clearly enjoying it.

Du Heng took off his coat, intending to help in the kitchen, but both Wang Zhenzhen and Wang Shuqiu shooed him away. ”You go rest. This tiny space can’t even accommodate you; if you come in, there won’t even be room to stand.”

”Yeah, don’t come in and be a hindrance.”

Seeing the two sisters whispering with their heads together, Du Heng tactfully retreated to the larger bedroom.

The larger bedroom on the right also doubled as a living room. Of course, they ate their meals there too.

The two sisters chatted happily, giggles erupting from time to time. This didn’t slow down their cooking, however, and the meal was soon on the table.

After dinner, Wang Zhenzhen, not wanting to be a third wheel, promptly left, leaving Du Heng and Wang Shuqiu to clean up together.

At this moment, Du Heng smiled as he watched Wang Shuqiu clearing the bowls, and Wang Shuqiu smiled as she watched Du Heng wiping the table.

”Du, I told my mom about you.” Just as the two of them finished cleaning up and sat down on the sofa, Wang Shuqiu dropped a significant piece of news on Du Heng.

”You told her so soon?” Du Heng was somewhat dumbfounded. They had officially been together for less than a week, and she had already informed her parents. This speed caught him off guard.

Du Heng’s dumbfounded reaction made Wang Shuqiu, who had been in a perfectly good mood, feel her heart drop. ”What do you mean by that? Don’t you want my parents to know?”

”No, that’s not it. I’m just surprised you told your family so quickly. I didn’t expect it.”

”Du Heng.” Wang Shuqiu stood up, her expression serious yet tinged with a hint of grievance. ”Before I got together with you, I was a chaste girl. When I agreed to be with you, it was with marriage in mind.”

Du Heng hadn’t expected his casual remark to provoke such a strong reaction from Wang Shuqiu. Seeing the look on her face, he quickly pulled her into his arms. ”I’m definitely aiming for marriage too! I didn’t say anything to imply otherwise, so why such a strong reaction?”

Hearing Du Heng’s words, Wang Shuqiu nestled into his embrace. ”You’re not my first love, but you are my first man. If you dare deceive me, I swear I’ll fight you to the death.”

”I won’t, I definitely won’t. I swear.”

Du Heng felt a twinge of a toothache and also immense pressure.

Moreover, this pressure felt somewhat inexplicable.

He thought such traditional girls were extinct; he never imagined he’d actually meet one.

Wang Shuqiu’s attitude softened a little. She snuggled deeper into Du Heng’s embrace and said, ”My mom said she wants to meet you.”

Du Heng was taken aback again by another lightning-fast development.

However, he quickly put on a smile and said, ”Really? That’s great! When?”

Then, feeling his response was inadequate, he quickly added, ”No, wait. It’s not right for your parents to come see me. I should be the one to visit your aunt and uncle. And while I’m at it, I’ll ask them how they raised such an outstanding daughter like you.”

Wang Shuqiu blushed at the compliment. She also felt respected by Du Heng’s willingness to take the initiative to visit her parents.

”Ask your aunt and uncle when they’re free. I’ll go to your home to pay my respects to the two elders.”

”Alright, I’ll ask my mom.”

Wang Shuqiu agreed happily, but then she looked up and asked with a hint of uncertainty, ”Are you really willing to go to my house?”

”Of course! Absolutely!” At this point, Du Heng knew he couldn’t show any hesitation.

”You’re so nice.” Wang Shuqiu pressed herself against Du Heng’s chest and hugged his waist tightly.

Nice in what way? Du Heng himself didn’t know.

He let out a quiet sigh, feeling a little awkward in his heart.

Besides, everything Wang Shuqiu was saying now revolved around what her mother wanted or what her mother thought. This implied her mother was the decision-maker in the family, which made Du Heng’s heart pound with unease.

In his limited experience, families where the woman was in charge usually meant she was quite dominant. And such dominant mothers were often difficult to deal with, typically being very self-centered.

Leaning back on the sofa, Du Heng silently prayed that his assumptions were wrong. He hoped even more fervently that he would encounter a mother-in-law who was reasonable and easy to get along with.
