This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wang Shuqiu’s mother couldn’t understand, rubbing her throbbing head.

Although she knew her future son-in-law was a doctor, she didn’t ask Du Heng, believing her brother wouldn’t lie to her.

Of course, Du Heng wouldn’t take the initiative to say anything either.

Frankly speaking, his identity today was just a guest.

A guest speaking out of turn was not only impolite, but it could also offend people.

Wang Shuqiu’s mother was a bit embarrassed. ”Our family has no money now. Fangfang went to see a doctor today, and it was Qiuqiu and Xiao Du who took him.”

”Sister, you can’t neglect your nephew like this.”

”Sigh, I didn’t say I wouldn’t care.”

Du Heng listened to the conversation between the two of them and felt Wang Shuqiu trembling slightly beside him.

Wang Shuqiu’s mother thought for a moment and said, ”Alright, you guys think of a solution. When Qiuqiu gets her salary next month, I’ll help you out.”

Du Heng clenched Wang Shuqiu’s hand tightly. He almost dropped his jaw in shock.

Before he had time to think more, Wang Shuqiu suddenly stood up. ”Why should we use my salary?”

Her mother looked at Wang Shuqiu with a troubled expression. ”This is just lending it to your uncle. Your younger brother needs the money now, doesn’t he?”

”Lend it? That’s a nice way to put it. How much money have you lent them over the years? Since I can remember, you’ve been lending them money constantly, but have they ever paid it back even once?”

”Your uncle is in a difficult situation; he’ll pay it back when things are better.”

”Heh,” Wang Shuqiu let out a sarcastic laugh. ”As if they could ever pay back. It’s like throwing a meat bun at a dog – there’s no return.”

Her mother’s eyebrows tightened again. ”What a way to talk! So disrespectful. How about this: I’ll be the one borrowing it from you, alright?”

”No way.” Wang Shuqiu decided to go all out; she’d had more than enough of this uncle and aunt. ”You’re my mother. Why should you borrow money from me? If you want to borrow, let’s settle the previous accounts first.”

Wang Shuqiu seems to be going crazy, Du Heng thought, secretly pulling her hand, but Wang Shuqiu didn’t appreciate it. ”I have a salary of 4,800 now, and in the three years I’ve been working, I send 1,500 home every month. Mom, tell me now, where did that money go?”

”You haven’t sent any money since the New Year.”

”Mom, don’t you know why I didn’t send money? I told you when I gave the money, it was for my younger brother’s medical expenses. But you guys? You only took him once.”

”That’s because your older cousin needed money for school.”

Her uncle and aunt also chimed in, ”That’s right, your older cousin’s university education is more important.”

”Shut up.” Wang Shuqiu’s anger surged. ”Do you have any right to speak? Your eldest is your son, but isn’t Fangfang your son too? Since he’s grown this big, have you ever taken care of him once, or bought him a single set of clothes? Never, not even once! Although you see him every time you come to ask for money, you act like he doesn’t exist. They are both your sons, how can you be so biased? Are you even human?”

My understanding has been refreshed once more, Du Heng thought, then looked at Zhao Xinfang, a bit dazed. These relationships are so damn messy.

Wang Shuqiu had completely let go. She no longer cared about giving face to her elders or maintaining her own propriety as a junior. She pointed at her uncle and aunt and began to rail against them.

”Your older cousin is your son. Did you ever pay a cent for his education? It was all my mom and dad’s hard-earned money that paid for his schooling!”

It seemed like her uncle knew he was at fault; as Wang Shuqiu’s voice got louder, his got quieter, muttering, ”I just wasn’t well-off.”

Wang Shuqiu almost laughed out of anger. ”Well-off? When have you ever been well-off? My mom is just too kind-hearted, raising two lazy, good-for-nothing parasites!”

Her aunt became even more displeased and retorted, craning her neck, ”How can you speak like that, child? Has all your education gone to the dogs?”

Wang Shuqiu’s sarcastic expression was plain on her face. ”Did I say anything wrong? Other families grow codonopsis and astragalus. Even at the minimum, they can earn 70,000 to 80,000 yuan a year. Many earn over 100,000 yuan, and some even 300,000 to 400,000 yuan. But you two are so lazy you’re practically glued to your bed. In order not to farm, you actually rented out a total of thirty mu of good and poor land to others for 300 yuan per mu.”

The more she spoke, the angrier Wang Shuqiu got. She completely shed her cool and educated demeanor, her finger almost touching their noses.

”Thirty mu of land, for ten thousand yuan a year! Were you kicked in the head by a donkey?”

”That’s because they paid in cash, and your older cousin urgently needed money for school at the time.”

”Bullshit! You really think I don’t know? The money for my older cousin’s schooling came from my mom, okay? What did you do with the money? You went on vacation! You thought I wouldn’t know? Your precious older cousin is a complete idiot; he posted your vacation photos on ins, and I saw them all!”

Although Du Heng thought Wang Shuqiu’s cursing was a bit unladylike, even shrewish, he found himself unexpectedly liking it. This kind of unrestrained cursing and tearing into people is an experience I’ve never had before, he mused. So satisfying! Refreshing from head to toe.

However, at the same time, Du Heng also understood why Wang Shuqiu’s arrangements were so urgent.

With a family like this—an unprincipled mother, a father who hasn’t uttered a word through all this—if it were me, I’d want to escape too. I might even just disappear and never show up again; that’s also possible.

”Did you take the money I gave my mom last year? That was for your younger son’s medical expenses. Do you two have any conscience left?”

”Your mother gave it to us.”

”Just because my mom gave it to you, you took it? Do you have any shame?” Wang Shuqiu sneered. ”That’s right, you have no shame, utterly shameless. The house you live in was built by my mom using our family’s money. Look at our family’s house! You live comfortably in your new house, yet you still have the gall to shamelessly come to our door asking for money. How could you possibly have any shame?”

Wang Shuqiu’s barrage had been like a string of firecrackers, clear and sharp, not giving the two a chance to speak.

As soon as she paused, her aunt immediately seized the opportunity. ”Look at yourself, just like a shrew. We ask your mother for money for the sake of your older cousin and for your benefit.”

”Thank you, but we don’t need it.” Wang Shuqiu was disdainful.

”Repaying kindness with ingratitude, like a dog biting Lv Dongbin! You have no foresight at all. As long as your older cousin stays at the Provincial First People’s Hospital, he can help promote your boyfriend, and then you can benefit from it. The money you give now is an investment, understand? Look at your boyfriend, working in a small Health Clinic, earning just three or four thousand yuan a month. When can you two afford a house in Jinzhou? If your older cousin gives you a little help, it’ll be enough for you for a lifetime.”

Du Heng helplessly touched his nose. Why is the fire being directed at me now?

Although annoyed and wanting to show his displeasure, he still maintained basic decency and didn’t speak up. Otherwise, if he gave them something to talk about, it would make things awkward for Wang Shuqiu.

Of course, Wang Shuqiu soon avenged Du Heng. ”What a joke! He can promote my boyfriend? Is he qualified? With the two of you so cunning and lazy, what kind of talent do you think you can raise? Your precious older cousin failed seven subjects when he was tested on five. Does he have the qualifications to promote my boyfriend?”

So satisfying, Du Heng thought, quietly giving Wang Shuqiu a mental thumbs-up. Although it’s wrong to speak to elders like this, it’s just inexplicably satisfying.
