This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Xu Pinglin finally asked about the treatment method.

At this, everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief.

Asking for the method signified that Du Heng’s diagnosis was sound, and it also indicated Xu Pinglin’s stance—he admitted he was wrong.

Everyone present was a person of status; there was no need to force someone to openly admit their mistake.

The leader looked satisfied, feeling greatly relieved. He felt comfortable, extremely comfortable. His team still had plenty of fighting spirit. So what if you’re from the Provincial First Hospital? You were still bested by our little village doctor.

The leader wanted to laugh out loud, but considering his own status, Xu Pinglin’s status, and the current situation, he restrained himself.

He gave Du Heng a look, signaling him to quit while he was ahead and not to push things to the point where everyone would lose face.

Noticing the leader’s glance, Du Heng understood. Besides, he wasn’t the type to drive someone into a corner.

Looking at the pale-faced Xu Pinglin, who had lost all his vitality, Du Heng didn’t press the issue. Instead, he said directly, ”In traditional Chinese medicine, we say, ’In acute conditions, treat the symptoms; in chronic conditions, treat the root cause.’ Director Xu, your emotional ailment isn’t urgent. Once your qi and blood Deficiency is corrected, your mood will naturally improve.

If you trust me, have your hospital’s traditional Chinese medicine doctor prescribe you ten doses of Cassia Twig, Porkloin and Oyster Soup. You’re from the Provincial First Hospital, a Grade 3A institution. You presumably have access to high-quality porkloin. Don’t be reluctant to use it; it will be very beneficial for you. Of course, if you don’t trust me, then just pretend I said nothing.”

Xu Pinglin’s expression changed rapidly, betraying his complex emotions.

After a long moment, Xu Pinglin took a deep breath, looked at everyone solemnly, and then bowed deeply. ”I’m sorry. I apologize to everyone for my earlier ignorance and unreasonable behavior.”

After saying this, his expression surprisingly calmed. ”Please, continue with your work. I’ll wait for everyone in the conference room upstairs.”

Watching Xu Pinglin’s retreating figure, Du Heng sighed inwardly. He truly is the Deputy Director of a Class A hospital. Just this composure, this willingness to admit his mistake directly, is enough to command the respect of everyone here.

As for whether Xu Pinglin was genuinely prepared to kowtow, no one present was tactless enough to press the issue.

Li Qingde wiped the sweat from his brow. That whole scene had terrified him. Sweating was the least of it; his legs were still trembling.

Thank goodness Du Heng was truly skilled. Otherwise, they would have been in serious trouble today.

Quickly wiping the sweat from his forehead, he put a smile back on his face and eagerly invited the leader, his colleagues, and the patient’s family members who had presented the silk banner to take a few photos together.

The patient’s family members were grateful to Du Heng and trusted him. Moreover, they were well-mannered people and hadn’t done anything to make things difficult for Du Heng.

Now that the issue was resolved, everyone was beaming.

With a shout, the gongs and drums outside, which had fallen silent, roared to life once more.

Zhang Jinlian felt like she was about to grind her teeth to dust. She didn’t know why, but at this moment, she hated Du Heng intensely.

Was it because he had stolen her spotlight, meaning she was no longer the most prominent figure at the Health Clinic? Or was it because Du Heng’s medical skills made her jealous? Or perhaps Du Heng had stolen her patients?

Laugh all you want. Let’s see how many days you can keep that smile on your face, she thought, glaring fiercely. Not joining them for the photos, she turned and went back to her office.

This time, her expression and gaze were noticed by Wang Zhenzhen, who was also standing behind the group.

Her heart, which had just been rejoicing over Du Heng’s success, suddenly clenched.

Du Heng is my brother-in-law now; we’re family. I must remind Du Heng to be wary of this woman. When a woman goes mad, she’s capable of anything.

This farce had begun suddenly, and its conclusion was just as unexpected.

However, none of this prevented the crowd from enjoying the spectacle.

Of course, this wasn’t just idle gossip they were enjoying for free. Seeing the gongs and drums starting up again at the entrance of the Health Clinic, everyone understood that there was a very skilled doctor here.

After the photo session, the leader and the evaluation group went upstairs. Li Qingde also let out a sigh of relief. ”Xiao Du, we really owe you for today. Otherwise, this situation could have escalated.”

Du Heng looked at Li Qingde, speechless. ”Dean, please, never let something like this happen again. It’s too terrifying!”

Li Qingde, also still shaken, said, ”It won’t, I’ll never do something like this again. When Deputy Director Xu jumped in earlier, my heart was pounding so hard I thought it would explode.”

He ran his hand over the back of his hair a couple of times, as if trying to brush away the lingering shock. ”Alright, let’s not dwell on it. Come upstairs with me. You should say a few words later on.”

Du Heng waved his hand. ”I won’t go, Dean. I don’t have much to say if I go up. If I talk too much, they’ll think I’m showing off. Besides, look at my office; so many follow-up patients have arrived. I should take care of them.”

Li Qingde glanced at the patients and their families already queuing at Du Heng’s office door and nodded, agreeing with Du Heng’s reasoning. At this point, Du Heng’s participation in the meeting was no longer crucial.

Even going to the meeting upstairs now was just a formality, part of the standard procedure.

After all, the members of the evaluation group needed to communicate and review documents before they could assign scores.

”That’s fine too. Patients come first.”

”Then I’ll get to work.”

Du Heng straightened his clothes and turned to walk into his office.

The office itself wasn’t large. With so many people crowding in, Wu Buwei and Ma Zichen were squeezed out.

Ma Zichen stood by the door, watching Du Heng laughing and chatting with the patients inside. His eyes held more little stars than before, his admiring gaze completely unconcealed.

”Wu, isn’t Du amazing? Just by performing pulse diagnosis, he left Director Xu utterly flabbergasted. That’s a Deputy Chief Physician in Digestion Department 1 at the Provincial First Hospital!”

After a month of being tempered by such events, Wu Buwei was no longer easily surprised.

Although his inner admiration for Du was even deeper and more intense than Ma Zichen’s, he had grown accustomed to it. He didn’t let it show on the surface, lest he appear unsophisticated and as if he’d never seen the world.

”You think it’s amazing, don’t you?”

”Of course! He just placed three fingers like that, a light touch, and the illness was identified. Isn’t that magical? Our teachers at school never mentioned any method like this.”

Hearing Ma Zichen’s envious tone, Wu Buwei raised his eyebrows proudly. ”There’s a lot to this method. I was fortunate enough to witness it once last month, when he diagnosed that patient with colon cancer.”

”This technique is too flashy. Wu, you’ve been following Du for a long time; you must have learned it. Teach me, will you?”

”Nonsense!” Wu Buwei looked at Ma Zichen with disdain. ”I asked my dad about this technique, and I also asked my teachers from school; none of them know it. Du also said that to learn this method, you first need to be able to recite the ’Pulse Canon’ backwards fluently.”

”Why is that?”

Hearing Ma Zichen’s naive question, Wu Buwei laughed triumphantly. ”Why? Think about it: why couldn’t Deputy Director Xu get better for so long? I don’t believe he didn’t consult the traditional Chinese medicine doctors at his own hospital.”

”You don’t even need to think about it; he definitely consulted them. Wu, stop keeping me in suspense! Hurry up and tell me why you need to be able to recite the ’Pulse Canon’ backwards to learn this.”
