The Young Master's Escaping Bride Who Lost Memories

Chapter 1400: Chapter 1417: Nangong Zhongli’s Confession 3

”I had my eye on that necklace. Shaochen knew how much I liked it... I wanted him to buy it for me. But... he said that necklace didn’t suit me. Heh...” She let out a bitter laugh.

”What’s ’suitable’ or ’not suitable’ supposed to mean anyway? I know very well it was because that salesgirl told him the symbolic meaning of that necklace was that you and the one you love can be of one heart, be in perfect harmony, be together forever... So I wasn’t the person he was looking for.

Do you have any idea how I felt at that moment? Do you know how humiliating it was, how much it hurt, when the clerk looked at me like that?

But... all I could do was smile, pretend it didn’t matter.

Yet when I saw Shaochen looking at that necklace, his eyes lit up. I knew... I knew that at that instant, whoever he was thinking about, it definitely wasn’t me.

So I made a bet with myself.

I bought that necklace, tampered with it, then returned it to the store. I had Manager An sell that necklace to Shaochen.

If Shaochen hadn’t bought that necklace, if he hadn’t betrayed me and gone and given that necklace to you, none of this would have happened.

Xia Xiaonuan... so none of this is my fault. If you have to blame someone, blame yourself. If you were loyal to my brother, how could you accept another man’s necklace and keep wearing it?

Besides, my brother gave you the same one, and you never once wore it.

Xia Xiaonuan, the truly shameless one is you! All of this is the fruit of your own doing! So your child was killed by you yourself... Xia...”

”Smack—!”

A sharp slap landed across Nangong Zhongli’s face, cutting off the rest of her words completely.

Xia Xiaonuan’s face was streaked with tears. Her fingers stung from the impact. Through blurred vision, she stared at Nangong Zhongli in disbelief.

Then she swung up her other hand and landed another vicious slap on Zhong Li’s right cheek.

Nangong Zhongli was caught completely off guard and was knocked to the floor.

She clutched her face, glared at Xia Xiaonuan, and braced herself to lunge at her.

Suddenly, a fit of dry coughing broke out, and before Nangong Zhongli could move, she collapsed back down onto the floor.

Nangong Jinlie’s expression was dark and shifting, a richness of emotion that was almost impossible to put into words.

Xia Xiaonuan rushed forward again, hurling herself at Nangong Zhongli like a madwoman.

She grabbed Nangong Zhongli by the neck, her hands clamping down in a death grip.

”You bitch! You murderer! I’m going to kill you, I’m going to avenge my child!” Her emotions were all but shattered, her whole body shaking as she screamed hoarsely, as if using every ounce of strength she had in her life, determined to send Nangong Zhongli straight to hell.

Several bodyguards rushed up and, after a great struggle, finally managed to drag her off Nangong Zhongli.

Nangong Zhongli’s face was flushed scarlet as she lay there in utter disarray, clutching her neck and hacking in violent dry coughs.

Xia Xiaonuan was being restrained by two people, yet she was still screaming out of control: ”I’ll kill you! Bitch, give me back my child! Give me back my child!”

Her voice echoed through the vast living room, desolate and hollow, chilling everyone who heard it to the bone.

The old butler standing to the side and the servants hiding in the corners all went pale with fright.

Only Nangong Jinlie, seated at the front, remained outwardly calm, seemingly composed and unruffled, yet his gaze fixed on Xia Xiaonuan was filled with emotions so complex and unspeakable they were hard to define.

He seemed to be staring at her, but his eyes, as if piercing through her, were looking somewhere far, far away.
