Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Saving a Person

”Little Lin, where’s your doctor?” Ye Xing asked.

”Oh, Ye Xing, it’s you. Dr. Zheng had to step out for something just now,” replied the medical staff member, Lin Liqin.

”Oh, how long has he been gone? Any idea when he’ll be back?” Ye Xing asked. The film crew’s dinner was around 11:30. He had mainly come here because he had a little extra time and planned to catch up with his old friend for half an hour. If he had to wait too long, he’d have to leave.

”He left about twenty minutes ago. It seemed like something urgent came up and he went downtown. He left in quite a hurry. A round trip will probably take an hour,” said the medical staff member, Lin Liqin.

”Oh, I see. In that case, I’ll get going. I’ll come back another day when I have time,” Ye Xing said.

As the two were talking, a sudden THUD sounded from nearby—the sound of someone falling.

Ye Xing and everyone else in the clinic couldn’t help but turn to look. They saw an elderly man with graying hair, still holding his medicine, who had suddenly collapsed on the floor.

”Hey, it’s Old Li! Why did he suddenly collapse?”

”Maybe it’s anemia!”

”When you get to his age, you’re bound to have all sorts of problems.”

”Anemia? No, that can’t be right. I heard Old Li has coronary heart disease!”

”Quick, quick, help Old Li up! Doctor, come take a look and see what’s wrong with him!”

Many people in the clinic hurried to help the collapsed Old Li.

”I’m not a doctor! Dr. Zheng had to step out. Everyone, please help this gentleman to the hospital, quickly,” the staff member, Lin Liqin, said hurriedly. Although she was also wearing a white coat, she was just an intern who did odd jobs. She could dispense medicine to patients, but she wouldn’t dare try to diagnose anyone.

”Ah, why isn’t Old Li breathing?!”

A sudden cry of alarm rang out from the crowd in the clinic. Someone had placed their fingers under Old Li’s nose and discovered in horror that he wasn’t breathing at all. There wasn’t the slightest trace of breath; he seemed to have stopped breathing completely.

”He’s dead! Old Li is dead!”

”No breath! How is he not breathing?!”

”Quick, call for an ambulance!”

The crowd was in a panic, and the cries from inside the clinic quickly drew a crowd of onlookers at the entrance.

’It’s over, it’s all over. How could something like this happen?’ Lin Liqin was pacing anxiously, quickly taking out her phone to call for an ambulance.

An incident like this would have a huge impact on the clinic’s reputation. Even if it wasn’t the clinic’s fault, there was no stopping people from speculating wildly. They might even call it medical malpractice, spreading rumors that the clinic’s medicine killed him. Some things only get worse the more you try to explain them. It was predictable that if Old Li didn’t wake up, business at the Yiming Clinic would plummet.

’It’s over, why won’t Dr. Zheng’s phone connect? What do I do? This is so stressful!’ The staff member, Lin Liqin, was frantic, repeatedly dialing Zheng Yiming’s number.

Just then, a middle-aged couple with panicked expressions hurriedly pushed their way through the crowd. They seemed to be Old Li’s family, having just received the news and rushed over.

”What’s going on? What happened to my dad?” the middle-aged woman asked anxiously.

”We don’t know either. Old Li suddenly collapsed just as he was getting his medicine,” someone in the crowd said.

”Getting medicine?” The face of the middle-aged man next to the woman immediately darkened. He turned to Lin Liqin, who was wearing the white coat, and demanded, ”Did your clinic prescribe the wrong medicine?!”

”No, of course not! Old Li just took the medicine he was prescribed. He hasn’t even taken any yet, has he?” Lin Liqin said quickly.

”Da Bin, I don’t think we can blame the clinic for this. Dad’s heart wasn’t good to begin with, and he’s collapsed a few times before,” the middle-aged woman said, supporting Old Li. She checked for breath under his nose with her finger, and her eyes filled with terror. She murmured, ”He’s not breathing?”

”The ambulance! Has anyone called for an ambulance?!” the middle-aged man shouted, hastily pulling out his phone to make the call.

”I’ve already called for one. It should be here in a little while,” said the clinic’s staff member, Lin Liqin.

Everyone in the clinic waited for the ambulance. The middle-aged woman held Old Li, her face etched with grief as she cried ceaselessly. Obviously, the fact that he had stopped breathing was a very bad sign.

After all, living people breathe, and only the dead do not. Old Li’s current condition was likely not far from death. Even if he were rushed into surgery, his chances were probably slim.

Watching her beloved father on the verge of death, the middle-aged woman was naturally overcome with sorrow and grief.

”Everyone, please make way. Hello, could you let me take a look at this gentleman?”

Just then, a young man pushed through the crowd and spoke to the middle-aged woman.

”Are you a doctor?” the middle-aged woman asked, her eyes filled with tears.

”I’m not a doctor, but I know some medicine,” Ye Xing said with a slight smile. ”Your father is in a very dangerous situation. He’s even stopped breathing. By the time the ambulance arrives, the delay might make things even worse. We need to get him breathing again as soon as possible.”

”Ye Xing, you know medicine?” the staff member Lin Liqin asked doubtfully. She only knew that Ye Xing was Dr. Zheng’s college roommate and seemed to be some kind of big boss.

”Mhm, I studied medicine with your Dr. Zheng for a while,” Ye Xing said.

”You’ve studied medicine? That’s wonderful! There are no other doctors here, so please, help him. See if you can do something to help my dad,” the middle-aged woman pleaded, as if clutching at her last straw. She knew her father’s situation was dire, and although this young man who claimed to know medicine was very young and the chance of success was slim, it was still a sliver of hope. She had to try.

”Okay.” Ye Xing nodded, then immediately placed his fingers gently on the old man’s wrist to take his pulse.

When it came to medicine, Ye Xing did indeed know a thing or two. As the saying goes, poison and medicine are two sides of the same coin. Although the *Five Poison Scripture* mostly discussed poisons and Poisonous Insects, it also included explanations of medical arts and pharmacology. Ye Xing had spent a considerable amount of time studying it and had mastered a certain level of medical skill. Of course, Ye Xing wasn’t planning to save the man with medical skill alone.

A wisp of True Qi flowed from his fingertips into the old man’s body. After it circulated once, Ye Xing had a general understanding of Old Li’s physical condition.

’This gentleman’s physical condition is terrible. Besides the heart problem, his lungs and trachea are in bad shape from long-term smoking. His cervical spine is also off... looks like a slipped disc,’ Ye Xing thought, his brow furrowed slightly. ’But the heart is the most serious issue. Never mind, I’ll focus on reviving his cardiac function first.’

Immediately, Ye Xing circulated his True Qi and activated the Thunder Heart Spring Wood within his body. A surge of the Power of Life instantly flowed into the old man, traveling up his arm and rushing toward his heart.
