The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Buhui took Song Ci’s pulse and then drew up a new prescription to give to Palace Nanny, saying, ”Since you’ve already started with the medicinal baths, don’t stop now, especially in this deep winter, as they strengthen the body. But when soaking, be sure not to stay too long, and don’t catch a chill.”

Song Ci asked, ”Do you think I’ll be fully recovered by spring?”

”With careful nurturing, it’s possible. But you must understand, even if you’re fully recovered, you’ll be more fragile than before due to past damage, so you should always have someone by your side.” Buhui said candidly, ”Not that I’m afraid of anything except the common stroke in the elderly. If there’s no one around to help when the time comes, you might...”

”Stop, I understand, you don’t have to say more.” Song Ci interrupted his forthrightness.

Buhui smiled, took a sip of the tea Lin Qing handed him, and continued: ”You’re a sensible person. The humble monk heard from Lin Qing that you regularly exercise and practice martial arts, which is good for health. But it must be done within your limits. How well you live and how long, isn’t determined by the doctor but by the patient. Doctors save people, but can’t save those determined to harm themselves.”

Lin Qing: ”Master, the Grand Madam is not such a person.”

”Exactly, I’m afraid of dying, so why would I seek it?”

”Excessive worry is also a form of self-harm.” Buhui said, ”The elderly should avoid high emotions. Sometimes, if breath is obstructed, it can be fatal.”

Everyone: ”...”

Lin Qing thought, if I sewed Master’s mouth shut, would I be expelled from the sect?

Song Ci held back and said, ”Master’s candidness can’t be faulted, but couldn’t you be a bit more gentle and tactful? Elders are always sensitive to discussions of life and death. If someone were timid and fragile, your straightforward words might scare them to death, adding sins unnecessarily.”

”How could that be? Even if the breath is interrupted, the humble monk can immediately use needles to save them; death is impossible.” Buhui glanced at her: ”My medical skills are commendable.”

Song Ci: ”...”

You’re so forthright, whatever you say is right, you contrarian.

Song Ci decided not to argue with him anymore, saying, ”The Cining Palace in the palace still estimates that it needs to invite Master to come and take the pulse and change prescriptions. This year’s New Year, Master might have to spend it in the capital. If Master doesn’t mind, how about spending the New Year in our residence?” Seeing him open his mouth to say something, she added, ”Centennial-aged wine, plenty enough.”

Buhui’s eyes curved into a smile, ”I just like straightforward people like the Grand Madam, very agreeable.”

Song Ci feigned a smile, thinking he loved the centennial-aged wine more?

”In fact, knowing Master’s extraordinary medical skills, several noble lords have asked me to invite Master to their homes for consultations. How should I respond to these invitations?”

Buhui looked at Lin Qing and said, ”Monks are compassionate, as long as the silver coin is sufficient, I have no objection. After all, my monastery needs repairing everywhere, the Bodhisattvas need their golden bodies, and some needy folks are short of medicine, which requires my charity.”

Song Ci held back: ”You can rest assured, I will ensure the notifications are sent.”

Then she turned to Palace Nanny and said, ”Later, have Gu come over, assign two stewards to stay by Master’s side, and give Master all the incoming invitations. Let Master decide where to go first, then send someone to inform the other party to prepare.”

Palace Nanny smiled and agreed.

Buhui took another sip of tea and said, ”If I go, I need someone to assist me, so Lin Qing will accompany me.”

Everyone was amazed.
