He immediately sprang to his feet a second later, avoiding a few more relentless attacks that came his way. This time though: He had a target.

He faced the area with vines and headed there. The Alterrans saw this and gasped, desperately heading to him to block his way.

This confirmed that the person behind the vines was not only a powerful archer with a very good weapon, but also an important person in the territory.

There was only one person who fit that description: Althea Witt.

He grinned.

In a blink, Vara disappeared from his position and rushed over to the side of the mountains. Higher-leveled Alterrans managed to catch up to him in an attempt to block his way, but it was a fact that they had already been weakened by the high-intensity fights that happened within the span of a few minutes.

Further, by this time, most of their equipment had been compromised, so a few hits from him would injure them to the point they might not be able to get up for a long time.

One person was just at the right angle for a deadly stab, too, so Vara naturally took this chance to make the kill.

However—

Clench

He paused as he felt the wound on his neck heat up, and it felt like intense pain spread throughout his body, originating from this spot.

His eyes widened.

He was poisoned!

And it wasn’t a typical poison either. Something that could affect him—someone who was already nearing level 40—was not normal. Who knew how much it could affect his body!

”AH!” he screamed when a few attacks managed to hit him in his distraction.

He stepped back and cursed, immediately drinking the all-poison antidote he had been saving for emergencies.

This cost him a few hundred gold in an auction and he had been keeping it in his space for a decade! To think he was forced to use it in this war!

It made him very angry.

”GRRRR—”

He arrived at the foot of the mountain a second later, climbing up the sides to grab at the vines. More Alterrans arrived to stop him, but he kicked them all down, aiming to grab the neck of this troublesome Elder.

At the same time, Feller’s team—whose remaining enemies had shifted to follow Vara—took advantage of this time to attack the Bunker.

That City woman blocked him with her weapon. ”Past the level limit, but still just a woman in the end,” Feller said as he sneered at Gaia. ”Bored being a tourist?”

Gaia did not grace him with a response, but her eyes were sharp.

Although she could not directly attack them, she’d definitely do her best to defend the people inside!

…

BANG!

The Alterrans gasped when they saw Miss Althea being grabbed by the enemy.

When the vines were destroyed and Althea was pulled back, her appearance was revealed to the enemies. As the rumors said, she was indeed incredibly beautiful. That Class A weapon of hers was, too.

Not to mention, according to the information, she was a wood-earth elementalist who was behind plenty of the things in Alterra!

They looked at her greedily, both for her weapon, usefulness, and her beauty.

Vara was no exception. He might be old and had a preference for men, but that was mostly because having them underneath him made him feel better—more powerful.

A woman of this caliber would not have inferior effects!

Suddenly, he heard a crack from the mountain and a boulder separated from the face of the mountain, hitting him.

”Ah!”

They lost balance and he unconsciously let go of the girl. Althea lifted her bow for another shot, shooting directly at his face. Vara quickly regained his bearing and avoided the arrow, creating a metallic shield to block the attacks.

BANG!

They fell to the ground level with people from both sides heading in to target the other. The Alterrans rushed over to Vara to stop him from getting Althea, while the enemies were greedy for Althea and the possibility that she could be holding the Lord Token!

Spikes from the rock also floated around and surrounded the woman. If people stationed in the Northeast were here, they’d recognize the technique as a parallel to Garan’s ice spikes.

She pushed back many enemies and kept herself away from them to some degree. However, Althea was only level 17, and the damage she could directly cause enemies of this level was naturally limited.

Feller looked at his men. ”Go take out the Elders there, I’ll deal with this,” he said. It was humiliating to spend so much energy on one woman who couldn’t attack when there were at least two elders to deal with behind him!

Feller held Gaia back. Although Gaia had a high level, it was a fact that she had depended a lot on aether crystals, even if it was a lot less than normal nobles, especially noble women.

This was why going against two mercenaries, especially when she could only defend, proved to be quite troublesome to her.

However, it wasn’t like she couldn’t do nothing either. She gripped her sword and waved it.

[Sword Line]

This was the only Sword inheritance she received from her maternal family. Thinking of them made her heart ache, but she was also glad she could use the skill to protect more people, especially children.

”Go past this line and you will be hurt,” Gaia said. ”And because I did not attack you directly, I will not get punished.”

If they get hurt by this, it would be because they stepped onto it by themselves. This was not counted as her transgression.

That said... the damage was not enough to debilitate past level 30, but it was not without pain either. Rather, it was quite painful.

Either way, whether or not these people knew that, it made them naturally reluctant to move.

”YOU!”

So while she could not rid of them, she was—for now—enough to keep the enemies away from their children hiding in the bunkers!

...

Anyway, the addition of Feller’s team meant that Althea was surrounded by at least a dozen men ten levels stronger than she was. The Alterrans fought hard to defend her, to handle the enemies that surrounded her.

To some degree, they did succeed, especially since Althea had a larger pool of mana to assist the others. While earth spikes surrounded her— making sure the enemies kept a distance—she could still soften the soil underneath enemies, creating quicksand through liquifaction.

However, despite all this, Vara was still in top condition, especially since he still had a lot of potions in his space.

In his eyes, all the resistance was futile.

He created another metallic shield around himself, easily jumping over the quicksand, and pushing people away as he appeared next to Althea.

”Behave like a proper woman and let me take you,” he said, a creepy grin donning his face.

However, before his grimy palms could grab Althea, the atmosphere turned cold, and everyone in the vicinity felt a chill straight to their souls.

”Who wants to take my wife?”
