My father sold me to the Mafia King

Chapter 100:

Julie’s Point of View

I was in desperate need to speak with Max and inform him of Robert’s approval.

I went down to the lower floor where his room was located and knocked on the door with successive knocks that reflected my anxiety.

He opened the door for me, that usual sarcastic smile etched on his face as he said:

”Yes, Miss Julie... I suppose you can’t bear not seeing me.”

I bypassed him and entered the room while exhaling in frustration:

”Don’t be ridiculous, Max.”

I sat on the edge of his bed, feeling the coldness of the room seeping into my body, and said directly:

”Robert agreed.”

He raised an eyebrow in surprise and leaned his massive body toward the closet:

”That fast?”

I shook my head while interlacing my fingers:

”Yes, it was easy to persuade him.”

He muttered in a low voice:

”Strange...”

I turned to him seriously and fixed my gaze on his eyes:

”Listen, Max, I don’t want anyone to know that Olivia is the one who hit me... especially Robert.”

He asked me while watching my features closely:

”First, you will tell me why she is doing this, and why you don’t want Mr. Robert to know?”

I relaxed my stiffened shoulders and said bitterly:

”Robert doesn’t care about the girls here, Max, and if I tell him that Olivia is doing this to me, it means I have become his... that’s what she told me.”

His question caught me off guard when he said:

”And why do you think Mr. Robert would care at all about what Olivia does to you?”

I felt my tongue tie for a moment and said, trying to organize my thoughts:

”I don’t think that; she is just weaving ridiculous ideas in her head.”

He took a step toward me and asked curiously:

”What are these ideas?”

I lowered my gaze toward the floor, feeling a heat sweeping over my face out of shame, and whispered:

”She thinks I’m trying to seduce Robert, and she says... she says that I had sex with him.”

Max was silent for seconds, then said in a serious tone:

”Everyone knows that Olivia is obsessed with Mr. Robert, but why is she telling you this specifically?”

I answered sharply while shaking my head:

”Because she’s crazy!”

He commented calmly:

”Or maybe there is a reason...”

I knitted my brows and asked him:

”What do you mean?”

He pulled a cigarette from his jacket and lit it, exhaling the smoke slowly as he said:

”That bitch always hits the girls here, but they don’t dare tell Mr. Robert because they don’t even meet him.”

He paused for a bit while watching the smoke rise, then continued:

”That’s why I find it strange that you see Mr. Robert and meet him constantly, to the point that you’ve become his personal assistant.”

I jumped to my feet, feeling his words like whips accusing me:

”Do you mean that what Olivia says is true? That I am trying to get close to him?”

He raised his hand, calming me down:

”I’m not saying that; I’m just talking to you about what I know.”

I screamed with a sincerity that tore my throat:

”I don’t know! and believe me, I never want to see that monster.”

He replied in a quiet voice, as if reading between the lines:

”But he wants to see you.”

I struck my fist on the edge of the bed in anger:

”Stop it, Max! You’re making me angry!”

He tried to interrupt me:

”I only...”

But I screamed, interrupting him:

”That jerk and lowlife doesn’t want to see me; he knows that seeing his face is torture for me, so he punishes me by having me around him!”

Then I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heartbeat:

”And don’t open this subject again because it provokes me to an unbearable degree.”

Max exhaled his cigarette smoke slowly and shook his head in surrender, saying:

”Alright, Julie.”

His tone wasn’t enough to calm my fears, so I stepped one step closer to him and fixed my gaze on his eyes with sharpness and strength:

”Promise me, Max... no one must know what Olivia is doing.”

He raised his eyebrows in wonder and leaned his massive body back slightly, asking:

”And why all this insistence on a promise?”

I didn’t answer with a word; instead, I tightened my facial features and sent him a sharp look that almost pierced his silence.

He backed down from his stubbornness and shook his head:

”Fine... I promise you.”

I relaxed my grip and felt some weight lifted off my chest:

”Excellent... tomorrow then, I will come to you to start training.”

He replied while putting out his cigarette in a routine motion:

”I wake up very early, so I will be available waiting for you.”

I nodded my head:

”Alright, I’ll be here in the early morning.”

I turned and left the room with quick steps. On my way through the hallway, I caught a glimpse of the hanging clock; it was exactly ten o’clock.

I suddenly felt a cramp in my stomach and a weakness in my body, so I muttered in a faint voice:

”I haven’t had my dinner yet...”

I reached my room door, placed my hand on the handle, and pressed it slowly.

As soon as the door opened and I stepped inside, I froze in my place; my eyes bulged and my breath caught for seconds as I contemplated the unexpected scene that greeted me.

I took a step back and whispered in total shock:

”Am I dreaming... or what?”

I moved with slow steps inside the room, scanning the surroundings with a bewilderment that paralyzed my thinking.

”Axel” ran toward me enthusiastically, nuzzling my feet with his head, but my eyes were fixed on that paper placed on the edge of the bed.

I picked it up with trembling fingers, and as soon as my eyes fell on its content, I felt the flame of anger running through my veins like wildfire.

I stormed out of the room like a hurricane, climbed the stairs toward Robert’s office, and burst into the place after a single knock that didn’t wait for permission.

Robert was buried behind his desk, immersed in a pile of papers. He raised his head coldly and asked:

”Yes, Julie... what do you want?”

I tried to stifle my disturbed breaths and said sharply:

”I’m wondering about Mr. Carlos... has he gone?”

He answered while returning his gaze to the papers:

”He is in the special room.”

I knitted my brows; what is this damn room, I wonder? Robert continued without raising his head:

”Why are you asking about him?”

I said briefly as I backed toward the door:

”Nothing important.”

I was about to leave, but his voice stopped me:

”Wait, I need you for something important.”

I answered hurriedly while placing my hand on the handle:

”Later... I’m busy now.”

I closed the door behind me, leaving him behind, and asked myself indignantly:

”Where is this special room?”

Suddenly, that room I saw when Robert took me on a tour of this floor flashed in my memory; vast room that contains nothing but a huge bed in its center and a mirror hanging from the ceiling... the same shiver that hit me that day crawled up my back again.

I headed toward it with steps driven by anger, and began knocking on the door with continuous and violent knocks.

I was fully aware that what I was doing was pure madness; he is in there with a woman, and I am brazenly violating their privacy, but anger was stronger than logic.

Suddenly, the door swung open violently, and I froze in my place as I looked at the black muzzle of the weapon aimed directly at my head.

My heartbeat accelerated until I could almost hear its thumping in my ears, and I thought I was going to draw my last breath now; for after the slap, here I am intruding on his privacy, and the bullet is inevitably waiting for me.

But Carlos’s hand relaxed slowly, and he lowered the weapon while staring at me in total shock, muttering in astonishment:

”Julie?”

I swallowed my lump, gathered every remaining ounce of strength in my trembling body, and fixed my gaze on his astonished eyes, saying in a commanding tone:

”Come... follow me to my room immediately!”
