My father sold me to the Mafia King

Chapter 81:

Robert’s Point of View

Carlos was standing far too close to her, trying to cast his nets around Julie my ”personal assistant” who had suddenly piqued his interest.

I felt a clench in my jaw, but I kept my tone calm as I said:

”Carlos, you’ve been forgetting a lot lately... don’t let my personal assistant become the reason for your distraction.”

Carlos’s smile widened, and he tilted his head slightly as if accepting the challenge, replying coldly:

”Alright, dear Robert, I’ll be going now.”

I looked at him rigidly and added in a definitive tone:

”You’ll find Luna ready for you tonight.”

At that moment, I saw Carlos’s features change suddenly; the smile froze on his lips, and a fleeting cruelty appeared in his eyes.

Then he turned and left without another word, leaving behind the echo of his heavy footsteps.

I turned to Julie.

She was standing as if detached from this world, staring into space with vacant eyes as if her soul was no longer in this corridor.

I said in a steady voice to break her silence:

”Julie.”

She startled slightly as if waking from a disturbing dream, looking at me while blinking rapidly:

”Yes? What?”

I narrowed my eyes, questioning:

”What is the reason for this distraction?”

She averted her gaze and replied briefly:

”Nothing.”

I wasn’t convinced, but I moved past it and said:

”Fine... now, follow me.”

She asked suspiciously as she trailed my steps:

”Where to?”

I answered coldly without looking back:

”You’ll see.”

She walked behind me in the long corridor until we reached the door of my private room.

I stopped and turned toward her, seeing the features of shock clearly etched on her face.

She took half a step back and said in a trembling tone:

”What will I be doing in your room?”

I fixed my gaze on her and said as I opened the door slowly:

”I am going to show you your new job.”

She gripped the edges of her clothes tensely and asked:

”What do you mean?”

I nodded my head toward the inside and said with an indisputable firmness:

”Get in and you’ll find out.”

Instead of entering, she increased the distance between us, shaking her head in refusal:

”No.”

I furrowed my brows and took a step toward her until I cornered her with my gaze, asking with a suspicious calm:

”What is the reason?”

She tilted her head slightly while intertwining her fingers nervously, then said in a tone carrying a lot of caution:

”I want to ask you... and answer me honestly.”

I raised my left eyebrow coldly, leaning my weight on one leg as I watched her, and replied:

”That depends on your question.”

She took a deep breath as if gathering her courage, then said:

”The day I got drunk... did you...”

She stopped suddenly, and her sentence remained hanging in the air while her eyes began to wander around the place, escaping my gaze.

I said rigidly as I narrowed the distance between us:

”I what?”

She stammered, trying hard to force the words out of her throat:

”Did... did you carry me?”

I felt a flash of suspicion; was her memory starting to return? Does she remember the details of that night? I stared at her troubled features and asked her calmly:

”Do you remember what happened?”

Like a flash of lightning, she raised her hand to cover her mouth,

and her eyes widened in shock as she whispered behind her fingers:

”So the talk is true...”

I immediately realized there was a third party in this story, so I said in a slightly sharp tone:

”And that means someone told you.”

She shook her head left and right quickly and said:

”That doesn’t matter.”

Then she closed her eyes tightly for seconds, as if trying to expel an image from her imagination,

before opening them and facing me with a hidden look of plea:

”Nothing could have happened between us... right?”

I didn’t answer her with a word; instead, I just drew a mysterious smile on my lips, then slowly raised my hand and ran my thumb over my lower lip in a calculated movement.

She jumped in her place, pointing her index finger at my face, gesturing at me with a terror mixed with astonishment:

”You! You did it... you repeated the same movement!”

I raised my eyebrows in mock surprise, relaxing my facial features completely as I asked her with fake confusion:

”What movement?”

Julie stomped the floor with her foot, and agitation was clear in the tone of her voice, which rose slightly as she pointed at my face:

”You ran your thumb over your lip! You’re hinting to me... hinting that I kissed you!”

My composure didn’t budge; instead, I tilted my head to the side and looked at her with a gaze shrouded in mischief, then said with utter simplicity:

”And what is the problem with that? It was just a kiss.”

She froze in place, her eyes widening in shock as if struck by a lightning bolt, and she whispered with trembling lips:

”Impossible...”

I took a step toward her and asked in a calm, provocative voice:

”Why?”

She gathered herself, and words rushed from between her clenched teeth as she looked at me with contempt:

”It’s impossible that I would kiss a monster like you... and that you would be the owner of my first kiss!”

At that moment, I felt a sting of genuine shock that I couldn’t hide behind my mask; despite knowing full well she was still a virgin, it had never occurred to me that no one had ever touched her lips before.

I quickly regained my balance, painted a mocking smile on my face, and asked in a sarcastic tone while my eyes scanned her burning features:

”Really?... Your first kiss?”

Her cheeks flushed with the red of anger, and she said in a tone that explicitly accused me:

”You exploited that! I was drunk and wasn’t in my senses!”

This performance was starting to please me; watching her confusion and tension gave me indescribable pleasure.

I leaned my body toward her, relaxing my voice into a provocative calm:

”I didn’t exploit you... you can’t place the blame on me alone, Julie.”

She couldn’t stand my coldness, so she raised her voice loud enough to echo in the corridor:

”I wasn’t in my senses! You should have stopped me!”

In the blink of an eye, my hand gripped her wrist and pulled her toward the room with a force that left her no room for resistance.

I turned the doorknob with my other hand, pushed her inside, and then slammed the door shut behind us violently.

I stood before her, my massive body blocking any exit, and said in a sharp, low tone that made the room go completely still:

”Don’t raise your voice again... never forget who you are talking to, Julie.”

She snatched her hand from my grip violently, backing away while panting with difficulty, and shouted in my face:

”Let me out!”

I didn’t respond with a word; instead, I turned the key in the lock with a definitive metallic sound,

then pulled it out slowly and placed it in my trouser pocket, fixing my eyes on hers, which widened with terror, and said:

”I will show you your work first... then you can leave.”
