642: Chapter 638: Ancient City Battlefield 642: Chapter 638: Ancient City Battlefield Listening to the old hunter Zhao Dayun recount ancient anecdotes and rumors of the Ruins Ridge, everyone felt incredibly astonished.

Even Wang Simeng and Hee Tianci among the three, who had heard about the legends of Ruins Ridge in their sects, hadn’t received details as specific as those Zhao Dayun provided.

Hence, they were all listening with baffled expressions on their faces.

However, they did not believe in the ominous prognostications.

As Cultivators, they dismissed the bizarre and eerie tales and ominous omens with skepticism.

Even Lin Tian listened intently with a smile on his face, maintaining his silence.

If there truly were Demon Spirits, Lin Tian would believe in it, but the idea of impending doom, that he found dubious.

Yet the disappearance of the Ancient City as described by the old hunter, Lin Tian was convinced it was most likely caused by an Array—if he wasn’t mistaken, probably an Illusion Array.

“Old Zhao, the places you mentioned, Soul-breaking Abyss, Dead Forest, I can’t even recognize the directions, let alone which place connects to another.

Last time you led the way, I nearly got dizzy with confusion!

Thus, if we’re to go to Ruins Ridge, we still need you to show us the way!”

Situ Xiu, the portly man, turned around and said with a wry smile, “As for those rumors you spoke of, we’re not afraid.

Just guide us, and don’t worry.

Whatever happens, we won’t blame you.”

Situ Xiu had only attained the Qi Refining First Level, but he already had his suspicions.

During his first trip to mine raw stones, there had been casualties, a result of stumbling upon a Killing Array.

He concluded that everything the old hunter mentioned was likely the result of Array formations.

To Zhao Dayun, a mere mortal, even the simplest Array might seem as mysterious as ghosts, naturally leading him to suspect the existence of malevolent entities.

“Fine, since you insist on going, this old man won’t stop you,”

Zhao Dayun said with a shake of his head and a sigh.

The vehicle traveled the night roads.

In the forest park, there were mountains, lakes, ravines, streams, and dense woods of raw stones, and with the darkness of nightfall, it was like being inside an inverted bowl, suffocatingly dark, punctuated by bizarre cries that arose intermittently and added to the discomfort.

The forest park had many forks—a simple gravel road with directions expanding in every conceivable way.

An ordinary person entering would surely get lost in an instant.

What’s more, it was now night, so dark one could not see their own hands.

The SUV was like a Fire Worm thrown into the vast sea of darkness, so very minute.

Fortunately, Zhao Dayun, the old hunter, truly lived up to his name.

Even as they traveled through the endless Lin Sea in the darkness, he confidently pointed out the way, albeit with constant turns and climbs that left Situ Xiu dizzy and disoriented.

Lin Tian, with his Divine Sense scanning the surroundings, noticed that the road to Ruins Ridge was exceedingly convoluted.

After bypassing countless mountains and ravines, even he started to feel bewildered.

He couldn’t figure out how Zhao Dayun remembered these paths.

The vehicle had been driving for several hours.

By the time the SUV stopped in front of a vast canyon Abyss, the sky was beginning to lighten.

“This is Soul-breaking Abyss!”

As the group disembarked, Zhao Dayun, seeing Lin Tian and Wang Simeng among others looking curious, understood it was their first visit and began to explain the Abyss right before them.

Lin Tian stood before the Abyss, looking up to discern the Primitive Forest faintly visible through the Mist Sea on the opposite side, vast and endless.

From below the Abyss, the wind blew, creating strange hooting sounds that were somewhat cringe-inducing.

“Finally, this place, I recognize it!”

Situ Xiu surveyed the area, growing familiar with the place, and then, with a respectful and nervous tone, he turned to Wang Simeng and the others, “Once we descend into the Abyss, towards Ruins Ridge and that raw stone mining mountain, I’ll know the way.”

Noticing Situ Xiu’s respectful demeanor, Zhao Dayun was a bit surprised, but he had no desire to dwell on it, assuming he was someone of importance brought by Situ Xiu, and then suggested, “Since Boss Situ recognizes the way, this old man won’t bother tagging along to worry himself anymore.

Besides, the vehicle can’t make it across.

How about I wait for you in the car until you return?”

“You two, lead the way!”

Now that Situ Xiu was familiar with the way, there was no need for Zhao Dayun anymore.

Wang Simeng directly signaled to Situ Xiu and Lin Tian.

Since Wang Simeng had spoken, what could Situ Xiu do?

He agreed and then, after telling Zhao Dayun to stay in the car, he glared fiercely at Lin Tian before heading forward.

He felt that having an idiot follow them meant at least there would be a scapegoat—someone to use as a human shield in dangerous situations.

Situ Xiu knew that Lin Tian had never been here before, but he didn’t point it out and thus took the lead.

On one side of the abyss was a gentle slope, with a very steep mountain path hanging over the cliff below.

Ordinary people would tremble with fear when walking down it, finding it extremely difficult.

Fortunately, all of them were cultivators and they made their descent along the cliff as if it were flat ground.

And Lin Tian was actually keeping up, which surprised Wang Simeng and the others.

They couldn’t detect any fluctuations of Qi from Lin Tian and assumed he had just developed good skills from climbing mountain paths regularly.

After finally descending the abyss, the group followed Situ Xiu, threading their way through a narrow valley between the mountains and the dense forest on the opposite side, groping along the dark mountain stone path.

After passing through the valley, which took an entire morning, the view suddenly opened up as they emerged from the valley.

Here was a flat, boundless plain.

However.

Eerily, all of the forests and shrubs here were gray and black, as if they were withered and dead, devoid of any vitality.

There were also no sounds of insects or birds in the surroundings.

Across the vast plains, not an insect or bird, not a spot of green could be seen—it was like a land of death.

“We’ve finally arrived.

Looking at this, this place must be the Dead Forest that Elder Zhao mentioned!

I didn’t notice much last time, and Elder Zhao didn’t mention it, but looking carefully now, it’s really damn eerie…”

The plump Situ Xiu looked around and his expression changed slightly; he shivered all over, as the dead silence around them was truly unsettling.

“Hmph, you were the one who tied up that old man and brought him to lead the way, weren’t you?

It would be strange if he told you anything; he probably wished for you all to die here!”

Wang Simeng snorted at Situ Xiu and exclaimed, “Hurry up and lead the way!”

Situ Xiu shuddered, checked the direction, and quickly moved on through the Dead Forest, heading towards a forest on the horizon that seemed to have some undulating hills where Ruins Ridge ought to be.

Half an hour later.

The five of them entered the forest, still surrounded by deathly silence.

The tall trees were grayish-black as if dead, yet they grew extremely tall.

However.

Beyond the forest and after emerging in front of continuous low-lying hills, the sounds of chirping insects and birds returned, along with occasional roars of wild beasts; life was plentiful.

Moreover, not long after the group proceeded, they discovered a city wall over a hundred meters long, collapsed in many places, and estimated to be over a dozen meters high, spanning the base of the low hills, exuding endless desolation, yet still majestic.

Next to the city wall was a dilapidated ancient building, barely recognizable.

“Ancient City!

How did we miss this last time?”

Upon seeing this scene, Situ Xiu’s face changed, and he whispered in shock.

Wang Simeng and the others also showed surprised expressions and hurriedly took quick steps forward.

But as they approached the base of the city wall, a humming sound resonated, and the air fluctuated, revealing depressions in the soil on both sides of the wall.

This commotion startled everyone.

“No wonder this fatso didn’t find it last time; there was an Illusion Array protecting this place…

But now, the array is completely broken, probably due to the passage of enough time…”

Wang Simeng observed and speculated tentatively.

After walking two steps forward, her pretty face turned to shock and she urgently said to Hee Tianci, “Big Brother, this must be the battlefield of some ancient city!

Perhaps it’s a satellite fortress built in the suburbs to guard the main city!

Look at this, it’s all the corpses of soldiers and tattered armor and weapons…”
