One-Eyed Monster

The people from Smoke were also barely alive; they had already been thoroughly tormented in the previous battles, treated as puppets by the Puppet Monster and left covered in wounds.

However, they were Adventurers with Class, and their constitution differed naturally from ordinary people. Even though they were wounded all over, they still maintained a clear consciousness.

Igor, reminded by Kadi, immediately cast an inquiring glance toward Smoke.

In that moment, the four from Smoke held great reverence for Igor and the others. The giant Grim, who had been painfully awakened, feigned death again upon Kadi’s words.

Igor slowly approached the Wizard. This was a Flame Type Wizard, and Igor remembered clearly that this Wizard’s name seemed to be Sims.

”What should be done now to save this child?” the master Lao asked urgently.

Clearly distressed by the sight of the fragile maiden, the master felt great heartache. At the age when she should bloom, her awareness was devoured by a strange entity, her whole body under control, losing her autonomy entirely. Such pain was unimaginable for an average person, let alone for a delicate maiden.

In Igor’s view, throughout the process, the maiden couldn’t resist because the opponent’s devouring power was too strong, leaving no chance for an ordinary person to fight back, meaning her self-awareness was tortured from beginning to end.

”Master, add more charcoal to the furnace. Don’t let it get cold here; not only is the poor maiden’s consciousness struggling, but her entire being is enduring agony. The only consolation is that she remained unconscious the whole time, sparing her from witnessing those strange processes...”

After instructing the master on what to do, Igor walked straight toward the four from Smoke.

”Stop pretending, I noticed you were awake long ago.” Passing by the big guy Grim, Igor didn’t miss the chance to tease him.

Grim didn’t expect this at all; he struggled to lift himself up and said, ”I’m sorry, spare me!”

”You are nominally part of the Alchemy Workshop, so we won’t deal with you. Just wait.” Igor replied.

Smoke was indeed nominally submitted to the Alchemy Workshop and, since Igor relied on Luona who collaborated with the Alchemy Workshop, he naturally didn’t have the authority to handle these people.

”Spare us!” Despite the disparity in strength, Smoke feared Igor and the rest greatly. They were opportunists, aligning with whoever was strongest, willing to do anything and endure any humiliation for survival.

The four from Smoke pleaded tearfully with Igor and the others, unnerved after witnessing their master’s recent defeat.

”I said, we have no way...” Igor was irked by these idiots. He never wanted to handle so many matters, tying people here just for Luona’s people to deal with them. Now they begged for mercy, making him awkward.

Initially, he just wanted to leverage Smoke’s power, given that the barely alive maiden was innocent. Like the master Lao, he was anxious.

But the more anxious he was, the messier things became. He had no idea how to address the current situation.

Igor was momentarily at a loss for words, not knowing what to say.

To the side, Kadi was ecstatic: ”If you want us to spare you, show your sincerity.”

Upon these words, the four from Smoke gained a new belief; it was a hope to continue surviving.

”We are willing to follow your orders; from today on, your matters are our matters, you are our new masters!”

These turncoats sure change quickly...

”Where is the sincerity?” But Kadi seemed disinterested in the oaths the Smoke organization just made, whether they could become the master of these four didn’t matter to Kadi.

”We wish to express our sincerity, but now we are helpless since we can’t move!” The four from Smoke explained to Igor and his companions.

”Fine, I don’t need you to move, just tell me how to rescue her!” Kadi pointed at the maiden again and asked, at this moment Igor realized how reliable Kadi could be!

The four looked at their former master’s remains, naturally arising with anxiety, facing these two youths’ queries without any means of resistance.

”We can’t move regarding the rescue matter...”

”Looks like you’re hopeless.” Kadi opened his hands, expressing a helpless gesture, meaning that he might not be able to protect them anymore.

Between the lines, the four idiots from Smoke could understand; they became agitated immediately.

For the four from Smoke, rescue was difficult since they usually did the opposite, often harming or killing; rescuing was unfamiliar...

But the situation forced them to think of ways to rescue because failure to do so would spell doom for themselves...

Igor looked at the four beaten, wounded fools, feeling a wave of pity, surprisingly thinking they might have an opportunity to contribute after all.

The master Lao kept the whole smithy warm and he separated the maiden from the Puppet Monster’s remains, laying a blanket over her, waiting for results from Igor and Kadi.

”Stop stalling or I’ll drain your Spirit Power and see how you turn out.” Kadi started threatening Smoke in the most primitive way, believing these bastards needed some pressure to perform.

”The, the, she’s lost too much blood...” Sims replied tremblingly; as a Wizard, he should master rescuing and healing skills, yet he only knew how to play with fire.

Pursuit of power led Smoke to abandon many things. It’s not easy for cold-hearted people to change, suddenly rescuing when they usually harm requires great courage.

Igor waited quietly, hoping Kadi would create a miracle.
