One-Eyed Monster

Kadi’s wish was noble, but Igor was like a block of wood, stubbornly clinging to his own logic. It seemed unlikely Igor would ever grasp Kadi’s intended hint.

Though Kadi was desperate, he was constrained by his duty to maintain the Fire Tree Silver Flower, and there was nothing he could do. How helpless!

As Igor had previously said, they were doomed.

Despite Kadi’s efforts, he couldn’t stop the light on the Fire Tree Silver Flower from dimming and then finally extinguishing.

Igor, you really need to speed up your comprehension, Kadi thought. If we wait until all the lights go out, all our previous efforts will be in vain. That will be the true point of no return!

Kadi firmly believed Igor would eventually find the way to comprehension; it just wasn’t the right time yet. While praying silently, he unceasingly maintained the Fire Tree Silver Flower, not wanting everyone’s efforts to be wasted because of him.

During this period, Kadi could only rely on his own power to maintain the Fire Tree Silver Flower. If Igor’s epiphany was the call to counterattack, then the Fire Tree Silver Flower Kadi maintained was their fundamental basis for that counterattack. If even this foundation disappeared, they truly could say goodbye to this world.

Igor also knew that their opponent, the Dark Force, was quite formidable. In terms of psychic attacks, this opponent could be described as unrivaled, even capable of reaping emotions. This type of Spirit World attack was practically invincible.

Furthermore, Igor discovered that the Dark Force reacted very quickly.

At first, Igor hadn’t paid much attention, but he later realized this Dark Force’s adaptability was incredibly swift.

Ever since Kadi’s Fire Tree Silver Flower had appeared, those who had been fighting the Dark Force individually suddenly became interconnected via Spirit Vision. Under Kuyi Tulan’s command, they even launched two impressive counterattacks.

However, within a split second, the Dark Force retaliated, severing all their connections once more, just as before.

Even though they stood together, seemingly resisting the Death Knights’ onslaught, in reality, they were still fighting alone. In other words, the Dark Force had severed their connections using another method.

As for why it wanted to prevent their communication, Igor speculated it was due to the Dark Force’s fear. The Dark Force fears our unity, Igor thought.

Everyone knew there was strength in unity. The moment they had been able to communicate, the Alchemy Workshop had displayed a powerful synergy and strength. Now that they were fragmented, each one was barely holding on, completely outmatched by the Dark Force.

Although this was just a conjecture, it wasn’t entirely unreasonable. Thinking about it now, Igor believed there was a high probability it was true.

He had initially wanted to share this discovery with Kuren through the Inner World, believing that only the master controller of the Inner World could awaken everyone engaged in the fierce combat.

However, Kuren had been misled by another of the enemy’s emotional manipulations and could no longer be contacted. The Kuren immersed in his own world was difficult to awaken.

Dodging the Death Knights’ attacks with difficulty, Igor’s inherent stubbornness prevented him from grasping Kadi’s suggestion to flee.

He still wanted to confront the Dark Force head-on and attract its attention. However, his strength was simply insufficient.

Even Kevin, a man of indescribably immense strength, hadn’t managed to draw the enemy’s focus, let alone a mediocre individual like himself.

Behind the Death Knights was an army marching in perfect unison. These soldiers advanced steadily, step by step, in neat formations.

The weapons in their hands were pointed at them, like a massive net, gradually enclosing them.

Igor noticed that in front of every combatant, there was a square formation, its size dependent on the combatant’s strength. The formation surrounding Kevin was particularly vast, enveloping him layer upon layer, but Kevin’s blade continually dealt severe blows to the encirclement, causing the surrounding ranks to swell.

Igor looked at his own situation: besides the two Death Knights attacking him, there was only a four-by-four square formation. The number of his opponents was pitifully small.

Still resisting? Igor sighed inwardly. The enemy hasn’t even taken me seriously. Even the formation dispatched to deal with me is the smallest size.

Just as Igor was struggling to resist, an unexpected figure entered his field of vision.

Within the four-by-four square formation was a face Igor knew very well.

The face still retained a trace of youthfulness; he was clearly the pampered son of a noble family.

”Hustace!” Igor couldn’t help but cry out. He never imagined Hustace would pick up a spear and aim it at him at a time like this.

Igor’s cry did not halt Hustace’s steps. His thin body was now clad in black armor, the spear in his hand glinting coldly.

”What’s wrong with you?” Igor blurted out, despite knowing the question was pointless.

But Hustace showed no reaction, continuing to close in on Igor with the formation, jabbing his spear at Igor from time to time.

These are puppets! Igor realized. Expressionless, devoid of thought, simply obeying commands. What’s the difference between these guys and the Death Knights facing them?

Igor sighed, his heart aching. That was his friend, Hustace, now devoured by the Dark Force and turned into a complete puppet.

I have to do something, Igor thought. But what can I do? I’ve been hounded all this time, with no chance to counterattack. No, I don’t have the ability to counterattack...

I can’t just leave Hustace like this, can I? Igor thought. But what can I do?!

Hustace’s appearance made Igor hesitant and indecisive.

Even though Igor wasn’t very strong, he could still withstand a few attacks. But now, with Hustace present, Igor didn’t even dare to resist.

I’m afraid of hurting Hustace!

For some reason, he suddenly felt deeply conflicted, as if an opponent had resorted to dirty tricks during a match. These tricks wouldn’t necessarily lead to his defeat, but they disgusted him.

For Igor, Hustace’s appearance was like a despicable tactic in this fight.

It left him speechless; after all, no rule forbade such a thing.

At this moment, Igor felt he could do nothing. Even filled with rage, he couldn’t bring himself to attack Hustace. Besides, even if he did, he doubted he could defeat the formation.

At this moment, Igor subconsciously remembered what Kadi had said earlier...

Flee then!
