One-Eyed Monster

The purple smoke occupied a large area, gradually devouring the green Corrosive Mist, which dissipated until it was entirely consumed...

After swallowing the green Corrosive Mist, the purple smoke also swiftly faded, its color growing paler until it vanished without a trace.

Thanks to the purple smoke, the Corrosive Mist now posed little threat...

The return of Moonflow Stream’s original colors allowed Kevin, who had been observing from the shadows while repairing his blade, to breathe a long sigh of relief. He seemed quite pleased. Seeing Moonflow Stream restored to its former state made him genuinely happy, and this joy lessened his hatred for the Alchemy Workshop by a small degree. However, his resentment for Kuyi Tulan remained undiminished.

Sometimes, I feel the Alchemy Workshop and Kuyi Tulan can be separated, Kevin thought. But most of the time, the workshop obeys Kuyi Tulan’s commands. I don’t understand why. Does Kuyi Tulan possess great authority, or does he coerce these inherently good people into doing things against their will?

Kevin pushed these thoughts aside. His original conviction held firm: Even if my feelings towards Kuyi Tulan’s Alchemy Workshop have improved slightly, an enemy is still an enemy. That will never change. Even though this enemy currently fights on the same side as me, I can’t just immediately set aside old grudges and make peace with Kuyi Tulan’s Alchemy Workshop. If I, Kevin, am to drop my prejudice against the Alchemy Workshop, there’s only one way: those people from the Alchemy Workshop must bring Kuyi Tulan before us and have him atone for his crimes. But that’s impossible, he thought, not dwelling on it further.

The Freak before them had yet to be dealt with. Although the green Corrosive Mist had been suppressed and Moonflow Stream was gradually returning to its original state, the creature’s fragments remained motionless, emitting only a few ghastly sounds.

Kevin’s blade was almost fully repaired. He figured he could use the opening created by Milo of the Alchemy Workshop’s attack to deliver another heavy blow to the Freak.

A nerve twitched in Wizard Reed’s mind. By now, I’ve figured out this creature’s temperament, he thought. This indicates it’s about to launch another attack. It’s just that the interval between its attacks is very, very long. Could it be that time in this creature’s Alternate Dimension flows differently from this world? Wizard Reed let his thoughts wander. Then, he suddenly realized he had made a grave error. I summoned this creature here; I’m essentially its anchor. It needs my guidance in many respects. Yet, I haven’t fulfilled that role at all. I’ve just been lost in my own thoughts, constantly hiding… Of course, I must remain well hidden. My true body cannot be discovered. I’m not confident I can face such formidable Spirit Power alone. If my true form is found, I’ll be defeated. Therefore, I can only stay concealed, relying on my avatars and these Summoned Creatures to contend with these powerful individuals. So, what I need to do now is find a way to communicate with this creature as quickly as possible, so I can react promptly when it attacks.

Before Wizard Reed could devise a way to communicate with the creature, Kevin’s blade reappeared. His figure, swift as Lightning, flashed by with a WHOOSH, WHOOSH, instantly putting everyone on high alert again.

He really moves like the wind, Milo couldn’t help but think. The Empire’s League Guard, Kevin, is truly decisive. On the battlefield, he never hesitated. His swift blade quickly intimidated the soldiers of the other two empires. Even the valiant Mantai Soldiers would give a thumbs-up in lengthy praise when mentioning the Kayne Empire’s League Guard…

Kevin was just that kind of person; he wouldn’t give his enemies a single moment’s respite.

But when his blade struck the opponent’s body, he encountered immense resistance, completely different from the previous two times.

Nothing had ever been able to obstruct his blade before!

This time, his blade was forcefully repelled. If he hadn’t been agile enough, he might have been thrown to the ground. This time, his blade didn’t seem to strike flesh, nor anything hard. Instead, it felt as if it had hit something soft and yielding. The blade felt as if it had sunk in and become stuck, impossible to pull out. Kevin had never experienced such a sensation before. Then, this soft, yielding thing seemed to possess an elastic force that directly flung him away…

Kevin was momentarily stunned. What in the world is this thing? Isn’t the enemy supposed to be corpse fragments?

When he calmed down and observed carefully, the Freak had already begun to stir. This time, those so-called fragments started to rotate continuously in place, emitting strange, guttural sounds.

No one could figure out what the creature was doing. Just as everyone was wondering, the fragments scattered on the ground suddenly whirled together with a CLATTERING sound, fusing into one piece. It seemed the creature’s fragments had completed a unification!

After merging, the creature resembled a snake. It moved its body, emitting strange, guttural cries of ”OOH... OOH...”

Moreover, its writhing body brought about other changes. The green Corrosive Mist it had initially released gradually vanished completely. Now, a dense black Smoke enveloped the creature’s body. This dark Smoke was thick, spreading out to both sides and completely engulfing the purple smoke Milo had left behind.

This creature slowly revealed its bizarre nature. During this time, it continuously transformed. Although the process was slow, each change produced astonishing effects.

Both Milo and Kevin had managed one successful attack, but now they were dumbfounded. They realized the creature seemed to possess a peculiar ability: it could rapidly adapt to its opponent’s attacks.

First, it was Kevin’s blade, and now Milo’s Alchemy Potion. The creature adapted to both within a short period. Not only did it adapt to the attacks, but it also developed an immunity. Now, this thing feared neither Kevin’s swift blade nor Milo’s Alchemy Potion.

This was simply baffling.

Milo was perplexed. Kevin also fell silent.

What do we do now? they wondered. The enemy seems invincible before us, and we still know nothing about it.

They didn’t know its methods of attack, nor its weaknesses, let alone what this thing truly was.

Previously, they had all thought this creature was a Freak, but now, no matter how they looked at it, it didn’t seem to be one. No Freak would ever take the form of a slithering snake.

Neither Kevin nor Milo had ever imagined things would develop like this. It was utterly inconceivable.

It could be said that in this fierce battle, Kevin and Milo had suffered a complete rout!
