Ascension from Dual Professions

Chapter 157: Chapter 155: Clash of Power

The Trade Hall Guards and Defender Army were still too far away to reach the battlefield. Meanwhile, frigid curses and Poisoned Blades from the Eternal Frost Sect tore through the air, seething with desperate fury as they hurtled toward the two figures lost in their embrace amidst the wind and snow.

But just then, a series of deafening explosions, like divine punishment, suddenly erupted amidst the dense, charging ranks of the Eternal Frost Cultists!

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Violent shockwaves carrying scorching metal fragments and searing heat instantly tore apart the blue-robed cultists at the vanguard, flinging them into the air. Their piercing screams were completely drowned out by the thunder of the explosions.

At the same time, a warm and resilient golden barrier of light silently materialized around Jon and Rosalind.

The incoming Ice Cones and spells struck the barrier, only stirring ripples of golden light before vanishing completely, like a stone tossed into the ocean.

It was the Church twins, Xia and Xina.

Knowing that Meis Town’s forces were thin, how could Jon possibly have forgotten about these two powerful allies when he rushed back to Birch Town?

After ensuring the [Seal of Light] he had placed on Paris’s daughter, Emily, wouldn’t fail even if left unattended, he had flown back with the sisters.

His dramatic entrance earlier had been partly to stake his claim on Rosalind and partly to provide cover for their movements.

So, that passionate kiss, which ignored the approaching enemy, had only seemed incredibly dangerous. In reality, they had been perfectly safe.

At this moment, high in the sky, Xia flapped her Light Wings like a deadly Battle Angel, her face flushed with a mixture of nervousness and excitement.

She juggled the explosives Jon had given her, and whenever she spotted a cluster of cultists, she would hurl one down without a moment’s hesitation.

”Ha! Take this, you heretics! Have a taste of my power! Here comes another one!”

She had no qualms about using such an unconventional weapon to slaughter the heretics below.

Her crisp laughter mingled with the booms of the explosions, carrying a peculiar sense of cruelty and absurdity.

Slightly below her, her sister, Xina, wore a focused and solemn expression, her hands held in a posture of sacred prayer.

A continuous stream of pure Sun’s Saint Radiance flowed from her, precisely infusing the barrier of light that protected Jon and Rosalind, causing it to grow even more solid.

She murmured a prayer, ensuring the absolute safety of the pair below, her golden eyes vigilantly scanning the Eternal Frost Cultists for any movement.

”Damn the Sun Sect!”

Midia’s furious roar overpowered the lingering echoes of the explosions. The collapse of his faith had completely transformed into a bone-deep hatred for Jon.

Seeing his assault thwarted, his gaunt face twisted into an expression of grim resolve.

”Form the Array! Freeze the mortal world, and freeze their blasphemous souls!”

He roared, ignoring the threat from the sky, and quickly gathered with several other High Tier cultists who possessed similarly powerful auras.

They formed complex, icy Hand Seals and began chanting in an even more ancient and obscure tongue.

A chill, far more sinister and concentrated than before, began to gather madly around them. Moisture in the air instantly froze into countless tiny Ice Crystals. Beneath their feet, a complex Frost Array, emitting an ominous, ethereal blue light, rapidly took shape.

At the same time, Midia flicked a withered finger toward Vedri and Julian, who were leading the charge with the combined Defender Army and Trade Hall Guards.

”Spiritual Puppets! Stop them!”

The few Spiritual Puppets—figures wrapped in white bandages, their faces hidden by blank, featureless masks—were like lifeless marionettes. But in an instant, they exploded forward with a terrifying speed that belied their stiff movements, brazenly intercepting the charge of the Trade Hall Guards and the Defender Army!

Though they possessed no special abilities, their immense Power and incredibly tough bodies allowed them to ignore the blades striking them. With simple gestures, they sent several guards flying, forcibly stalling the momentum of the reinforcements’ charge.

Seeing this, Vedri and Julian realized the situation was dire and immediately led their elite troops to engage the Spiritual Puppets.

Meanwhile, the kiss in the snowstorm—the one that had staked his claim—finally ended.

Jon slowly raised his head. His ice-blue eyes held none of the hazy stupor of passion. Instead, they were as calm and solid as stone.

After a quick glance at the Eternal Frost Cultists, he gently patted Rosalind’s back.

The daze in Rosalind’s silver eyes melted away like snow, instantly replaced by her usual cool clarity. She gently let go of him and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Jon.

Jon’s gaze was like lightning, instantly sweeping over the entire battlefield. His commands were clear and decisive.

”Xia! Forget the ground troops! Go help Big Mimi engage that young dragon! She’s no match for it! Don’t let those two disrupt the battlefield!”

”Xina! Shift the Shield to cover the guards! Prioritize protecting the Warriors!”

The instant he issued the commands, he didn’t wait to see the twins’ reaction. Instead, he locked his gaze on the core of the Frost Array being formed by Midia and his cohorts, raised his right hand, and began to channel his Magic Power.

BOOM—!!!

The violent power of [Shockwave Blast] erupted!

A transparent shockwave, visible only by the way it distorted the air, shot forward like an invisible sledgehammer, crashing into the ghostly blue Frost Array with overwhelming force!

However, the expected scene—the Array shattering and the cultists being sent flying—did not happen.

Just as the shockwave was about to strike, the blue light engulfing the High Tier cultists flared. The Frost Array at their feet abruptly projected a thick, translucent barrier covered in crystalline patterns!

The power of [Shockwave Blast]—enough to shatter boulders and level buildings—slammed into the seemingly fragile Ice Crystal barrier. Yet, it only produced violent ripples and a spray of ice shards, accompanied by a deafening, resonant boom, like the tolling of a great bell!

The Ice Crystal barrier pulsed violently and cracks spread across its surface, but it stubbornly held together, refusing to shatter!

A twisted, fanatical sneer even touched Midia’s lips. His chanting never faltered. At the Array’s center, the terrifying, soul-freezing chill continued to intensify as the ethereal blue light grew ever brighter. The ritual had clearly not been interrupted.

Jon’s eyes narrowed slightly as he watched the barrier pulsate violently but ultimately hold firm. His expression showed no hint of discouragement or surprise.

On the contrary, the corner of his mouth curled into a cold, mocking smirk.

’Heh. A tough shell.’

he murmured, his voice perfectly calm.

To him, the failed attempt at disruption was nothing more than a way to gauge the strength of their defense.

Deep within Jon’s ice-blue eyes, a sliver of the Ash Disaster Dragon King’s violent will and a cold, calculated assessment of the battlefield converged, burning like fire and ice.

’Looks like I’ll have to get serious... Let me show you a new trick I’ve learned!’

In the next instant, a torrent of roaring flames surged from his body, coalescing into a massive dragon’s head.
