Ascension from Dual Professions

Chapter 152: Chapter 151: Eternal Frost Saintess Rosalind

The dense, flowing white mist spread with incredible speed, blanketing the entirety of Birch Town in just over ten minutes.

It quickly rose from ankle-deep to waist-high, until it was so thick you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face.

This eerie phenomenon naturally sparked panic among the town’s residents and merchants.

As Northern People, who among them hadn’t heard the terrifying legend: ”When the white fog rises, Eternal Frost arrives”?

The Eternal Frost Sect was here!

Countless people descended into chaos. Some, driven by a primal instinct to survive, tried to flee the town. The more clever ones gathered their families and rushed toward the Sun Church. And then there were the reckless fiends who cared more for coin than their own lives, who immediately began to loot and plunder in the confusion.

The ensuing chaos was simply indescribable.

And this was all before the members of the Eternal Frost Sect had even shown themselves.

Faced with this situation, the Sun Church’s Defender Army, having taken charge of the town’s security, could not simply stand by. Led by Julian, they worked alongside Birch Town’s original guards, rushing to and fro to calm the residents and stabilize the situation.

Ingram and Wade, two senior Official Level Priests, even brought out the Treasure Pearl from the church’s spire—the one that symbolized the Sun—to establish a safe zone around the Sun Church and protect the residents gathering there.

But it was all happening too fast.

With only about a hundred men in the Defender Army, plus another hundred from the town guard, their total force of just over two hundred was nowhere near enough to manage the entire town. They could only do their best.

Moreover, their attempts to restore order clearly conflicted with the Eternal Frost Sect’s goal of creating chaos to welcome their Holy Son. It wasn’t long before they began to face one attack after another.

”We can’t go on like this—”

After fending off a wave of fanatical, blue-robed cultists and the monsters they led, Julian, clad in full armor and holding his Sword and Shield, issued a command with a grim expression.

”We’ll go inform the Golden Maple Leaf Trading House. Ask them to dispatch their forces to help us fight these cultists.”

”At the same time, we need to escort Miss Reya Xavier to the Church and ensure her safety. Hurry, move out!”

Julian’s orders were carried out immediately.

The squad, composed of Defender Warriors and loyal guards, trudged with difficulty through the increasingly dense, bone-chilling white fog.

The icy fog now reached the height of the rooftops. Every step felt like wading through a frigid river. They could barely discern the blurred outlines of the comrades beside them, their ears filled only with the chaotic screams and cries in the distance and the heavy panting right beside them.

For the Defender Warriors, with their strong sense of justice, it was sheer torment.

”Stay quiet! Keep low!”

Julian was suffering just as much, but he could only keep his voice to a whisper.

He gripped his Holy Emblem, his body emitting a faint golden glow that offered guidance and protection to the squad members behind him.

After what felt like an eternity of groping through the dense fog, the view ahead finally changed.

The mist seemed to have been parted by some unseen force, revealing the faint outline of a magnificent building—the familiar, emblem-adorned main gate of the Golden Maple Leaf Trading House.

However, before Julian and his squad could even sigh in relief, an oppressive presence washed over them. It was far colder, heavier, and more tinged with madness than anything they had yet encountered. They held their breath in an instant, their hearts seized as if by an icy hand.

Peering through the swirling fog, they witnessed a heart-stopping scene.

The sturdy metal gates of the Golden Maple Leaf Trading House were shut tight. In the narrow, open street before them, a dark mass of figures had gathered.

Their leader, draped in a deep blue Priest’s Robe, stood with both hands raised to the heavens. His emaciated body trembled with fanaticism as a high-pitched, twisted chant escaped his lips.

Behind him, several other High Tier cultists, dressed in the same deep blue and exuding powerful auras, were prostrated on the ground, piously echoing the Priest’s prayer.

But what was truly terrifying were the beings they stood guard over.

Several ”figures” wrapped in unsettling white bandages stood like statues, their faces covered by plain, featureless white masks. They radiated an intense, chilling aura.

Behind these eerie figures, the silhouette of a behemoth loomed in and out of the fog—it was an abnormally massive ”young dragon”!

Its entire body was covered in frost-white scales, with thick icicles clinging to the gaps between them. Its massive head was lowered, its ice-blue, vertical pupils fixed emotionlessly on the trading house gate. Each heavy breath exhaled a great plume of white mist laced with ice shards, and the very air around it seemed to crackle as it froze.

All of them—the Priest, the cultists, the bandaged monsters, and even the Frost White Young Dragon that radiated a terrifying chill—faced the Golden Maple Leaf Trading House. In a posture of near-worship, they chanted in unison the obscure, blasphemous scriptures of Eternal Frost.

”The Ice Age, all returns to silence... The breath of our Lord calls to all living souls...”

”The sacred seed awakens in the snow... to lead us back to the eternal frozen earth...”

The low, fanatical wave of voices converged into an invisible Impact, crashing against the trading house’s sturdy gate and causing the surrounding fog to roil violently.

They weren’t launching a direct assault, but performing some kind of prayer ritual!

And the target of their prayers seemed to be someone inside the trading house!

The Golden Maple Leaf Trading House’s gates were shut tight, but through the cracks in the entryway and the windows on either side, figures could be seen standing ready for battle.

They were clearly under immense pressure. Facing the sinister, powerful assembly outside and a chant that felt like a spiritual pollution penetrating the very doors, everyone inside was desperately resisting the encroaching fear and cold. Their eyes were locked on the scene outside, ready for a bloody battle at a moment’s notice.

Separated by the gate and the dense fog, the two sides were locked in a suffocating stalemate.

Watching this, Julian desperately wanted to charge and attack these detestable heretics, but he forcibly suppressed the urge.

Reason told him that charging in with just his small squad would be suicide. Not only would they fail to save anyone, but they would alert the enemy. Worse, they might disrupt the defensive rhythm of the Trade Hall Guards inside, giving the cultists the very opening they were waiting for.

His mission was to join forces and protect the key target!

Gritting his teeth, Julian made a hand signal to the squad behind him. He indicated for them to hold their breath, stay low, and use the fog as cover. Cautiously, they began to circle around from the side, looking for an opportunity to approach a side or back entrance to the trading house and make contact with the people inside.

However, just as Julian’s squad moved like shadows along the edge of the dense fog, searching for a way in, something suddenly changed!

The chanting of the Eternal Frost Cultists suddenly surged, reaching a frenzied crescendo!

The sound seemed to carry a strange resonance, causing even the surrounding white fog to vibrate and swirl violently, as if answering a summons.

”The Holy Son descends! Purge the filth!”

”The Holy Son descends! Eternal Frost ushers in silence!”

Then, in front of the fanatically kneeling figures in deep blue, under the cold gaze of the Frost White Young Dragon, and before the shocked and disbelieving eyes of the Golden Maple Leaf Trade Hall Guards—

A slender, aloof figure slowly emerged from within the sealed gates of the trading house.

It was Rosalind.
