Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1405: Chapter 756: The Fermentation of News

The vanguard set out, and Lance neither said any motivational words nor intended to make an appearance.

Although most of Hamlet’s are light runs of six, eight pounds, and Totnes’ are usually heavy ones of twelve, sixteen pounds, Barton also didn’t command so many cannons when he was in Totnes.

The quality of the troops also varied. At least, paired with their infantry, the cavalry wouldn’t strategically retreat in the middle of a fight, exposing them to the enemy.

Similarly, the enemy wasn’t some extraordinary power-warped monster, just some fragmented territories. If Barton couldn’t win against them, he might as well go back to farming.

In fact, compared to the front lines, organizing the territories in the rear was more challenging. Otherwise, Lance would prefer to stay in the city waiting for good news rather than having to follow along, as it was not something an ordinary person could handle.

All they needed to do at the front lines was to fight bravely, while Lance had many more things to think about at the rear.

”Boss! Time to wake up~!”

”Stop yelling, you’re staying by my side; I’m not sending you to the front lines.”

With just a sentence, Lance silenced Boudica. She had been very excited since the announcement of the battle, so Lance brought her along to prevent any jokes at home.

She could be a bodyguard, as he was too lazy to fight himself.

”Uh, I thought I’d be better off playing with the dogs...” Boudica suddenly looked dejected, knowing full well there wouldn’t be much fighting opportunity at the rear.

”What did you say?” Lance glanced at her, feeling like there was more to her words.

”I heard from Fergus that those female wolves are about to give birth.”

Lance knew Fergus was William’s hound. When everyone was busy, she would leisurely help walk the dog and had no other activities. She usually went to the dog training area to play with those wolves, waiting for her own.

But how could she understand dog language? Could it be Boudica had an undiscovered animal affinity supernatural ability?

”Wow, you can even understand Fergus?”

”Of course, Fergus and I heard it from William.” Boudica shot a pitiful glance at Lance and whispered, ”How can a person understand dog language? Boss, your mind’s not working well...”

”Shut up!” Lance immediately knocked her on the head, feeling that this rascal was just itching for a good talk.

”Ah~” Boudica complained while holding her head, ”Boss, why hit me?”

”Just checking if your head’s working properly,” Lance laughed as he ruffled her fiery red hair, feeling a bit itchy to do so.

But he didn’t mind; even the fiercest lions had to listen to him obediently.

By this time, the infantry had already set out, followed by a logistics convoy, with carts pulled by mules and oxen. The formation stretched out due to the lack of suitable routes.

Even for this army of three thousand not yet at full strength, the logistics required were immense, making Lance understand that historical claims of hundreds of thousands of troops likely meant just ten to twenty thousand elite soldiers, with the rest being logistics personnel.

Otherwise, how could such a massive force be maintained in the low productivity of the feudal era, needing so many logistics?

At this time, the hundred or so people trained as emergency staff officers were already assembled, all noticeably under thirty, with some even looking just fourteen or fifteen, barely adults.

Once past youth, a person’s learning ability begins to deteriorate as cognition becomes rigid, a double effect of physiology and psychology.

However, during adolescence and young adulthood, the capacity to absorb information is quite strong. The earlier basic training had eradicated illiteracy, and with Lance now imparting new knowledge, they quickly gained understanding of policies and tasks, at least preventing misunderstandings of Lance’s orders.

Although Hamlet wasn’t a very large district, Lance feared a situation where ”good at the top, bad at the bottom” might occur, possibly causing him to unravel.

”Let’s go, it’s time for us to depart.”

Lance boarded a plain carriage where Grendel was already waiting inside, while Boudica, needing something to do, took the reins to drive, as idleness made her uncomfortable.

The others, however, didn’t enjoy such luxury and instead hitched a ride on a flatbed truck transporting supplies...

Hamlet’s Army boldly marched south, and though it was early morning, it still alarmed quite a few people.

Previously, actions were carried out under the pretext of eliminating evil cultists, and moving northwards had been an internal maneuver, attracting little attention.

But now things were different, with the army heading directly south, and that area held no evil cult but rather numerous noble territories.

Despite topics being stirred within the city prior, having just emerged from the Blood Moon, most people lacked the energy to focus on this matter.

Later, when cultists were captured and brought back, talks of noble encroachments on Hamlet reemerged.

But attention swiftly shifted to another event, with media then focusing on an incident at that school, implicating more individuals.

Following the nature of public curiosity, everyone naturally paid more attention to immediate events, thus ignoring the earlier brief territorial dispute publicity.

Who knew they’d follow through with it!

The residents of Hamlet exhibited a fervent supportive attitude, placing great faith in the Lord to succeed and overthrow those evil nobles.

One could say that Lance’s presence embodied their hatred for the nobles—they couldn’t fight them, but the Lord could.
