Transmigrated as an Unwanted Ugly Girl

Chapter 698: Chapter 360: Juhua’s Frustration

Qin Feng asked, his face full of pleasant surprise, ”Junior Sister, you’ve observed so carefully. Did you take any notes?”

Yun Ying was taken aback. ”I... I didn’t write anything down. I wasn’t thinking that far ahead. I was just observing him and Zhao Feng from the Zhao family more closely—the two of them have so many different habits.”

Qin Feng smiled. ”Of course they’re different, but they probably share some common traits. When we treat patients, don’t we create a unique prescription for each person? From now on, you should try to be more mindful. Jot down your observations on paper whenever you can. Once you’ve accumulated enough, you’ll become familiar with the habits of young children. You can then inform their parents. This is a form of ’treating an illness before it manifests,’ which is much better than them taking poor care of their children and only seeking a doctor after they fall ill.”

Yun Ying was overjoyed and nodded repeatedly. From then on, whenever she saw a young child, she would go closer, and the little ones found it easy to be affectionate with her.

She then turned to little Hulu and said with mock dissatisfaction, ”Hulu, my dear, Aunt Yun and your auntie take care of you so often. How come you don’t call out to us?”

Little Hulu smiled at her, and after a moment, he called out, ”Aunty!” Then his eyes darted around the room. Not seeing Juhua, he pointed toward the door and said, ”Auntie? Juhua—”

This sent everyone into another burst of laughter.

Yang Family smiled, her eyes crinkling. She came over, picked him up, and set him on her lap. ”In a couple of days, we’ll take you to see Auntie Juhua,” she told him. ”Auntie gave birth to a little brother and a little sister. Hulu has a baby brother and a baby sister now!”

Zhang Dashuan said happily to Hulu, ”From now on, you’ll be just like your dad and Uncle Huai Zi when they were little, running all over the fields.”

Qingmu laughed. ”These babies have done nothing but sleep since they were born. Their personalities aren’t showing yet, so what should we name them? Juhua was the one who named our Hulu. As their maternal uncle, I have to claim the right to name one of them so I don’t get left out. Tomorrow, I’ll take a good look at the two of them and see which vegetable or spring onion in the garden suits them best.”

Yun Ying snorted with laughter when she heard this—she had also heard Juhua mention their family’s naming customs before.

Zhang Dashuan hurriedly interjected, ”That won’t do! Of course, I should be the one to name them...” At that, Zheng Changhe also began to vie for the honor.

Qin Feng smiled. ”The two babies were born a few days early. Although there are no major problems, they still need to be kept inside for a while longer. You can only bring them out once they’ve grown stronger, so you’ll all have to be patient.”

With that, the group finally fell silent, agreeing to name the babies at their one-month celebration.

Early the next morning, after Qin Feng and Yun Ying had examined Juhua and changed her dressing, Yun Ying brought her some freshly made light congee and fish soup. Juhua had a little of each, then endured the pain to get out of bed with Yun Ying’s support and walk a lap around the room.

Although she was cooped up in her room and her body was quite uncomfortable, she felt her spirits soar. It was as if she had been reborn. Because of this, she kept pestering Yun Ying to open the window so she could see the trees and vegetable garden in the backyard.

But Yun Ying said, ”The door is open, so it’s not stuffy in here. The autumn wind is chilly. We can’t open the window.”

Juhua looked toward the door, but a blue curtain blocked her view, and she couldn’t see a thing. Though disappointed, she knew this wasn’t the time to be willful. ’I’m not a child anymore.’ She changed the subject, ”Then can you bring the babies here for me to see?” ’I still haven’t laid eyes on the precious babies I gave birth to.’

Yun Ying carefully helped her lie back down in bed and smiled. ”If you ask me, you should just be patient. Otherwise, if we bring them over, you can’t nurse them or even hold them. Wouldn’t that just make you more anxious? Just focus on recovering for two more days. Once your wound has healed a bit more, we’ll bring them to you. You’ll have your hands full then. Two little tykes... I reckon you’re gonna be plum tuckered out.” She said the last part in a clumsy imitation of Juhua’s rustic accent and couldn’t help but find herself funny.

”What? Two babies? Aiyo—” Juhua cried out, abruptly trying to sit up. The sharp pain made her break out in a cold sweat, and she couldn’t stop groaning, ”Aiyo, aiyo...”

Yun Ying jumped in fright and quickly pushed her back down. ”Are you trying to kill yourself?” she said, exasperated. ”Do you think you’re all healed? It’s two babies, so what? No one is going to steal them from you. Wait, you didn’t know?”

Qin Feng, who had been in the main hall writing rapidly, heard the commotion and rushed in. ”What happened?” he asked in surprise. ”Juhua, you have to be careful. You can’t be moving around recklessly right now.”

Juhua’s lips trembled as she spoke. ”No one told me... that I had two babies. You all... and Huai Zi... why didn’t he tell me?”

During the surgery, she had not only been given an anesthetic, but Qin Feng had also used silver needles to put her into a deep, unaware slumber. Naturally, she had no idea how many babies she’d had.

Yun Ying was torn between amusement and alarm. She quickly said to Qin Feng, ”Senior Brother, please step out for a moment. I need to check on her. I’m afraid she might have just torn her wound open.” At the same time, she soothed Juhua, ”Everyone must have been so focused on you that it slipped their minds. Or it was just a mix-up. We thought Brother Huai Zi told you, and he probably thought we told you. Who would’ve guessed that in the end, nobody said a thing?”

Juhua could only fume in silence. ’Could anything possibly be more absurd? All this time, and I didn’t even know I had given birth to twins.’

’This must be my punishment,’ she thought. ’Last night, my husband and I had a whole hour to ourselves, and we spent it all being sweet to each other. Huai Zi just said the babies were doing fine with Aunt Liu and told me not to worry—that I should focus on getting better so I could nurse them. I thought that made sense, so I didn’t make a fuss. Who knew that not asking one or two more questions would cause me this much grief today.’

After Yun Ying had re-dressed her wound, Qin Feng came back in and took her pulse. Then, with a stern expression, he said, ”You must never be so reckless again. You have to understand, you cannot afford the slightest bit of carelessness at this stage.”

He then said to Yun Ying, ”For the next few days, let her see fewer people and don’t discuss anything that might trouble her. Zhang Huai should visit less often as well. She needs less contemplation, less worry, and less emotional fluctuation. She must keep her spirit turned inward. Once her wound heals a bit more, I will use medicine and acupuncture to slowly nurse her back to health.”

Juhua said guiltily, ”I was reckless. I’ll be careful from now on. But... can’t you tell things like that from reading someone’s pulse? Why didn’t you tell me I was carrying twins?” ’She refused to believe the two of them hadn’t known beforehand; their pulse-reading skills were far too good.’

Seeing that she was still asking questions, Qin Feng said with a helpless sigh, ”Can’t you figure it out? We were afraid you would panic if you knew. You needed the abdominal surgery regardless, and adding another complication would only have caused unnecessary turmoil, so we kept it from you. Things were chaotic enough as they were. If we had added the dangers of a twin birth to the mix, I’m afraid even Huai Zi might not have been able to bear it. You have to understand, that morning, you were... Ai, forget it. It’s all in the past now.” (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to come to Qidian.com to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
