Transmigrated as an Unwanted Ugly Girl

Chapter 695: Chapter 359: Qin Feng’s Promise

Yang Family and He carried the two babies into the room. Yang Family couldn’t stop crying. ”They both look like Juhua, and like Zhang Huai, too,” she said. ”Yes... their eyes and brows are like Zhang Huai’s, but those little mouths are just like Juhua’s when she was a girl. And their noses are like Juhua’s, too.”

He’s eyes were red. She brought the baby girl to Liu Heizi’s wife. ”Sister Liu,” she said, ”I’m afraid our Juhua won’t be able to nurse for a few days. We’ll have to trouble you for now.” Turning to Yang Family, she added, ”You can’t cry today. You’ll make your eyes all red, and if Juhua sees you like that, she’ll be upset.” ’There was one more thing she didn’t say: with Juhua’s life hanging in the balance, wasn’t all this crying just asking for bad luck?’

Aunt Liu took the baby and said consolingly, ”The Young Madam gave birth to twins! This is a joyous occasion; you should be happy. Mother-in-law, rest assured, the Young Madam will surely be fine. And Lady, it’s my good fortune to be able to nurse the young master. Oh my, just look at this little one! So perfectly formed.”

Yang Family seemed to snap out of it, saying quickly, ”Yes! No crying, no crying! This is a happy occasion! Heh heh, we should be laughing!” As she spoke, she forced a smile that looked even more painful than her tears.

He’s heart ached seeing this. Worried about Juhua, she said to Yang Family, ”You stay here with Aunt Liu and watch the babies. I’ll go see if Zhang Huai needs any help.”

Yang Family quickly agreed. Suddenly, she cried out, ”Where’s Hulu? I haven’t seen my little Hulu all afternoon! Qingmu! Qingmu—”

Qingmu answered from outside. Hearing his mother looking for Hulu, he called out, ”I had Heiya take him to play! Heiya—”

Heiya came trotting out from the kitchen. ”First Uncle,” she said, ”Hulu got tired from playing, so I put him to sleep on the Young Madam’s bed. I just went to check on him, and he’s sleeping soundly!”

Hearing this, He patted Yang Family’s hand. ”Don’t you worry, I’ll go check on him.”

Just as the men were waiting on tenterhooks, and Yang Family and He were forcing down their anxiety by making food for Doctor Qin and Yun Ying in the kitchen, the door to the birthing room finally opened. Doctor Qin emerged, completely covered from head to toe. Liu Yunlan followed, similarly covered, carrying a basin of wastewater and a basket of soiled linens on her arm.

Zhang Huai grabbed Qin Feng’s arm, his voice trembling. ”Doctor Qin, is Juhua...”

Qin Feng pulled down his mask and let out a breath, nodding wearily. ”Juhua’s fine.”

Overjoyed, Zhang Huai asked eagerly, ”Can I go in and see her?”

Qin Feng thought for a moment. ”Change into a clean set of clothes and put on a mask. You can go in for a quick look, but come right back out. Don’t stay long. She can’t talk much right now anyway. You can go in and stay with her later this evening.”

Zhang Huai nodded frantically and rushed back to his room to prepare. He suddenly remembered that no one was guarding the door and stopped in his tracks. When Qingmu came in, Zhang Huai grabbed him. ”You stand guard here. Don’t let anyone in. I’m going to change so I can see Juhua.” Before Qingmu could even answer, he turned and bolted toward the bedroom.

’Of course, he wanted to go in and see his sister too, but that was impossible,’ Qingmu thought, watching him go with a helpless look on his face. ’He hadn’t even been allowed in when his own wife gave birth. Zhang Huai was only able to go because he had Doctor Qin’s permission.’

Zheng Changhe and Zhang Dashuan rushed forward, flanking Qin Feng with anxious looks on their faces. ”Doctor Qin—” Zheng Changhe began. Seeing Yang Family and He also hurrying into the main hall, Qin Feng cut him off before he could ask his question. ”Let’s go,” he said to all of them. ”We’ll talk outside!”

So the group escorted Qin Feng to the kitchen. It was farther from the bedroom and they were less likely to disturb Juhua. Besides, He had finished preparing a meal and wanted Doctor Qin to eat something. The man had been working hard all morning; they couldn’t let him go hungry.

First, Qin Feng removed his hat, gloves, and outer coat, handing them to Liu Yunlan to be washed.

Then he stretched his arms and sat down at the small square table. He took the bowl and chopsticks He handed him and faced the steaming dishes. But just as he took his first bite, he felt four pairs of expectant eyes fixed on him. ’How was he supposed to swallow with them staring like that?’

So, he put down his chopsticks with a wry smile. ”Uncle Zheng, Aunt Zheng, Uncle Zhang, Aunt Zhang... whatever you want to know, just ask.”

Instantly, the anxious parents threw politeness to the wind, letting loose a barrage of jumbled questions. They were all variations on the same theme: Was Juhua in immediate danger? Would there be any lasting damage to her health?

Qin Feng had agonized over Juhua’s delivery for months. At one point, he’d felt completely helpless, a frustration that had weighed heavily on him. But now, he spoke with crisp, firm confidence. ”Juhua is fine. I will see to it that she recovers fully, without a single lingering issue. In a few years, she’ll be able to get pregnant and give birth again, no problem.”
