Transmigrated as an Unwanted Ugly Girl

Chapter 694: Chapter 358: Juhua’s Childbirth, Part 2

Qingmu said miserably, ”Dad, you saw how Mom reacted when she heard. If we’d told you sooner, you all would have panicked and upset Juhua. She hasn’t been feeling well for the past few days. How could we possibly add to her worries? We were actually planning to wait until you’d gone to the fields, then call you back after Juhua had the baby. That way you would’ve had less to worry about. What’s the point of saying all this now? Hurry and help calm down Mom and Aunt He. We can’t have them crying when Juhua wakes up. It’s important that she’s happy.”

Zhang Dashuan suppressed his anger and nodded. ”Changhe, we can’t worry about that now. Let’s at least wait until after Juhua gives birth. Doctor Qin is a reliable man. He wouldn’t trifle with Juhua’s life. We need to stay calm and not get in their way.”

Wiping his tears, Zheng Changhe said, ”I’m not blaming them, it’s just... it’s just... I’m so scared! I know Doctor Qin and his junior apprentice are doing everything they can for Juhua. They must have had no other choice to resort to this. Otherwise, they wouldn’t just be messing around.”

Seeing his father shed tears, Qingmu couldn’t bear it, and his own eyes reddened. He said to him, ”Dad, this isn’t Doctor Qin messing around. This is a secret technique his master passed down to him. He wouldn’t use it unless it was an absolute last resort. And even when he does, he’s extremely careful. Just look at how they’re treating Aunt Liu—they’re more attentive to her than they would be to their own mothers!”

Zheng Changhe and Zhang Dashuan nodded repeatedly at his words. With the living example of Liu Heizi’s wife right there, they felt a bit more at ease. It seemed Qin Feng had considered this and brought her over for this very reason.

Qingmu continued, ”We’ve been preparing for Juhua’s situation for a long time. It’s nothing like when Aunt Liu had her difficult labor—there were no preparations at all; they just had to cut her open. Doctor Qin said if they’d been any later, the baby would have suffocated. Even so, Uncle Liu didn’t hesitate. He followed Doctor Qin’s instructions and stood guard at the door, just like Huai Zi. Didn’t he have to make an even tougher decision? He didn’t even have a moment to think about it.”

It was like a wake-up call for Zhang Dashuan. He said hurriedly, ”Quick, tell your mother and the others to go boil water and make soup! Stop asking questions, you’re just wasting time! We can ask when this is all over.”

Qingmu said, ”I’ve already told Heipi to boil water. We simmer a pot of soup every night, so it’s ready. But Doctor Qin said Juhua can’t eat right after the birth. She has to wait a full day.”

Zheng Changhe asked, ”Won’t she starve? Besides, if she doesn’t eat, the baby won’t have any milk.”

Qingmu smiled faintly. ”Isn’t Aunt Liu here? She has plenty of milk. Doctor Yun said she will take care of Juhua later, so we don’t need to worry about a thing. I’ve told Yunlan to follow her instructions.”

The two men finally relaxed. For a moment, they felt like there was nothing left for them to do, but they couldn’t just casually go off to work in the fields, so they didn’t know what to do with themselves.

Qingmu instructed, ”We have to keep this a secret from outsiders. Just say that Doctor Yun delivered the baby for Juhua. Otherwise, if Juhua gives birth without even using a midwife, it’ll be too hard to explain. Also, don’t just go telling everyone. We need to prevent people who don’t understand from making wild guesses and spreading rumors. That would ruin Doctor Qin’s and the others’ reputations, and it wouldn’t be good for Juhua or the baby.”

Zheng Changhe and Zhang Dashuan nodded again and again. They understood the gravity of the situation. If even they were so panicked and frightened by the news, what would outsiders think?

Suddenly, they heard Huai Zi shout anxiously from outside, ”The baby’s born! The baby’s born! Qingmu—”

His shout was followed by the cry of a baby, sharp and clear. It instantly swept away all their anxiety and fear, replacing it with overwhelming excitement. The men all rushed outside at once, nearly breaking the doorframe as they squeezed through.

An even bigger surprise awaited them outside: The Yang Family and He had already rushed over, and each was holding a bundle in her arms—Juhua had given birth to twins.

Zhang Dashuan grabbed Zheng Changhe’s arm, shaking it forcefully as he yelled, ”Twins! Changhe, Juhua had twins! HAHAHA...”

Before he could finish laughing, Qingmu clapped a hand over his mouth and said urgently, ”Uncle Zhang, keep it down! Juhua is still in there, and Doctor Qin and the others are still busy...”

Zhang Dashuan hastily fell silent. He remembered that he still didn’t know how Juhua was doing. The babies had been taken out by cutting open her belly... ’Cutting open her belly!’ He was no longer in the mood to laugh and looked nervously toward Zhang Huai.

Huai Zi didn’t turn around at all. He had only glanced at the babies when Yunlan brought them out, letting the Yang Family and He, who had arrived after her, take them. He was happy that Juhua had twins, but he was more alarmed—Doctor Qin hadn’t told him about this. He seemed oblivious to his surroundings, his lips pressed tightly together as he stared at the door, his fists clenched tight.

He shot Zhang Dashuan a fierce glare and said, ”Let’s all get out of here. Don’t crowd this spot—Yunlan said we can’t be noisy here; it will affect Doctor Qin and Doctor Yun. The babies need to be taken to Aunt Liu to be fed, they can’t stay outside for long.”

The Yang Family looked down at the swaddled baby in her arms, choking back tears as she said, ”That’s right. We’re not clean. We need to wash our hair, bathe, and change our clothes. We can go see Juhua after Doctor Qin and Doctor Yun come out.” Aunt Liu had already told them what precautions to take.

Zheng Changhe moved closer to her, his expression complicated as he gazed at the tiny infant, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

So the group left quietly. Qingmu walked up to Huai Zi and asked softly, ”Yunlan brought the babies out. Did she say anything?”

Huai Zi shook his head. ”She wasn’t right there with them—there was a curtain in the way. She just told us not to worry. You should go to our parents and tell them not to panic. Also, get some food and drinks ready for Doctor Qin and Doctor Yun. They’ve been at this for a long time and will definitely be exhausted when they come out.”

Qingmu nodded and patted his shoulder, as if comforting both Huai Zi and himself. ”Don’t worry,” he said. ”Juhua will be fine.”

Huai Zi nodded, his face tense. ”I know. I’m not worried!” Qingmu then turned and left, leaving him alone to face the door and begin his long wait.

In the west room, the newly minted grandparents unwrapped the bundles to check on the babies. It was a boy and a girl—fraternal twins.

Everyone was both overjoyed and worried. They were so happy they wanted to jump for joy, yet their concern for Juhua left their faces etched with worry. They had no choice but to suppress their excitement and quietly wait for Doctor Qin and Yun Ying to emerge.

The Yang Family and He took the infants into Aunt Liu’s room. It wasn’t proper for the men to follow, so they could only pace back and forth in the courtyard, anxious and restless.
