Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

[Another Legendary Pokémon!?]

[According to the legends, this is the World-Origin Tree, which has existed since the birth of the world. It makes sense that it would be connected to all kinds of Legendary Pokémon.]

[So, according to Teacher Mo, the true master of the World-Origin Tree is this Pokémon called Mew, right? The name sounds pretty nice, too. Much easier to understand than something like Regigigas.]

[Wait, weren’t we talking about Ho-Oh transforming into Regirock just now? How did we suddenly get to this Pokémon called Mew? What does it have to do with them?]

Faced with the viewers’ confusion, Chen Mo smiled slightly.

”Of course there’s a connection.”

”In the original world of Pokémon, the place where the World-Origin Tree stands is regarded by many human scholars as the birthplace of life.”

”Why is that?”

”One reason is that the World-Origin Tree itself is a living mountain of rock. It has existed since the birth of the world and nourishes all living things, so it certainly qualifies as a birthplace of life.”

”The second reason is Mew, which has a symbiotic relationship with the World-Origin Tree.”

”According to analyses conducted by researchers on fossilized samples of Mew’s fur, Mew’s genetic makeup contains the genetic information of all Pokémon that existed at the time.”

”Furthermore, although Mew is a Psychic-type Pokémon, it can use moves of every type.”

”For these reasons, Mew is extremely famous in the academic community, with countless scholars considering it the ancestor of Pokémon.”

The moment Chen Mo finished speaking, even Zhou Yichuan, who had been sitting in front of the screen trying his best to keep calm, could no longer remain composed.

The comments in the livestream came wave after wave, densely filling the entire screen.

[The ancestor of Pokémon!? Holy crap! Does that mean Mew is the god who created all Pokémon!? Holy crap, holy crap! That’s even more incredible than Regigigas!]

[Wait, I’m a little confused. So Mew is the ancestor of Pokémon, but what does that have to do with the murals Teacher Mo is showing us?]

[A lot of you still haven’t figured it out? Teacher Mo’s meaning is already obvious! Whether it’s Ho-Oh or Regirock, they were actually both transformations of Mew! After all, Mew possesses the genetic information of all Pokémon, so being able to transform isn’t that strange, right?]

[Normal my ass! According to the mural, Mew can transform not only into a Legendary Pokémon like Ho-Oh, but also into Regirock, a Pokémon that hadn’t even existed until the Lord of the Colossi had just sculpted it! How is that not absurd!?]

[Maybe it’s only an imitation…]

[Mew and the World Tree are one. Regirock was created from the World Tree, so it makes sense that Mew could transform into Regirock. But transforming into Ho-Oh… Honestly, that’s terrifying. If Mew’s transformed Ho-Oh actually possesses Ho-Oh’s abilities, wouldn’t that mean Mew is the ancestor of all Legendary Pokémon!?]

”Looks like everyone has figured it out.”

”Unless something unexpected happened, both Ho-Oh and Regirock were transformations of Mew.”

”As for whether the Ho-Oh and Regirock transformed by Mew were merely superficial imitations…”

Chen Mo looked at the mural before him, recalling what he knew from his previous life, and spoke softly.

”My personal inclination is that the Legendary Pokémon Mew transforms into aren’t merely superficial imitations.”

”But everyone also knows that the mythology and history of the Pokémon world actually exist side by side. Although the truth of history was incorporated into the various legends passed down by word of mouth long ago, there can sometimes be deviations.”

”What we can determine right now is that Mew is indeed a Legendary Pokémon that has existed since the birth of the world.”

”But as for whether it is the ancestor of all Legendary Pokémon, I personally don’t agree with that.”

In his previous life, Chen Mo had seen countless people arguing endlessly over Mew.

However, after the latest Pokémon game released before he transmigrated—Pokémon Legends: Arceus—the debate surrounding Mew and Arceus had at least temporarily quieted down.

So when Chen Mo said that Mew wasn’t the ancestor of all Legendary Pokémon, he was fairly confident.

After all, Arceus was also a Legendary Pokémon.

No matter how incredible Mew was, it couldn’t possibly be the ancestor of Arceus, could it?

At this moment, although the viewers didn’t know about all the thoughts running through Chen Mo’s mind, the mere fact that Mew could transform into Legendary Pokémon—and apparently wasn’t merely producing superficial imitations—was enough to instantly attract a huge number of self-proclaimed ”ten-year Mew fans.”

Seeing the barrage of comments urging him to hurry onward and see whether they could find a mural depicting Mew’s true form on a higher level, Chen Mo shook his head and continued upward.

As expected.

On the fourth level.

Chen Mo and everyone watching the livestream finally saw Mew’s true appearance on the murals.

It was a Pokémon resembling a small pink cat, with a long tail twice the length of its body and large blue, triangular eyes.

At this moment, Mew was sitting on top of Regirock’s head, half-closing its eyes and covering its mouth with one little hand.

It was clearly trying to suppress a laugh.

Chen Mo felt that when Mew had first transformed into Ho-Oh and flown out from the World-Origin Tree, it had clearly been somewhat angry.

After all, Mew had a symbiotic relationship with the World-Origin Tree. Every time Regigigas broke off a piece of rock from the World-Origin Tree, it would undoubtedly have some effect on Mew.

However, after Mew saw Regigigas desperately trying to explain itself and sensed the giant Pokémon’s pure heart, most of its anger had probably already dissipated.

This could also be seen from the murals that followed.

After learning Regigigas’s original intentions, Mew used its own authority as the World-Origin Tree’s symbiotic partner to actively take more rocks from the World-Origin Tree and give them to Regigigas.

The number of Regirock gradually increased.

At the same time, Regigigas and Mew gradually became closer.

It was clear that Regigigas had remained at the World-Origin Tree for a very long time.

When it was finally time to leave, it left one of the Regirock behind to stay at the World-Origin Tree.

After another long passage of time—

Regigigas returned and brought Mew a Regice and a Registeel.

And thus—

In Chen Mo’s memory, the three Legendary Titans who guarded the World-Origin Tree were born.

Countless viewers looked at the three giants standing before the World-Origin Tree in the mural, and at Mew gazing toward Regigigas as it departed once again.

Their hearts were filled with emotion.

[This is practically a divine friendship!]

[I always thought Legendary Pokémon were distant and untouchable, like flowers growing on unreachable mountaintops. But the story of Mew and Regigigas makes me realize that Legendary Pokémon aren’t cold and emotionless. They have a human side, too.]

[Why didn’t Regigigas stay at the World-Origin Tree and keep Mew company? Sigh… It’s a shame that it left just like that. If Regigigas had stayed, surely nothing would have happened to the World-Origin Tree, right?]

[Now that you mention it, something does seem strange. With the World-Origin Tree’s lineup, how could anything possibly have gone wrong? What happened here!?]

[Exactly. Mew’s strength is beyond question. Although it isn’t the ancestor of all Legendary Pokémon, it’s definitely on the same level as Regigigas, Ho-Oh, and Lugia. Add the three pillars Regigigas sent over, and I honestly can’t imagine what could possibly threaten the World-Origin Tree.]

[Damn you, Teacher Mo! Every time we reach something important, you cut the livestream! To this day, we still don’t know what Zoroark actually said to Teacher Mo that day.]

Because Chen Mo had never explicitly explained it, many viewers still didn’t know that the World-Origin Tree had gradually entered a state of death because it was deprived of its source of light.

However.

Speaking of the missing light source, Chen Mo already had some guesses.

An existence associated with light, one whose intention was to devour the world’s light—

There was probably only that one Legendary Pokémon whose status was essentially no lower than Mew’s.

Thinking of this, Chen Mo couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.

The Pokémon world really was plagued by disaster after disaster.

Chen Mo stared at the mural before him, his brows furrowing.

Actually, by this point, the mysteries surrounding the World-Origin Tree had more or less been solved.

But as the exploration continued, new questions gradually emerged.

One of them concerned the three Legendary Titans depicted in the murals as guardians of the World-Origin Tree.

Now that the relationship between Mew and Regigigas had been revealed, it had been established that the responsibility of guarding the World-Origin Tree had been assigned by Regigigas.

The three Legendary Titans and the World-Origin Tree were not part of the same system.

Therefore, even if something happened to the World-Origin Tree, the effect on the three Titans themselves should have been relatively minor.

And judging from their performance in the movie Pokémon: Mew and the Wave Hero, the three Titans had been extremely active in protecting the World-Origin Tree.

Yet Chen Mo had been inside the barrier for so long and hadn’t encountered even a single one of them.

Honestly.

That was rather strange.

Moreover, according to Marshadow’s investigations, there were no signs of any Legendary lifeforms moving around the area apart from the World-Origin Tree itself.

”Mew definitely encountered some kind of problem.”

”But what exactly happened to the three Titans that Regigigas left behind at the World-Origin Tree…?”

Carrying these doubts, Chen Mo chose to continue forward.

The higher they climbed, the narrower the spaces inside the World-Origin Tree became.

The next several levels also contained murals, but most of them depicted large-scale sacrificial ceremonies.

Clearly.

As humanity gradually rose, Mew and the ancient humans had gradually established some form of connection.

Chen Mo wasn’t particularly interested in this.

He simply had Gengar record everything with the camera before continuing toward the upper levels.

Time always seemed to pass quickly while climbing a mountain.

Chen Mo had planned to stop and rest after ascending one more level, intending to continue the next day.

But when he stepped into the new level together with the Pokémon, he immediately looked up and saw a huge blue crystal sitting in the center of the spacious area.

”That is…”

Chen Mo’s eyes widened slightly, his expression filled with shock.

Clearly.

This was an enormous Waveguide Crystal.

Since entering the secret realm, apart from the normal Waveguide Crystals emitting a brilliant blue light that Chen Mo had seen under the influence of the Time Flower, every other crystal he had encountered had been infected by the World-Origin Tree’s current condition and turned red.

Of course.

The main reason Chen Mo was shocked wasn’t simply because this normal Waveguide Crystal was so rare.

It was because, through the Waveguide Crystal, he could see a blue Pokémon inside.

Its eyes were closed, as though it had fallen into a deep sleep.

”Lu… Lucario Senior…”

Zoroark had clearly recognized it.

Memories from the past told it that the Lucario sealed inside the Waveguide Crystal was the senior it knew—the one who had taken care of it the most when it was young.

The livestream immediately filled with comments.

[Was Lucario swallowed by the World-Origin Tree’s defense mechanism?]

[What about that Waveguide Guardian named Aaron? If his best partner Lucario is here, shouldn’t he be nearby too? Why haven’t we seen him?]

[Sigh, the story is obvious. By the time Aaron brought Lucario through all those difficulties and finally reached this place, they had already reached their limits. Then, when the World-Origin Tree’s defense mechanism became too overwhelming, Lucario pushed Aaron away at the critical moment and chose to be swallowed by the World Tree alone.]

[Really? I don’t see any injuries on Lucario at all. Its expression is completely peaceful. It doesn’t look like it went through any kind of violent struggle…]

[Teacher Mo, what do you think?]

Chen Mo frowned slightly.

He didn’t answer immediately.

When the World-Origin Tree used its Waveguide Crystal defense system to swallow an intruder, it would directly bring that intruder deeper into its interior.

Chen Mo guessed that the intruder would most likely be absorbed by the World-Origin Tree as nutrients.

It shouldn’t be sealed in an external space like this.

However.

In the movie, after Aaron transferred his Waveguide to Mew, his body ultimately entered a crystalline state.

But even Aaron’s crystalline body had not been nearly as clear as the Lucario before them.

Chen Mo’s mind raced as he tried to understand the situation.

But he had clearly overlooked one thing.

After seeing its former senior and having countless memories from the past flooding back into its mind, Zoroark could no longer hold itself back.

Almost unconsciously, it began walking toward the crystal.

”Senior… Lucario Senior… Lord Aaron…”

”Pika, pika!”

Pikachu noticed what was happening and hurriedly tugged at Chen Mo.

But clearly—

It was already too late.

By the time Chen Mo came to his senses, Zoroark and Lucario’s crystal were already only a single step apart.

In an instant.

Using the Waveguide Scepter in his hand, Chen Mo sensed an unusual Waveguide energy flowing through the surroundings.

The crystal—

began turning red at a visible speed.

Chen Mo’s expression changed.

As he rushed toward Zoroark, he shouted:

”Get away from the crystal, Zoroark!!!”

The next second—

Crack!

The crystal shattered inch by inch!
