Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

“Mega Evolution?”

Song Qingyun froze.

Before anyone could think about it further, Chen Mo’s voice continued from the livestream.

“Mega Evolution, also known as Super Evolution or Million Evolution, is, as the name suggests, a form of evolution.”

“A long time ago, I explained to everyone that under normal circumstances, an ordinary Pokémon species can undergo at most two stages of evolution in its lifetime. Moreover, after evolving, it usually cannot return to its previous form.”

“But…”

“Mega Evolution breaks this conventional understanding. It surpasses the current limits of Pokémon evolution and represents an evolution to an even higher level!”

A miracle achieved through the deep bond between Pokémon and Trainer—

That was Mega Evolution!

In an instant.

Countless viewers in the livestream recalled a sentence Chen Mo had emphasized countless times before.

“Pokémon and Trainers are one. Together, they form a combination with infinite possibilities!”

Ah Hui unconsciously clenched his fists.

He looked at Butterfree resting on his shoulder.

At that moment, Butterfree was looking back at him as well.

A thought suddenly sprang into his mind.

Evolution was a leap in the level of life and brought about a tremendous increase in strength.

If… if Butterfree, which had already completed two stages of evolution, could evolve one more time, then…

Ah Hui imagined that scene, and his entire body began trembling with excitement.

The other Trainers in the lounge were no different.

Even though many of their Pokémon had yet to reach their final evolutionary forms, they couldn’t suppress the excitement surging within their hearts.

Just then.

Chen Mo’s voice rang out again.

“The deep bond between a Pokémon and its Trainer is a prerequisite for completing Mega Evolution and allowing a Pokémon to become stronger after Mega Evolution.”

“But under normal circumstances, completing Mega Evolution requires more than just a deep bond between the two sides. You also need two special items known as a Key Stone and a Mega Stone.”

As he spoke, Chen Mo lowered his backpack and quickly rummaged through it, pulling out a mysterious-looking stone with purple and red patterns inside.

Just looking at it gave off an extraordinary feeling.

Chen Mo said softly.

“This is Gengar’s Mega Stone.”

As soon as he said this, Gengar, who was carrying the camera, cast an extremely eager glance at the Mega Stone in Chen Mo’s hand before letting out its familiar:

“Kehehehe…”

A long time had passed since their first attempt at Mega Evolution.

During that period, Chen Mo had followed the professional training methods Brother Yi had given him and trained every day.

Combined with the effects the increasingly altered world was having on the human body, Chen Mo could now successfully complete Mega Evolution together with Gengar.

Although it could only last for less than a minute…

That sensation of explosive power, the feeling of being almost omnipotent, was enough to make Gengar feel unbelievably exhilarated.

The entire livestream was filled with discussion.

[So you actually need items to complete Mega Evolution? Then we’re screwed.]

[Exactly. I don’t even dare imagine what astronomical price these Mega Stones would sell for once they hit the market.]

[As expected, the most promising career in the future is still going to be gold mining. Mega Stones and ordinary Evolution Stones should both be buried in rock formations, right?]

[Teacher Mo said this is Gengar’s Mega Stone? Does that mean different Pokémon have different Mega Stones?]

[Hmph, isn’t it just money? I’m not short on cash. Once my Sentret evolves into Furret, if a Furret Mega Stone appears on the market, I’ll definitely get one for it!]

Needless to say.

With both a deep bond and potentially outrageously expensive items required, countless viewers in the livestream had already begun to lament their fate.

But the blows weren’t over yet.

After briefly introducing Mega Stones and Key Stones and putting the items away again, Chen Mo calmly continued.

“There is one thing everyone may have misunderstood.”

“Not every Pokémon has a Mega Stone.”

Anping City Pokémon Battle Center.

The Trainers who had been cheering moments earlier instantly fell silent.

“What does Teacher Mo mean by that…?”

“Obviously. He’s saying that only certain Pokémon can undergo Mega Evolution.”

The Trainers participating in the Extreme Challenge Summer Camp were all officially supported Trainers.

Some resources might cost astronomical sums on the open market and be completely unattainable to ordinary people, but for them, as long as they were willing to work hard, obtaining them wasn’t necessarily impossible.

As for the bond between Trainer and Pokémon?

Anyone who had made it this far had at least reached the level where they could entrust their backs completely to their Pokémon.

They trusted each other.

But…

If the corresponding Mega Stone didn’t exist in the first place, then Mega Evolution was impossible.

Their bond would have nowhere to be put to use.

“This condition is way too harsh!”

Someone couldn’t help but sigh.

Soon, countless viewers in the livestream began asking Chen Mo which Pokémon could Mega Evolve and which couldn’t.

Chen Mo answered a few questions before quickly deciding to end the topic.

“Although the number of Pokémon currently known to be capable of Mega Evolution is limited, don’t think that means bonds are useless.”

“Again, as long as a Pokémon and its Trainer are together, there are infinite possibilities.”

“Who knows? Perhaps you might accomplish a miracle with your Pokémon that rivals or even surpasses Mega Evolution.”

“Just look at Pidgeot. It didn’t Mega Evolve, yet it still defeated an Aerodactyl in its ancient form.”

“So when it comes to Pokémon and Trainers, there’s far more to it than simply Mega Evolution.”

After hearing Chen Mo’s words, many viewers fell into deep thought.

Qiao Cheng shook his head and smiled helplessly.

“As expected, Brother Mo taught us another lesson. Mega Evolution was never his main point from the beginning.”

“What he really wanted to emphasize was the bond between Trainers and Pokémon.”

“Yeah.”

Ah Hui nodded.

He looked at Butterfree resting on his shoulder.

Although he had inevitably felt disappointed upon learning that Butterfree currently couldn’t Mega Evolve, he thought about how he and Butterfree had overturned countless people’s perceptions of the Butterfree species step by step during the Pikachu Cup.

Had they relied on some vague and illusory Mega Evolution?

Obviously not.

They had relied on their bond.

Ah Hui looked at Butterfree.

The Trainer and Pokémon both smiled.

An embellishment was certainly wonderful.

But even without Mega Evolution, they could still continue walking forward together, no matter how difficult the road ahead became.

Seeing the direction of the livestream finally move toward what he had hoped for, Chen Mo smiled as well.

After thinking for a moment, he added another reminder.

“Since we’ve already brought up Mega Evolution, there are some things that should also be made clear.”

“In fact, I’ve repeatedly emphasized in previous livestreams that even as Trainers, you cannot neglect training your own bodies.”

“Many viewers didn’t take it seriously at the time.”

“But I’m telling you very clearly now: many methods that temporarily increase a Pokémon’s strength also place certain requirements on the Trainer themselves.”

“In other words, there is a burden.”

“If your physical constitution can’t keep up, then even if the opportunity to Mega Evolve is placed right in front of you, you won’t be able to withstand the pressure brought by Mega Evolution.”

“Believe me, that pressure is even greater than the blessing Meloetta bestowed upon Xiao You and the others during the Pikachu Cup.”

Because of Chen Mo’s reminder, the authorities had also been emphasizing the importance of physical training.

After the Meloetta incident, they had even publicly explained why three of the four semifinalists in the Pikachu Cup had collapsed after their battles.

However.

Just as Chen Mo had said, even now, many new Trainers still didn’t take this matter seriously.

After all, in their eyes, forget receiving a blessing from a Legendary Pokémon—even encountering one was already extraordinarily difficult.

So what difference would training their bodies make?

But Mega Evolution was different.

Although its requirements were extremely demanding, compared with Legendary Pokémon, it felt slightly more attainable.

At least now there was a clear goal they could work toward.

[Opportunities are reserved for those who are prepared. Teacher Mo, I understand now. Starting tomorrow, I’m going to train my body!]

[Becoming an outstanding Trainer really is so difficult…]

[It is difficult, but isn’t the feeling of growing and moving forward together with your Pokémon wonderful too?]

[Forget it, I don’t understand any of this. I don’t even have a Pokémon, so I’ve completely given up. What I’m more curious about is why Teacher Mo keeps wandering around here instead of going up?]

[Looking at Teacher Mo, it seems like he’s searching for something…]

“I really am looking for something.”

Chen Mo was just about to answer the livestream comments when a voice came from a distance.

“Master Chen Mo, is this the cut you were talking about?”

It was Sorolark.

Without another word, Chen Mo immediately hurried over.

Before him was a section of a massive tree trunk where a clean cut had exposed the growth rings.

He gently extended a finger.

The instant it touched the cut surface, streaks of red electricity shot out from the point of contact between Chen Mo and the tree.

Feeling a powerful repulsion, Chen Mo immediately withdrew his hand.

His expression was regretful.

“This is indeed the right cut, but the World-Origin Tree itself is rejecting me from entering.”

The livestream was instantly filled with question marks.

Seeing this, Chen Mo began explaining again.

“As a living organism, the World-Origin Tree naturally has internal systems for transporting nutrients throughout its body.”

“Under normal circumstances, we could enter through a cut like this and see countless green bubbles that serve the World-Origin Tree.”

“By riding these green bubbles, which are essentially like elevators, we can travel to various parts of the World-Origin Tree.”

In the movie Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, only Meowth, Pikachu, and Mew had been shown riding these green bubbles.

But Sorolark had heard Arion mention matters concerning the World-Origin Tree, so it also knew that these green bubbles could effectively be used by humans.

However.

The current World-Origin Tree clearly rejected all living beings.

It had even sealed off the external entrances to its internal supply system.

Chen Mo’s plan to use the green bubbles to reach the upper levels had fallen through.

[Teacher Mo, we don’t understand what the World-Origin Tree’s supply system is, but don’t you have Pidgeot? Even before evolving, it could easily carry you toward the higher levels, couldn’t it?]

Facing the viewers’ confusion, Chen Mo shook his head.

He looked at the towering World-Origin Tree and said softly:

“Although the World-Origin Tree is extremely tall, this distance really isn’t a problem for Pidgeot.”

“However, during Pidgeot’s battle with Aerodactyl just now, Pidgeot discovered that the entire World-Origin Tree is enveloped by a mysterious field.”

“The higher you fly, the greater the pressure becomes.”

“So having Pidgeot simply carry me directly to the highest point isn’t possible either.”

After thinking for a moment, Chen Mo decided on his next course of action.

Although they couldn’t fly directly to the highest level, Pidgeot was still capable of enduring the pressure exerted by the World-Origin Tree and flying upward for a certain distance.

Every bit of time they could save was worth saving.

Without further hesitation, Chen Mo temporarily returned several Pokémon to their Poké Balls.

Then, with Pikachu, Gengar, Jirachi, and Sorolark—who still didn’t have a Poké Ball—he climbed onto Pidgeot’s back.

With Pidgeot’s current size, carrying them all was no problem.

“Pidgeot!”

With a high-pitched cry, Pidgeot beat its wings and shot upward toward the World-Origin Tree.

Its speed was astonishing.

But before Chen Mo could properly enjoy the feeling of riding Pidgeot, the pressure from the World-Origin Tree began taking effect.

Pidgeot’s body started to sway slightly.

“Pidgeot, over there!”

“Pidgeot!”

After making a turn, Pidgeot followed Chen Mo’s directions and flew into an enormous cavern.

His vision briefly contracted before, under Pidgeot’s incredible speed, they quickly reached a spacious area deep within the rock formation.

Just then.

Using his Aura, Chen Mo sensed something.

He gently patted Pidgeot’s back.

Pidgeot immediately understood, slowing down until it gradually came to a stop.

“This is…”

At the same time.

After enduring a dizzying period of high-speed flight, the countless viewers in the livestream had only just recovered when they heard the shock in Chen Mo’s voice.

What had happened?

Curious viewers immediately perked up.

But Gengar, which had also just recovered from the high-speed flight, hurriedly remembered its current job.

It adjusted the camera.

The next second.

Countless viewers saw a gigantic mural on the smooth rock wall beside them.

It depicted an extraordinarily shocking scene.

A gigantic figure with no clearly visible head, its entire body disappearing into the clouds, stood alone upon a vast ocean.
