I'm Pretending to Cultivate in Kindergarten

Chapter 147: Chapter 133: 2 People Get Jealous

”Let me heat up some water first.”

After neatly folding Lin Zhengran’s discarded jacket and setting it aside, Xiao Heqing skillfully filled the kettle with cold water. Looking every bit the perfect housewife, she placed it on the small home water heater and pressed the heat button.

The cold water slowly began to warm, forming tiny bubbles.

Noticing that Lin Zhengran was helping to open the packaging of the self-heating hot pot, Xiao Heqing carefully took a seat beside him, pressing closely against his side.

”Let me do it. You can just rest. I can handle these little things,” she said in a soft, sweet voice.

”It’s just opening a package. I can do it while I’m at it,” he replied.

Seeing her cast hesitant glances at him—clearly wanting to ask something but not quite daring to—Lin Zhengran asked, ”Thinking about what happened with Lili earlier?”

Xiao Heqing’s hands slowed their movements as she gave a slight nod. ”Mm, did... did the two of you just get back from a date? I remember you saying before that the competition ended on the fifth or sixth. Today is already the seventh, so you must have gone on a date. Oh, right, I asked Wenwen yesterday, and it seems Lili made it onto some leaderboard. It sounded really impressive.”

She tried her best to pretend she wasn’t jealous.

”Yeah, to celebrate her making it into the top fifty, I went with her to see a movie in the city.”

”A movie...” Xiao Heqing pursed her lips, finally unable to hold back. She realized that she had never watched a movie with Lin Zhengran.

Just then, Lin Zhengran spoke up. ”Speaking of which, we haven’t seen a movie together either, have we? We can go watch one on our next date. Do you want to go?”

Xiao Heqing turned her head to look at him. The kettle had already started to make noise, emitting faint GURGLE GURGLE sounds as it bubbled.

”I do...”

He reached out and patted her head. ”Then we’ll go next time.”

Feeling the warmth and solidness of his large hand, Xiao Heqing suddenly grabbed the fabric of his sleeve with her pale little hands. Grievously, she leaned her forehead against his shoulder. ”So... are you and Lili a couple now too? How far... how far have you two gone?”

Lin Zhengran looked at her. ”We just held hands for the first time today.”

Trembling slightly, Xiao Heqing raised her head to peek at him. ”Didn’t you kiss too? She kissed your neck, right? Was this your first time kissing, or have you kissed many times before?”

Lin Zhengran cupped her cheek. ”Are you really that jealous? Today was the first time. Besides, wasn’t her surprise attack exactly like what you did at school back then?”

”The first time...”

Xiao Heqing knew Lin Zhengran wouldn’t lie to her. Knowing it was their first time made her feel instantly much better. Otherwise, if they had kissed many times, she really would have burst into tears.

She lowered her head, her fingers aimlessly tugging at his shirt like a little girl who hadn’t grown up.

”If it’s the first time, then it’s okay. Actually, I guessed a long time ago that you’d end up getting together with both me and Lili. After all, the three of us have known each other for so long, and you two are childhood friends. Plus, I can tell that you really care about Lili and truly like her. I can actually accept it...”

She smiled slowly, her voice soft and measured. ”After all, I’m just a dummy. When we were little, I did whatever you said. I didn’t have much brains in my head; I only knew to listen to you. Even though I thought about stopping you when you first started playing the field, not wanting you to like other girls...

”But then I realized that if I couldn’t stop you, what could I do? It felt like my only choice was to accept it. I figured that Lili is a good person, and she really likes you too, so I could just be sisters with her.”

She repeated, ”I really did think I could accept it. But seeing her kiss you just now... I don’t know why, but it still hurts so much. My heart feels so empty and uncomfortable. Can you...”

She whispered a plea, ”Can you coax me a little? Lin Zhengran, if you just comfort me, we can let this pass, okay? If you coax me, I’ll be happy—even just one sentence is enough. Because I can never bring myself to be angry with you. Please.”

Lin Zhengran looked at her timid expression; she looked as if she thought he was going to abandon her.

He opened his arms. After a brief look of being overwhelmed by the gesture, Xiao Heqing quickly wrapped both hands around his neck, half-kneeling as she embraced him.

Lin Zhengran’s original intention had been to let her rest against his chest, but Xiao Heqing clearly had never hugged a boy before. Subconsciously, she mimicked what she had seen on TV, throwing her arms around his neck, which pulled their bodies even closer together.

Only after they embraced did a smile finally appear on her face. ”You’re so warm... We’ve known each other for so long, but this is the first time you’ve ever hugged me.”

Lin Zhengran turned his head slightly to look at her. ”You smell much more fragrant than usual. Did you take a shower before you came?”

Xiao Heqing blushed, suddenly recalling what Wenwen had mentioned before about natural body scent. Rumor had it that when people who liked each other were together, they could smell each other’s unique scent.

She nodded. ”I did take a shower, since school is starting. Oh, right, Lin Zhengran, I suddenly want to ask you something. It’s not about Lili, it’s something else.

”Can you smell that special scent on me? The books say that boys and girls who are genetically attracted to each other can smell each other’s unique scent. I can smell yours... What about you? Can you smell mine?”

Lin Zhengran paused for barely a second.

Xiao Heqing immediately thought he couldn’t smell it. Her eyes darted around anxiously. ”You didn’t smell it? Can you only smell my shampoo or body wash? That’s impossible! Then let me get a little closer. Smell carefully.”

She tried her best to press her chest closer to his face.

However, He Qing was different from the other two little girls. This silly girl was far too well-endowed up top.
